After Jamaica led on Jason Wright's first-half penalty, Trinidad surged ahead before Romario Williams equalized for the "Young Boyz" in the 70th minute.

Jamaica had the better of play, outshooting Trinidad 16-7, and went ahead on Wright's penalty in the 42nd minute.

It was unclear if Mexican referee Ricardo Arellano whistled for a handball or another foul against Trinidad's Neil Benjamin, but the 16-year-old Wright converted easily, leaving goalkeeper Quesi Weston with no chance.

Trinidad, one of only two Caribbean teams to advance through qualifying undefeated, started the second half brightly and wasted a chance to equalize in the 49th minute when Jomal Williams' header flashed wide.

Eight minutes later, Trinidad tied the match when a free kick by Nicholas Marcano was fumbled by Jamaica goalkeeper Richard Trench into the path of Henry, who scored easily.

Henry put Trinidad ahead in the 64th minute, taking advantage of a lapse in the Jamaican defense.

Jamaica recovered and with 20 minutes remaining Williams unleashed an effort that Weston got a hand on, but could not prevent from entering the net to the delight of the partisan crowd of 4,400 at Catherine Hall Stadium.

How does one discredit and abandon what has never been done?

I will argue that JA has actually been doing the opposite. They have been sacrificing WC qualifications for friendlies, and mistimed stupid training camps which only serve to exhaust the players and waste the little resources which when wasted makes it harder to organize a proper campaign to fight for a WC spot.

JA wasted all this money to exhaust the yutes in Brazil, which will make it more difficult for them to qualify, while at the same time affecting the prospects of the other teams as the funds are not there for them to properly prepare for their tournaments. Ex: No games being played by the seniors on FIFA dates while the teams on par with them and above are all finding games to prepare themselves. Playing games might not guarantee success, but not playing while everyone else guarantees failure, unless you guys are relying on luck.

Relying on luck is no way to build a football programme and it definitely is no way to qualify for WCs.

Bwoy cyah even disagree, same thing the man dem do with the u20's inna Trinidad couple years ago...T&T have been playing together for over a year...Not brought together in 2 months then sent on an exhausting crash course, Burrell and co seriously losing the plot...

While the man dem on the soca warriors site saying we are serious about our football preparation they have actually been grooming they're team longer, if we did the same then topped things off with a more concise, well thought out tour we would have been garnering better results...

So wait Zilla no you did this u17 group was our best ever? Downswell say this group will revolutionalize football in ja. looking at the stats our problem was finishing 16 shots only 8 on target. the other prob was Goal keeping as the keeper spill a free kick and trini yute run pon it an score.

These youths got all the prep needed for a tournament like this and then some. Them get nuff pet and pampering the only thing them no get is a "NIPPLE BOTTLE", "PASSIFIER" and a "BIB". I would be surprised if they make that final 4. The ball is their Court now, they just gota make it happen.

Exhausted players always exhibit a lack of mental and physical football IQ. Unfortunately the fans always seems to support running the players into the ground just before tournaments and then turn around and curse them when they fail to perform. More is not always best.

You asked what CRica was doing to prepare for the tournament and I aswered that I hope they are home enjoying the holidays with their families. One because I wouldn't approve wasting scarce resources on no yute team and secondly, it wasn't even a wise investment. They shouldn't need Brazil to get through this tournament. Brazil would've made more sense once they made the WC. Right now I think Brazil has made their prospect more difficult, so let's not hear a chorus about wise investment if they do persevere and mek it. IMO they would've made it in spite of.

You forgot to mention that the games are a day delayed. Also as far as the tvj site goes the competition isn't included in the streaming schedule, although on the odd occasion programmes do fly under the radar...

The reggaeyutes will be ok as long as the man them allow them some rest, but with the 'last minute more is best' mentality they probably have them outside a train as we speak.

pelepapa,

I disagree that the players are exhausted, the starting XI have not played more than 45 minutes in any game since returning from Brazil. Anyway, they have three days rest before the next game on Saturday and they will get to scout Guatemala in advance. I guarantee in tomorrow's press Downswell will say he "did not know much about Trinidad", "we did not scout them....."

once again there are no easy matches for Jamaica!!!!

The Brazil trip in itself had to be exhausting considering the last minute nature of it and the less than ideal condition the players were subjected to. They went there supposedly for the advantage of being in a first class athletic environment compare to what they could get in JA and the first day all the players turn up injured. In this first class environment one would think they will take the time to assess the fitness of the players before overexerting them to the point where more harm than good is being done. Go to any half-ass gym and them man no stop measure you up fi see where your fitness level is.

Stating that there is no easy matches for JA might be factual, but you have to search for the reason why that is so.

I don't think WD would admit that after wasting, er, investing all that money training the team he did not know much about his opponent. Furthermore it is T & T, your archrival in the region....what is there to scout to that extent? It is T & T that should've been concern with not knowing what new trick JA picked up on their trip to the craddle of world football.

I think he is going to do what has become customary, throw the yute them under the bus.

Pelepapa,

I will agree fitness issues can be resolved in Jamaica, but the level of competition the Copa Sao Paulo Jr. Cup teams provided is invaluable to our overall preparation. So, it appears we resolved our fitness issues in Brazil because the Reggaeyutes were able to play a strong 90 minutes. Traveling to Brazil for a six week training camp for a bunch of 15/16 year old is reasonable especially with 12 days to recover. I think your bigger issue with the trip is $$$$$$, next time we will come down to CR for training. ;\)

Let us move onto the next game, we will need to beat Guatemala by at least 2 clear goals, IMO.

Jamatl,

JA is more than welcome to come down to CRica to train. We could use the money more than Brazil.

The yutes should be ok with some rest.

NEW YORK—The Haitian Football Federation told CONCACAF that it can no longer field a team at the confederation’s Under-17 championships in Montego Bay, Jamaica, because of an illness that has struck members of its squad.

The team said Tuesday night it will return to Haiti as soon as possible.

Haiti lost its tournament opener on Monday 3-1 to Costa Rica and was scheduled to face El Salvador on Wednesday. Because of Haiti’s withdrawal, El Salvador will be awarded a 3-0 win.

That match was to be the first of a doubleheader at Jarrett Park. The game between Panama and Cuba, originally scheduled for 4::30 p.m., has been moved to 4:00 p.m.

Does that 3-0 score put CRica in 2nd place in the group on goal difference going into the matchup with ES?

MONTEGO BAY -- CONCACAF announced Wednesday that it has changed the venue of Thursday matches at its Under-17 Championship in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from Catherine Hall Stadium to Jarrett Park.

The move impacts matches between Canada and Barbados, as well Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago. The games will be played at 12:00 pm and 4:30 pm, respectively.

Preserving the quality of the field for the remainder of the competition, starting on Saturday with the last group-stage games, was the reason for the switch. The quarterfinals, semifinals, third-place match and final, which will be televised internationally, are all scheduled to be played at Catherine Hall Stadium.
