Squad named to face Bahamas Wednesday, 11 June 2008 Jamaica still smarting from Tuesday night's disappointing 2-1 away loss to Grenada, Technical Director Rene Simoes has named his team for the second round first leg qualifier for CONCACAF World Cup against Bahamas at the National Stadium on Sunday.
The Reggae Boyz squad consists of Donovan Ricketts in goal, Tyrone Marshall, Jermaine Taylor, Ian "Pepe' Goodison and Ricardo ‘Bibbi' Gardner will play in defense.
Andy Williams, Evan Taylor, Rudolph Austin and Demar Phillips will roam in midfield, while Ricardo Fuller and Marlon King will continue upfront.
There is still some concern over Phillips' ankle injury and Fuller who suffered a knee injury.
The coaching staff headed by Simoes said they changed around the formation of the team for experimental purposes and that along with the fatigue of some of the players contributed to the loss.

Something wrong with Simoes. That is the best starting 11 him can find. Two mid 30's players on defence, Marshall almost 35 and Goodison 35 going 36. I am also shock J Taylor is starting this guy have not been impressing anyone the pass few years. a 19 year old year old who just play agasint Island teams. That team cannot take us to Africa unless them going on vacation.
So this Evan Taylor yute... You mean to tell me, that no one in the island was able to pick up how good this player was EXCEPT Simoes???
If I'm not mistaken, doesn't he play for Reno, with the former National Coach WD-40 and for how much game after game, WD-40 was trying to force this yute name Nicholoy Finlayson down our throat and now this yute come from no where and a get a START in a World Cup qualifier????
Tappa was down that side in Western Jamaica coaching Seba and neither of the 2 recognised how talented this yute was... So what we are really saying is that none of the local coaches know talent??? Is that we really a say??? Can't be... Evan Taylor must have skills like Messi or Kaka or can score goal like Pato or Gio...
So a 17 year old yute from Timbuktu come get game from professional baller like JJ, Campbell-Ryce, Daley, Bigga, Stephenson, Langley, etc., etc., etc.,... Anyway, mek we see nuh!!!
The side that was named SHOULD be able to pull us through against Bahamas, but AFTER THAT... Is a joke thing if you believe them can carry us any further.
BTW... Is not fight mi a fight the yute named Evan Taylor... In fact, mi glad him get buss and I hope great things are in store for him... But I've never seen this kid play and I distinctly remember when WD 40 did a try and try and try with Nicholoy Findlayson when nobody else in Jamaica did even really rate thie yute... I hope this is not the case with this Evan Taylor because I am having an extremely hard time believing that from the thousands who watch NPL week in week out, nobody ever mention this "baller" from Reno that "wicked"... And here comes Simoes and just spot him talent and the talent is so good that him even get out some seasoned professionals plying them trade in England and elsewhere for a couple years now.
Me woulda mek one switch to the side... For now... It need a over haul later... But right now, me a take out Evan and slip in Marshall in that role... To replace Marshall round the back, me bring in Ford...

Glad you qualified yourself regarding Evan Taylor.
A local talent is given a chance to shine and all I can hear is complaints. I'm excited to see what this youthman have to offer.
The biggest concern for this game is the three substitutions. In the experimental phase the subs have been a mixed bag and it is critical we keep up the pressure. Unless of course the game isn't close.
My post from another thread that I think is appropriate for this as well.
We must remember that this squad wants to make the WC. In 1998 they wanted to but it was kind of a well wi can give it our best and see, the years after that we had a feeling of entitlement that we should return and we learned that others wanted it more or at least worked harder to get it.
What Simoes has done is gone back to a defense that he is comfortable with which is experienced and one that he can reshape with the bench if needed. If you really look at his named squad its an offensive one; he wants to score early multiple times and let the 35-ish year old defense hold the fort for the majority of the game.
For midfield he is going for less experience but youth and stamina (when last can we say that about a JA mid)with Andy as an experienced anchor.
Overall this is not a bad line up for the Bahamians, obviously you know Rene is still working the rest of the squad into shape.
As to the work permit thing, i hope they were saving the little they got cawse they will be back ina yard or some other small leagues in Europe. The blessing is that if they are at home - the team will gel.

Deh side deh a joke. Dem will sqeeze pass bahamas but mi agree wid Zee, dont will nyam dem suppa in di group stage.
How the hell Jermaine taylor mek di side? Evry football man mi talk to, a di same question dem a ask. Mi know fi sure seh him no good like shavar little toe.
I cannot seh much bout Evon but i watch the NPL on a weekly basis and I av never seen him start a game. I was mixing him up wid another hustling midfielder from Reno. It look like something really wrong with our local coaches. Still lets hope he step up to the table and deliver.

Di starting team still look suspect fi other teams except fi Bahamas. After getting pass Bahamas we would be in big trouble getting a very good result against a stronger team espeacially with young Evan Taylor playing in CM.On the otherhand our 2 best central defenders r missing cause of injury Claude and Stew Peas so this must be a make shift defence.
I thought Adrian Reid and Ford was having a good camp and both played well agaisnt St Vincent. Man this team cannot go to Honduras and Mexico and get a draw. I hoping Simoes is just trying out players and then the next round him weed out and strenghten the squad. Another thought I found it unusual to name your starting 11 five days before the game. I think Simoes is playing a game with Bahamas. Please someone confirm.
Carter I agree with you - the only way this side goes to SA is as guests of Mandela. Jamati I disagree with you the 11 for Sunday is not solid. The defence is shaky - the mid field is suspect. Where is JCR, Langley etc how come these guys cant get playing time and they play at a very high level in Europe. We want Nosworthy.

No game my friend, he is just not very worried. And to be honest, having witnessed our two games vs. BVI, he really and truly has nothing to worry about.
Bahamasoccer you are really down playing the quality of your country men. I would think that you would rather have a never say die attitude towards to fight y'all getting into...instead you throwing in the towel before the fight even start.
Grenada beat Jamaica 2-1 why Bahamas caan do it...AGAIN?

Listen, I would absolutely love it if our boys came out of this two-game series with any kind of results, but I am just being realistic considering the make-up of our team vs. yours.
I know that football is not won on paper and its 11 vs. 11 on the field. However, when you've got a few high school and some US college players (many of them having not played since late last year) as well as the local Nassau boys (themselves not playing at all this year because there was no local mens league) going up against professional players who play week in and week out in leagues such as the English Premier League, the Championship or MLS to name a few then maybe you can understand my distinct lack of optimism.
I would honestly be like a "pig in poop" if we could get something out of these two games, but all I'm really hoping for is for our guys to walk off the field at the end of the games with their heads held high knowing that they represented their country well and that they left everything out on the field. By the way, Jason Roberts and Shalrie Joseph (Grenada's two scorers) both play in leagues "a million miles away" from any of our players.
