Nike would go with India for 2 reasons, size of market and production opportunities. With the Jamaica reggaeboyz brand what would be their reasons?

Mr.Phoqry, I am not sure I follow you but I do have some questions for you.

NIKE, PUMA, ADIDAS etc are primarily athletic wear correct? No apparel clothing company in the WORLD have or will EVER limit their appeal to any small group.
With that being said, I would just like to inform you that over 50% of the kids you see wearing Jamaica jersey's or PUMA "Jamaica" sneakers in the USA (trying to look cool)........knows NOTHING about soccer or track and field.

Now maybe you can tell me what team or teams the following players play for?

Shawn Carter aka Jiggaman
Curtis Jackson aka 50 cents

Is there a Tuff Gong FC or Tuff Gong track team/club?.......Maybe ADIDAS was endorsing Rohan

I will leave it at those two for now.....

If you are promoting even plain old water........you want to package your product to reach as many consumers as possible.
Every company in the world has one thing in mind and that is money!!! They will sell their mother to get it.
Trust me boss, Madison Avenue and or share holders on Wall Street don't care how you get the money......JUST DO IT.

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE PICTURE OF THAT CHRIST LIKE FIGURE WEARING SOME NIKE SHOES?............

Anyway I was in Canada prior to the 1998 World Cups and they were running some ADIDAS commercials with BOB MARLEY playing football.......... Based on your statements,I am still trying to figure out who they were appealing to IN CANADA with a commercial like that since BOB was not a CANADIAN or a world re-known FOOTBALLER........and the Reggae music in the back ground.....REGGAE?...FOOTBALL....CANADA?...what was that all about??

We should not cloud our thoughts with the fact that our music is loved and Jamaica is well known...No, we should consider that football fans buy football jerseys and the size of the market for our jerseys has diminished, hence the difficulty in landing kit deals for the past 2 years....

For the record I own 4 HOCKEY jerseys.......
Maybe it's just an anomaly... or maybe pop culture is a hell of a thing.

To more clearly understand your query, let me ask you a question...

while all of this was being done...did they have a kit deal with Jamaica? IFF it is possible to sell jerseys, looking Jamaican, without having to provide their national teams with kits, boots, favors, etc...why should they "sign a deal"?

Companies like PUMA, NIKE, ADIDAS can all swing the tide with the utterance of our ranking being too poor to guarantee a lucrative deal simply because their prospective market size would be larger than what is being offered by Jamaica. What would be necessary to make the Reggaeboyz brand worth the expense?

is kit sponsorship wi looking at bredren \:D

For instance. The theory that kit deal is equal to rankings.

What you are saying is supporting exactly the opposite. Mr. Burrell could have done much better if he tried to sell Jamaica.

But I digress. The Captain's hands were tied. Favour fi favour.

Ah better the Captain did just try dress it up another way but bcoz of his passion to make himself look like the don and try to prove that he's the best thing for Jamaican Football he had to dress it up like this is the best Jamaica can get and he done it..

Well, we appreciate the efforts Mr. Burrell, but it is not the best deal we could have got.. But if we haffi do likkle favour fi favour fi get ahead, thats acceptable.. But him could have given us a likkle piece of the action mek wi help with design or even mek some more pon the side..

It's not just Jamaican's who buy Jamaican gear. Even Metro can work that out.

Jt - You also have to look at it this way. How much was the deal worth with Puma for the Track team? If it's less than what the Reggae Boyz got from Kappa, then that was a serious marketing blunder that has gone unnoticed. On the world stage, our Track & Field Team carries much more weight than the Reggae Boyz and the fact that Puma also has the ability to sell Brand Jamaica.

The Brand Jamaica argument is a bit diluted because if I was Kappa, I would also see Puma as a competitor in my parking spot. The bottom line is that all these companies can sell Brand Jamaica even without sponsoring a team. A perfect example is that Adidas ugly sweat shirt I saw on another thread. As far as I know Adidas is not sponsoring any of our teams, yet they are selling remnants of Brand Jamaica.

The JFF can only market the "Reggae Boyz" as Brand Jamaica is already diluted with too many hands in the pot. And, as you all know, there are more wagonist than fans out there. As soon as the Reggae Boyz exit the First Round, tell me how many more US$70.00 shirts will sell after that?
