Not business as usual for the Reggae Boyz JFF President Captain Horace Burrell. Rafe Wolfe is the only overseas based player invited to a 27-man football squad by Coach Theodore Whitmore as the Reggae Boyz continue their preparation for the three friendly games against Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica. Jason Johnson of Mile Gully gets his first call up to the senior team along with Orion Dennis of Catherine Hall, Devon Williams of Real Mona and Peter Harrison of Tivoli Gardens. However, Fabian McCarthy of Seba United had his invitation withdrawn after he failed to report to the camp. And, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) says it will be seeking FIFA's intervention after LA Galaxy refused to respond to their request to have goal keeper Donavon Ricketts available for the first game against Trinidad and Tobago on August 11. Meanwhile, as the JFF continues to pencil a way forward to Brazil 2014, President Captain Horace Burrell is warning players that it is not going to be business as usual. Burrell says he will ensure that only those who show the necessary commitment are called to don the national colours. “Every player who is going to be considered will have to demonstrate that they are willing to give a 100% commitment to Jamaica’s football development,” he said.

(1) So where is Richard McCullum, Duyane Kerr and Andre Blake? (2) Hmmmm, so if Tarzan Miller and Donavon Ricketts are injured during qualifying, we are going to throw in the towel? (3) IF you qualify for the World Cup you will need three goalkeepers........That is what you use these useless friendlies for!!! (4) The more things change the more they remain the same - On the road to Hubert Busby Jr Part III!!!!

See when man no need UK work permit caps to play the JFF is powerless. The LA Galaxy have a very heavy schedule right now and the senior national team needs to focus on developing another keeper besides Ricketts. Ricketts has been around long enough to not be fooled by the foolishness. He will be required across the USA and the Caribbean for these matches, the JFF does not have a gk coach for a player of his caliber and he most likely will not get paid for any of his time or traveling.
JFF move on.....call up another keeper Ryan Thompson or even Gariece McPherson or another u21 keeper.

Also, just in case the JFF did not notice. Ricketts has some big time matches to play in the next 2-3 weeks versus the following teams:
Puerto Rico Islanders Manchester United Red Bull New York Real Madrid

The JFF still does not understand that development of goalkeepers is just as important as finding players for other positions. Now is the time to look at all available goalie and leave Ricketts alone so he can focus on keeping a paycheck in his seniors years

Nothing more than a publicity stunt by the Captain.
Dont see the need to get the man embroiled in a club vs. country saga over a meaningless friendly.
I find Arena to be a reasonable person so its not like he is being pig-headed over the call up.

Burrell says he will ensure that only those who show the necessary commitment are called to don the national colours.
“Every player who is going to be considered will have to demonstrate that they are willing to give a 100% commitment to Jamaica’s football development,” he said. ----------------------------------
The Captain once again trying to grandiose the massive with foolish talk. Sometimes when the captain says committment, he actually means control both financially and professionally. Once, he learns that he needs to form a partnership with the clubs of the national team players, he will be much more success with national call ups.
Lef, Donovan Ricketts and LA Galaxy alone. Captain wheel up and come again, we no idiot any more.

Is August 11 a FIFA mandated international match date, btw ?
If it isn't, the LA Galaxy are well within their rights to refuse to release Ricketts for this match.
Horace Burrell must be really pandering to whatever segment of the Reggaeboyz fan base who don't understand how this system works.
Im must be looking 'props' for the next election by appearing to be the 'bully boy' who taking on the clubs on behalf of 'likkle underdog, Jamaica'; in reality, what he is doing is trying to throw his weight around as a senior member of FIFA's Disciplinary Committee by threatening the LA Galaxy.
Mi wonder if he thinks anyone in MLS or the USSF is afaid of Horace Burrell ?
All national teams who arrange matches on non-FIFA dates must make do with their alternatives when the first-choice players are refused release by their clubs; the player has no part in the decision.

Ric,
I think the match is on a FIFA match date. But I think Burrell is really trying "tess" the committment of Donovan Ricketts to the national program. But he going after the wrong balla. At 33 years old and a 10 year national team veteran, Ricketts has earned enough RESPECT to simply refuse call-ups for meaningless friendlies.
Burrell needs to look at his own house and first find a good goalkeeping coach, I strongly recommend a coach that has had exposure to the American training methods.

As you can see, mi neva sure bout the FIFA date ting but everything else you've said puts this all in proper perspective.
Ricketts has pretty much proven himself to be the best goalkeeper in MLS and if Burrell was not more concerned with his own power tripping, he would respect that Ricketts is more important to the Galaxy than he is to Jamaica, for this one match.
This is a perfect type of game against a perfect opponent to test the up-and-coming goalkeepers who are available to play the match.
This is the same problem that 'Sir Burrell' was accused of by the Scandanavian clubs last season when he tried to throw his weight around with them regarding the release of players.
Even if it is on a FIFA date, the club still has to release the player officially; the player cannot choose to play in a game without his club's permission, even if he wanted to.
When will Burrell learn that forging good relationships with the club managers and coaches will get him more than trying to bully them ?

JFF claimed that there will be "five overseas" players added to the squad for the Trinidad game. They should be looking at players who Tappa Whitmore need to see!!! People like Bibi, Fuller, Ricketts, Marshall etc have NOTHING TO PROVE to anyone.......these are meaningless friendlies.....FOR EVALUATION PURPOSES ONLY!!

Let Ricketts go - JFF boss will approach FIFA if MLS club fail to release national keeper
Donovan Ricketts
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and Major League Soccer (MLS) club LA Galaxy could be on a collision course following the club's reluctance to release national goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts ahead of the upcoming Trinidad and Tobago friendly.
The Reggae Boy shot stopper has enjoyed a fruitful spell since moving to the MLS and joining the LA Galaxy in 2008. However, despite a real purple patch of form, which has seen the keeper earn rave reviews in the American league, he has not appeared for the national team since July of last year at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
excuses, excuses
According to the federation, invitations for the keeper to link up with the squad have consistently been turned down by the MLS club for a variety of reasons. The keeper has missed the last six friendly internationals, a situation that has drawn the ire of local football's governing body.
"The LA Galaxy have been acting selfishly over the last two years, we are happy that Donovan has been doing well, but not releasing a player consistently to represent his country is unacceptable," Captain Horace Burrell head of the JFF told Star Sports.
"We have been extremely accommodating, we understand that under certain circumstances the player will be unavailable. We have repeatedly requested his presence and Bruce Arena (coach) and the LA Galaxy have consistently come up with a different excuse. This is no longer acceptable and we have advised them that we will be approaching FIFA as it relates to enforcing the regulations."
FIFA rules
Burrell
According to FIFA regulations, "A club holding the registration of a player called up to play in the national team must release him to the national association on the fixed/set dates (FIFA dates) for international matches in each calendar year."
The Jamaica vs Trinidad game, which is set for August 11, will fall on an official FIFA friendly international match date.
The club versus country controversy has long been a hotly debated issue in international football, with several clubs and national associations already having clashed over the issue. However, in the instance that a player fit for duty is not released for a national team, the club can be barred from using the player for two matches.
"We understand their interests, but we also have our own in preparing a national team. We have been cooperating for two years but we will no longer stand for it," Burrell said.
Jamaica's next friendly international is expected to be against Costa Rica on September 5, a match for which Ricketts is again expected to be called upon.

Lincoln,
Exactly on 1-on-1 with Ricketts and Tappa would be smart. I am pretty sure Ricketts would rather focus on playing Real Madrid in front of 75k thousand in the Rose Bowl as better preparation than play Trinidad in a meaningless friendly in front of 5k fans.
Let us not forget that the JFF does not usually pay match fees in a timely fashion and Mr. Ricketts was not gainfully employed for much of 2008.

JFF need to understand that Ricketts need to eat a food getting near to the end of his career so the power play isn't helping anybody. It also helps to expand the player pool and give needed experience to other players...the Argentina game shows we need some more practice between the posts so the more the merrier. This is not the time to limit our player pool or start a problem with one of our key players over Burrell's media talk about commitment. He may need to be committed himself if he doesn't stop his nonsense and politricking our football. But all the same I am surprised that after Arena's mouthing off a Jean Tigana when he managed Fulham. He attacked Tigana for the same reason calling him a "complete jerk" now he's doing the same thing as a club manager. So was Tigana not a jerk or has Arena become a jerk?

Mi nuh undastan how some ah de ites reason! Ricketts nuh play fi de national team in ova a year. Wah kind a continuity can Tappa have if his core players caan be in a few games before the ones that count? De match on a FIFA date suh de JFF should try and get some of their better players. What T&T and Yard fans don't count? They don't have a right to see the best of what a country has to offer!
Mi nah guh cuss Bruce Arena, he's doing what he's paid to do and the JFF suppose to do what they are there to do, i.e., demand that the player be released. I was never a big Arena fan because i always see him to be a bit arrogant. However, when MLS fans(and a few Yard ones) were making a mockery of the Ricketts deal he went forward with it. Now they're all on Ricketts' sh!t.
