This is the major reason why I was not concern about Shelton. We all know he can produce the goods when in Jamaican uniform. September 7 cannot come fast enough. We need to blind them with speed and keep them on them back foot constantly. 4-3-3 is very good option. The 5-2-3 is ok too. Mattocks gave El Salvadorians fits last night judging by numerous reports. A little nerve cause them two clear chances to miss the target! Next match the USA won't be so lucky for him to miss chances he will get. USA just don't have the manpower to match the speed along with our improve forwards' finishing.
The crucial decision for Tappa to make is who will he start up top. Mattocks is dangerous but he also has a serious issue with yellow cards for a forward. Mattocks will need to get at least 30 minutes of action versus the USA to get their backline deep.

Even from the little bit of game we've seen from the clips...it has to be Ryan Johnson...and any other that Tappa choose to go with...most likely Shelton.
Even in missing chances Johnson's influence on this game was MASSIVE...he set up the two goals for Shelton and sounded like he was a constant threat throughout the game with his work-rate and total involvement.
We all know that he can and will score goals for Jamaica...this man is Jamaica's best player right now, hands down.
Reggae Boy discovers scoring touch in 2-0 win over El Salvador
WASHINGTON, DC, United States:
A somewhat risky plan by Jamaica's head coach Theodore Whitmore to tinker with Jamaica's playing system in preparation for crucial World Cup qualifiers (WCQ) against the United States next month paid dividends last night when the Reggae Boyz beat El Salvador 2-0 in a friendly football international at the RFK Stadium here.
According to Whitmore, the decision to switch from the 4-4-2 formation, which earned Jamaica four points from two WCQ in June, a win against Guatemala and a draw with Antigua and Barbuda, was all part of the gearing up for the Americans.
With the exception of occasional confusion over marking assignments, especially in defence, the grand experiment paid off in the end as Jamaica met several objectives, including creating and scoring goals, plus introducing several players who were not part of the recent WCQ. Overall, Whitmore was pleased.
"I wouldn't say it was 100 per cent," he said, "but I was pretty much satisfied with the game."
I think the team did well (last night) in areas," he added. "It's good to see us getting goals and keeping a clean sheet ...
Whitmore said he especially wants to beat the US as Jamaica celebrate 50 years of Independence.
"We have never beaten the USA," he said adamantly. "We are preparing ourselves to beat this USA team."
Now fe 'guys, or warra-it-football-nots' (and others) like: the Rics, "IhavenoclueaboutFootball" and "Markoutknowledgeoffootball" Are you guys disappointed that the team won and the Coach performed. If it was a forin white guy I guess no knowledge brains would be saying Brilliant, Genius, instead your silence is deafening and rightly so I hope you guys keep it up.

You ever hear the warning about 'counting your chickens before them hatch ?'
Praise Tappa and the team AFTER they've beaten the USA in 3 weeks time...or else these comments of yours will have you looking very silly.
You fi go read some of the other, more sensible comments that have been made about this...and the upcoming match with the USA...and none of them sound like this.
Personally, I like the 4-3-3 against the US. It's transforms to the 5-2-3 or 5-3-2 on defence but quickly transitions to a 4-3-3 on offence. Having three strikers with speed, pressing their backline and making near and far post runs will keep the US from just compacting their defence in front of their goal and prevent them from applying constant pressure on the ball in their third of the field. Key for stopping them is how well we transition to defence and how well we defend the spaces on the flanks.
Miller just looks sharper than Ricketts to me right now. He has good relexes, quicker off his line and just the quicker thinker.... I wouldn't be surprised if he starts in goal on Sept 7th.
I started loosing faith in Ricketts before he even left LA. When he got it was partly that the other keeper was doing well, cost mush less money and part Ricketts poor play.

Mi like dis analysis of the different permutations of the formation; I've always preferred the 4-3-3 if you have the players to make it work at the highest level.
Jamaica has the flank players to fit into any formation used...the flanks and striker positions are where Jamaica is definitely the strongest.
The key to the transition to defense is how quick those attacking flank players recover on defense when Jamaica turns over the ball...and the distribution and work rate of the central midfielders.
With Ryan Johnson in the side, Jamaica no hafi worry bout the one forward checking back, tracking back and working to regain possession when Jamaica loses the ball...that's why he's the first name on the teamsheet every time.
The only questions that I have is...who will play left-back against the USA ?
Playing Demar Phillips is a total waste of one of Jamaica's very best attacking players and didn't work well the last time...
I would like to see a proper left-back playing this position.
I understand you feeling like we are wasting Phillips' attacking skills by putting him in the left back position but I dont agree that it hasn't worked. I actually thought he played well in that position in the qualifiers I watched. He played so well that I actually want Arsenal to sign him and make him our left back because he looks class in that position imo. We dont have many left back options and we have left wing options so I think Tappa made a good decision in putting Phillips there but its just my opinion.
Ric, I fully agree about counting chicken before them hatch fully. I like the fact that people are feeling so positive and the team deserve praise but beating El Salvador is nothing like beating USA, 2 teams at completely different levels so we all need to keep that in mind.
Morefire I havent seen much of Miller but I have seen alot of Ricketts and he's been making costly mistake after mistake at his club and I have lost trust and confidence in him.
Unless I see a creative player introduced to the set up or see some of the old guard returning, I will watch the game, support and believe we can win but this El Salvador game and the 2 before are not enough to fill me with confidence in Tappa, I hope he gets it right because we can beat them if he does but everyone needs to calm down and get back to reality. Be positive but stay objective.
I fully agree BALLAPROF, we are facing a strong USA team with alot of quality so it makes no sense preparing against weak teams. The friendly dates should have been used to play against quality teams so we could see exactly where we are, test the players ability to handle games against quality opposition and then chose the ones that pass the tests.
A game against El Salvador and then 1 against Kenya achieves nothing really other than boost confidence if we win. Confidence is very important in football but making sure the players you are selcting can handle the job youre giving them and testing the teams defensive organisation and attacking play against teams that will stretch and test us is far more important.
Some people are believing we have suddenly elavated to new heights when any sensible person will realise that we are going into the USA fixtures not knowing what to expect from our team. If we played friendlies against the teams you said Ballaprof and did well then I could understand the expectation levels going up but when we've only played Guatemala, Antigua and El Salvador, to expect us to beat USA on the basis of our performances in those games is foolish.
We were s**t against Antigua anyway, we played quite well against Guatemala and no one saw the El Salvador game so why the sudden high expectation. I'm always as positive as I can be but I see no basis for people ranting and raving about the fact we are gonna beat this USA team. Be positive, ofcourse we know we can win but be objective at the same time
Mi a prepare to work this football season at the three main football clubs in the West Midlands and Staffordshire area of England...Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Stoke City... Inna these clubs, except for Fuller leaving Stoke...the fact that some of these clubs players, particularly Marlon King...plays or supposed to play internationally for Jamaica does not even get a press mention...
Memba I am a professional working with these players at Birmingham, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Stoke City. I see and talk with them at half time. My proper title is ‘Football Hydrologist’.
Now I understand wa a gwaan. My apologies Re 'Inspektah Klusoso' ik, I neva realize sey the waterboy chore was upgraded to a bonafide profession; suo next time ah hav a water question 'bottled or piped' I will forward it your way.
