HONDURAS:
Olympic Distraction?

Honduras has about 15 "good" senior players in their national team. The rest of their World Cup qualifying team will be made up of guys from their Olympic team :
Hendry Thomas (Wigan Athletic), Kevin Hernandez, Georgie Welcome(Motagua) etc.

The Olympic Games Football tournament runs from August 6-23, 2008. Honduras's first World Cup qualifying game is on August 20, 2008.Is Honduras hoping for a quick exit from the Olympics? \:D

MEXICO:

Does Mexico Still Benefit From Playing at Altitude?

Players from CONCACAF have come to dread a trip to Mexico because they would be playing at altitude. In the past, this has been a benefit for Mexico because most of their players played at home. Well, Mexican players are plying their trades abroad now more than ever. Previously, playing abroad as a Mexican was a no-no but now more Mexicans a leaving to play in better leagues. It now begs to question- Does Mexico still have the advantage of playing at altitude?

Some Mexican Players playing overseas

Antonio De Negris-Ankaspor (Turkey)
Guillmero Franco-Villiareal (Spain)
Nery Castillo-Manchester City (England)
Omar Bravo- Deportiva La Coruna(Spain)
Giovanni Dos Santos- Tottenham Hotspur (England)
Rafael Marcus- Barcelona (Spain)
Andres Guardardo- Depotiva De La Coruna (Spain)
Aaron Galindo- Eintract Frankfurt (Germany)
Ricardo Osornio- VFB Stutgart (Germany)
Carlos Salcedo- PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands)
Hector Moreno-Az Alkmaar
Carlos Vela- Arsenal

Unfortunately, the Olympics won´t run past Sept 10th \:\) Also remember the Honduras U23 that make up a significant part of the senior squad are CONCACAF champions and didn´t choke. Maybe they don´t have the choke culture we are hoping they do. We need to concentrate on our game and not spend so much time worrying about if the other teams will have distractions and will drop off. We need to make the necessary improvements and take it from there and not rely on external factors. Hopefully it is in us to get it done and other teams choking or underachieving won´t be what we need to get by.

Well some of the guys on Honduras and Mexico would be out of their 2nd match of the group like Jamaica plays mexico and canada plays honduras. Why the 2nd leg of the CONCACAF Champions league. the 2nd leg is between September 2 and 4 and the 2nd match of the group is September 6. So players will be jetlagged if they come to match 2 of the WCQ's.
