Reggae Boyz need depth

Reggae Boyz assistant coach Alfredo Montesso believes the current squad could use some freshening up and that it is important for the team to increase their depth ahead of next year's FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
For the last couple of months, the team has consisted of the same basic core of players, who had an outstanding performance at the CONCACAF Gold Cup but have since failed to win their last three matches.

"We have to understand that we need to increase our options, we have to increase our core of players because of injuries and also football is played in moments, sometimes it is working for you sometimes it is not, so you have to increase the numbers," Montesso told Star Sports.
The need to strengthen the Reggae Boyz squad has led to the call-up of three England-based professionals, Bristol City's Marvin Elliot, Brentford's Marcus Bean and Chesterfield's Nathan Smith. England-based professionals being included in the national squad proved a key factor of the national team's historical debut at the 1998 World Cup in France but have at times proved a tricky issue for national coaches.

However, while the team has lost their last four games, Montesso is not over concerned and insists that it is a necessary part of the building process.

"We have to understand that now we are building the team, Theodore (Whitmore) is getting some new players in now, we discussed bringing some new players from England to change the team a little bit," Montesso said.

"We cannot use the qualifiers to test players or build a team, these hard games Colombia, Ecuador and Honduras, who we will play soon will give us a good test and the opportunity to build the team."

Jamaica, currently ranked 45th will next be in action when they face Honduras on Tuesday, October 11.

[quote=SamtheMan!!]I believe we need to put things into perspective and kinda give these yutes their due. Some man a say rux dis and rux dat but them man yah represent the best of what our local leagues have produced in the last 5 years. Add these 3 English yutes to di ting and me want a man tell mi seh we don't have the beating of concacaf bar Mexico and the US! Especially dah crab side Hounduras weh wi a play Wednesday.

I still have my favourites that I think should be included as well as those who are to return from injury. We all know that some key additions such as Johnson and Ricketts and a few that will eventually be Tappa's trump cards will be introduced/reintroduced as well.

I have come to the realization that me and nuff other man pon di site need fi cool down wi blood pressure likkle. Dunno where this optomism has crept from but I think we should give thanks for what we are blessed with and leave the rest to fate. We have made our voices heard, maybe the coaching staff will eventually start to listen.

Tappa and Montesso a the coach and even dem to realize now, ah know seh, wi need depth and better players, Tappa seh wi need central defender, wing backs and midfielder, basically all a di possition except inna the keepa department, suh ah wha yuh a call fi quiteness bouth....?

I don't understand why you waa wi fi settle Sam, "ah wha dis..?"

Boss, if you cool wid dis yah crap side of players that's been around in the rotation for the last 3+ years den gwaan settle den nuh, an nuh badda seh nutten more.

But, nuh badda voice your opinion and tell adda people fi nuh seh nutten, wi naa seetle fi compromise like dis, wi have national pride to and waa sey the ReggaeBoyz raise the bar and galang good and give a good account of themselve ah mek all a wi look good...suh, wi need fi strenghten the side "a lot more," plus what's wrong wid getting the top class players dem from the UK if dem available to we.."would it hurt...?"
,

"This team needs to be revamped and strengthen with better top class players if we want to go to WC 2014 and compete."

Where in my post is it stated that I am settling? Did you not take notice when I said that there will almost certainly be additions made? Man and man weh a clamour for some bredda weh have Jamaica as a afterthought fi look inna di ting good! Nuff a dem that wi a mention tun wi dung aready a dat unoo fi pre, is like seh di man dem call certain ites personally and pledge dem allegiance to rahtid. How unno suh sure dem wah play fi wi? Caw dem Granny born inna Barney-side Westmoreland? A yaad mi represent and nutten please mi more than when a yute weh lef from Garrison mek a name fi demself inna foreign! This process simply cannot be by any means necessary, our exuberance in finding players with the slightest inkling of jamaican lineage is bordering on some sort of bloodlust. Things arent as straight forward as we believe them to be.

Anyway u get mi wrong BL, I know that we are far from our best at this point, but I do believe that comparitively(with this set of players currently)we are close to the top in concacaf. You just need to read and interpret di thing likkle better. Jus stop dis the balla dem wi have now, the man dem show nuff commitment mi dan! When the improvements to the squad are made I will be just as happy as the lot of you, foreign born or otherwise.

If you'd like to know where in your post Sam, I've highlighted it above in blue for you. What did you mean by, "...leave the rest to fate...?"

I never thought I could disagree with anyone's point of view on this forum, about the changes that's needed on the 2011 Gold Cup squad. We need the inclusion of the best players available to us on the team, that could possibly improve our team's quality of play. Almost everyone who loves the ReggaeBoyz and waa see them duh gud, know sey the team we have been using for the last 3+ years was not good enough to take us to Brazil WC 2014. Even the coaches seems to be catching on to it too, and start to mek little changes so far, by inviting three new players,(mi caa believe yuh just mek mi seh dat bout the coaches dem lol).

Just so you know anyway, It is not in my nature to be a retreatist by any means. But, when you look at how the JFF a gwany-gwany and worse-off like how dem waa carry-on like seh them a deal wid dictatorship if yuh notice wid dem and dis (players contract ish)iNi nuh like dat star. Them behavior is in a caste like kinda system mi bredda, yuh nuh sey the way dem a try flex dem muscles? kiss teeth. !

Anyway mi bredda, mek wi continue fi call fi the top class eligible players inna the UK, because wi naa decide fi follow nuh losers... suh mi waa yuh fi join wi to pan dis ya side a di fence yah, and mek wi continue mek the noise fi the betterment of errybaddy.
