LEVERKUSEN, Germany -- Bayer Leverkusen advanced to the Champions League final on Tuesday as it played to a 1-1 tie against Manchester United at BayArena.

Bayer Leverkusen advanced to the final based on the away goals rule on a 3-3 aggregate score.
Leverkusen, which also is gunning for its first Bundesliga title heading into the last round of the German League on Saturday, will meet either Spanish giants Real Madrid or Barcelona in the final at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland on May 12.
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson will not get his wish to lead his team in the city he was born, Glasgow.
Manchester United got on board first after 28 minutes when Roy Keane took full advantage of fall by defender Boris Zivkovic. He gathered the ball to the left of goalkepper Hans-Joerg Butt and put a shot from a tough angle by sliding defender Carsten Ramelow.
Untited continued to press in the first half, but Leverkusen limited its scoring opportunities.
Leverkusen pulled even in the second minute of added time at the end of the opening half.
Going against the flow, Turkish midfielder Yildiray Basturk -- perhaps Leverkusen's best player on the day -- set up Neuville with a perfect pass at the edge of the area. Neuville turned toward net and directed high shot past French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez off the inside crossbar.
Earlier in the 13th minute, Bernd Schneider's shot from outside the box beat Barthez but hit the right post.
Minutes later, United had its first chance, but Ronny Johnsen's powerful header off a set piece was booted off the line by Brazilian Ze Roberto. Johnsen was at the end of another dangerous header late in the half, blocked aside by goalkeeper Butt.
Neville also wasted a good scoring opportunity eight minutes in the second half. He escaped and raced alone in the box, but elected to make a pass to Argentine defender Rodolfo Placente, rather shooting.
Needing a victory to reach the final, United pressed in the final 10 minuts of regulation, but was unable to penetrate a tough German defense.
The closest United came to a goal was in the 88th minute when Uruguayan substitute Diego Forlan lobbed the ball on net after an uninspired attempt to clear by Butt. But Placente headed the ball away from the goal line.
Irish international Roy Keane also had a long range kick three minutes earlier saved by Butt with the tips of his fingers.
United, which has scored at least a goal in its last 10 away Champions League matches, threw everything forward in the four minutes of added injury time. Even Barthez joined the attack in desperation.
Ze Roberto will not play in the final due to a yellow card he accumulated for dissent to the referee.
Leverkusen awaits Wednesday's second leg decision between Real and Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Real takes a 2-0 advantage into the match gained at Nou Camp last week.
