No showdown Record-breaking Bolt plays down impending clash with countryman Asafa Powell
BY KAYON RAYNOR Senior staff reporter raynork@jamaicaobserver.com Monday, June 02, 2008
NEW 100-metres world record holder Usain Bolt says his first clash with former record holder Asafa Powell at this month's Olympic trials between June 27 and 29 will not be a major "showdown".
"Right now I'm not even really putting that on my mind," Bolt told journalists upon arriving in the island yesterday afternoon at the Norman Manley International Airport from New York.

The lanky sprinter, who was greeted by president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) Howard Aris and first vice-president Grace Jackson, was warmly welcomed by scores of Jamaicans who congratulated him on his latest accomplishment.
Bolt and Powell must square-off at the national trials in order to wear the black, green and gold of Jamaica in the blue riband event and the 4x100m relays at this summer's Beijing Olympics between August 8 and 24.
But less than 48 hours after clocking a mind-boggling 9.72 seconds to shave 0.02 seconds off Powell's previous world record of 9.74 established in Rieti, Italy last year, Bolt is not reading too much into the clash with the world 100-metre bronze medallist.
"I don't think it will be a showdown," said Bolt, the world 200-metre silver medallist.
"I just think me and Asafa will be going out there to make the team...I don't think we'll be going out there to really prove anything to anybody, we'll just go out there to make the team because it's the trials," the Glen Mills-conditioned athlete noted.
According to the selection policy of the JAAA for national teams, "athletes must return home for the National Championships" and "athletes placing in the first to third positions in all events will be selected, provided that they have attained the qualifying 'A' standard for the competition; the fourth-place athlete will be named as an alternate for the individual event".
The 21-year-old, who also currently holds the World Youth, World Junior and national 200-metre record's of 20.13, 19.93 and 19.75 seconds respectively, says he will now switch his focus to his favoured half-lap event ahead of the Zlata Tetra-Golden Spike Grand Prix meeting on June 12 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
"I'm just really trying to work on my 200 right now, because I did a lot of 100 training earlier (in the season) and now it's time to really focus on my 200," the former William Knibb High School star disclosed.
With his eyes fully focussed on winning the sprint double at the Olympics which is 67 days away, Bolt hinted that he would go after the senior men's 200-metre record of 19.32 established by American Michael Johnson at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
"Well I would love that because I've been working on my 200 for years now, but right now I'm not concentrating on record, I'm just looking forward to the Olympic gold," he said.

I have never been to a Trinidian's website/forum because there is no need to. Why should I do that. Trini websites are for Trini's and Jamaican websites are for the Jamaicans. What are all these Trini's doing on our forum? You know why because they always want to surround themselves with the best, with the masters of everything, the Jamaicans, that's why. What would Cubans be doing on an American forum or visa versa? What would a Spaniard be doing on a French forum or visa versa? These Trini's come here to cause trouble and get us to argue amongst ourselves over nothing. We should not entertain any discussion with these Trini's. When they post something just start a new tread where us Jamaicans can speak only to each other.
Are you that ignornant?

Tru Trini has no respect for Jamaica and Jamaicans and you guys (alfinite) and (jray) are only sucking up to him because he's one of the of the moderators on this forum. Read some of his comments and posts about Jamaica, Jamaicans and the ReggaeBoyz and you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm not a hypocrite, if I don't like somebody I'm going to say it to everybody and not behind closed doors like you guys. TruTrini is disrespectful and the notion on this post that he was challenging the great Usain Bolt pisses me off. This guys is crap in my opinion and he can think whatever he wants about he because that is his opinion which he's entitled to.

If he was married to a Jamaican woman, would that affect your analysis?

Everyone knows TrueTrini is married to a Jamaican woman. But thats the way to mask the real person were dealing with, kind of how some gay guys are married to a woman. People think that they are married to a woman so they are straight when in reality they have never touched their wives, they prefer guys. My issue with TrueTrini is that he's always finding way to make what we do seem fake or illigitimate. How can you ever compare Trinidad to Jamaica? Just like why would you want to compare the USA to Jamaica? Everything about them is different.

So, assuming he is married to a Jamaican woman, you are saying he married her just so he could come on this forum and talk bad about Usain Bolt?

...well, you know what? Who am I to judge. You could be right for all I know. I think some of these Trinis so jealous bout Jamaica that they would actually go out and marry a Jamaican just so them can run up them mouth bout Jamaica.
I hear some misguided closet racists in the US in the 1960s South used to do same thing. Them would go marry a black woman and then go outta street and say the worst things about black people. Then them would turn around and say, "No, I ain't racist. See, my wife's a ni.... uuuuhh colored."
