During last years CONCACAF U17 world cup qualifications in Jamaica, the Haitian U17 team was removed from the tournament by the organizers because several members had malaria. This created an outrage in Haiti and a sort of bad blood developed between the two countries on a diplomatic level. Well it is time to heal the wounds.
TheReggaeBoyz.com have obtained reliable information that a goodwill game is in the works between the two teams as part of the Sports for Peace and Development project.
The event Benefit Soccer Match will bring together the two national soccer teams (under 17) representing Jamaica and Haiti. The reason behind Jamaica’s participation is also to recognize its 50th Anniversary of Independence. Likewise, the cause of Haiti’s inclusion is to heal its wounds inflicted by the recent devastating earthquakes.
In order to raise awareness globally and have a large turnout of guests, the event will also consist of a soccer game between celebrities teams consisted of former soccer players, artists, entertainers and other sportsmen, along with a live concert.
The Proposed date is SUNDAY, 2 September 2012
So far Both Teams have confirmed
The venue will be the Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale and has been reserved
Although it is too early to confirm the players for the celebrity game, some of the names on the list they plan to approach include John Barnes, Sol Campbell, Ian Wright, Dwight York, Nono Baptiste, Wyclef Jean, Papa Mitchie, Beenie Man among others.
The Proposal is now awaiting final approval from the Government of Jamaica as it is already in their hands
WE will keep you informed as we get further update of this yet to break soccer news
Organisers of the CONCACAF U-17 tournament last year was correct in sending home the Haitian team. It's call public safety took precedence over a football team. When 30 % of a nation football team contacted a deadly and contagious disease people safety come first. Jamaican officials got the backing of CONCACAF in their decision. There was no need to wait until 50% or 100% infection occur before them send them home. Will the guys from Phoenix Academy be call for this friendly?
Although I agree with you that safety comes first before a soccer game....but I bet you had it been a big country like the US or Canada or even Mexico in Jamaica, there would have been some compromising done to keep the team there by coming up with their experts or doctors to make a case why their teams posed no threat to any one and why they should remained in the tournament..
I guarantee that no one in Jamaica would have picked up a US national team and shipped them back home like they did to Haiti...too much much respect for the US

@Truehaitian, really? Is that what you think of us as human beings? Health trumps politics..regardless of country is involved! Jamaica blind sometimes but dem nuh fool! US would have pulled their people from the competition without someone saying anything...so the right thing was done in this case!

Jamaica as poor country has helped or assisted Haitians in their time of need more than the more prosperous caribbean countries like Trinidad or Barbados.
I think if Jamaicans were prejudice against Haitians then then our Nurses, Doctors, Health care workers and Soldiers would not have gone their after the earthquake to assist in relief. Some Jamaican Doctors perform surgery to save lives. Some Haitian students were allowed to finish their college degrees at the UWI in Jamaica. Jamaicans also sent Food and clothing, but the rest of the world did not see what a little Jamaica was doing to help their neighbor. because CNN only showed coverage of what the American relief workers were doing.
Jamaica's connection to Haiti goes back to days of Slavery and the Maroons. My understanding from a article that i read in the Jamaica observer is that there maybe close to 100,000 haitians with jamaican roots in Haiti and a few thousand Haitians or Haitian roots living in Jamaica.

You are so correct. This is why a benefit game between both nations makes sense. I hope it is well supported and we can move on to better things.
