Miller signs for Vancouver
Experienced Cardiff striker makes Major League Soccer switch

Kenny Miller: Has left Cardiff to join MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps
The 32-year-old striker becomes a 'designated player' with the Canadian franchise after signing an undisclosed contract, subject to international clearance.
Miller scored 11 goals for Cardiff in the Championship last season but missed from the penalty spot in the Carling Cup final shootout against Liverpool at Wembley.
The former Rangers and Celtic man revealed he has elected to make the move across the Atlantic for lifestyle - as well as professional - reasons.
"I'm delighted to be making this move to Major League Soccer and Vancouver Whitecaps FC," Miller told his new club's official website.
"I have heard many great things about the club and the city of Vancouver, and have been impressed by the standard of MLS.
"To have the chance to continue my career in North America with Whitecaps FC is a fantastic opportunity for me and my family."
Proven
As well as his time in Scotland, Miller also played in the Premier League with both Wolves and Derby and it is this experience that Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie hopes will be helpful to his side.
Rennie added: "We're delighted to bring an experienced striker like Kenny to our club.
"He has been a proven goalscorer with big clubs in Scotland and played in the England Premier League.
"His speed, energy, and work rate will be a valuable asset to our club as we look to have a strong second half of the season in MLS."

This is a great move by the coach since this will take pressure off Mattocks. Don't worry Mattocks will get his playing time; more than likely we'll see both in the set, in a 4-4-2 formation.
Its good that they're putting an experienced player to play alongside him upfront. Glad that he' also getting an experienced Jamaican player in Dane Richards to help him along...
The main thing Mattocks needs to understand right now is that he's going to be target of some hard tackles, more so now than before. It hard tackles started in whitecaps last game against Chicago. Hope him can keep him cool cause they're going to be trying to push his buttons fi get him out of the game.

Morefire1 you couldn't have said it better. Vancouver just got rid of two strikers. They have been playin one forward uptop but now they can play two. and Dane out of the midfield. Speed and experience. They can't double up on Mattocks. Teams will have to pick their poisons.

Mattocks given special attention
The Fire were well aware of Mattocks’ athleticism coming into the game, especially after the rookie’s amazing leaping goal in last Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Toronto.
Defenders were physical with the young Jamaican throughout the game, making contact with him every chance possible. Friedrich received both of his yellow cards for fouls against Mattocks.
“He’s shown how dangerous he can be when he gets in behind,” Berry said. “So I think we did a good job of keeping him in front of us except for a couple of plays.”
Friedrich saw the jumping ability, too. But he was quick to bring the rookie down to earth.
“Yeah he can jump high,” he said with a smile. “But we [can] too.”

This move can only benefit Mattocks and is not a threat to his emerging "featured striker" status. Rennie's moves over the past 6 weeks or so is testament to that. Benching Hassli and trading LeToux for Richards shows that the coach is building his offense around Mattocks' skillsets. Kenny Miller is more of a 2nd striker at this stage of his career and will provide valuable mentorship to Darren. Matrin Rennie is proving to be a savvy manager of player personnel in his first year in the big leagues. Lets see how it works out.

Toronto FC have acquired French forward Eric Hassli from the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and an international roster slot, the clubs announced Friday.
“Adding a player of Eric’s ability gives an immediate improvement to our club,” said Toronto FC head coach and director of soccer operations Paul Mariner in conference call. “He has had a lot of success in this league and we are pleased to bring him to Toronto.”
Hassli will join Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans as Designated Players on the Toronto roster.
The Frenchman, 31, joined the Whitecaps from Swiss outfit FC Zürich at the start of the 2011 season. He totaled 44 league appearances for expansion Vancouver, scoring 12 goals and adding five assists in league play, plus three goals from eight appearances in the Canadian Championship.
With the addition of Scottish DP forward Kenny Miller and the emergence of rookie Darren Mattocks, Hassli found himself increasingly relegated to the bench in Vancouver, though Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie admitted the decision to trade the player was not an easy one.
“Trading Eric has been a difficult decision and we really appreciate all that he has done for the club," he said in a statement. "With the emergence of our young strikers and recent additions, we felt that this is the right time to make this move. We wish Eric the best of luck in Toronto.”
Hassli's first opportunity to feature for his new club won't come on Saturday, as he's not available when the Reds face Liverpool FC in the World Football Challenge (4 pm ET, Fox Soccer). They return to MLS action the following weekend, hosting the Houston Dynamo on July 28. .
