IMO the world record is far more important that WC or Olympic medals. It is the ultimate in the sport!! Look at the evolution of the record over the last 40 years. More than a few WC or Olympic champs did not make this exclusive club.Not counting Ben Johnson, of course. Just think, the record has dropped only 0.21 secs in 40 years.

Disagree. I don't think you prove yourself as the greatest sprinter by beating minor competition in minor meets...even though you may set the world record in the process. If you can't beat the best in the big meets you will never get full respect. Who is Calvin Smith?
