We deserve to be in final - Terry

Chelsea captain John Terry felt his side deserved their place in the Champions League final after a dramatic 4-3 aggregate win over Liverpool.

The Blues reached the final for the first time after losing in three semi-finals in four years.

"It's fantastic. I think we've fully deserved it over the years," he said.

Frank Lampard, whose mother died last week, scored a penalty, and Terry said: "What a character he is. It's been a terrible week for him and his family."

Lampard had an excellent game in midfield and his efforts also won praise from Chelsea coach Avram Grant.

We have created history and I am very proud we did it my way

"Frank played very well and in my opinion was one of our key players today. It is not an easy thing he is under. He gave everything to the team," he said.

England midfielder Lampard stepped up after Sami Hyypia brought down Michael Ballack to make the score 3-2 on aggregate in extra time.

Didier Drogba scored his second of the game to make it 3-1 on the night and 4-2 overall, before Ryan Babel's long-range effort made for a nervous finish.

"It is something amazing," said Drogba. "Today we did very well. I am really pleased for the club because we've been looking for this final for too long."

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has promised Paul Scholes will play in the Champions League final after his goal knocked out Barcelona.

Scholes, who was banned for the 1999 final, scored a superb goal to settle the semi-final at Old Trafford and set up an all-English showpiece in Moscow.

"He's one of the great players to come through the ranks here," said Ferguson.

"But I'm so pleased for everyone. It's a great feeling, marvellous. This club deserves to be in the final."

Scholes's swerving strike from 25 yards was only his second goal of the season - and the 33-year-old's first in the Champions League since October 2006.

He missed United's victory over Bayern Munich in the final nine years ago through suspension, but Ferguson said he will be in his line-up when they face either Liverpool or Chelsea on 21 May.

It will be the first final between two English clubs in the history of the competition.

He added: "We can't expect him to score 10-15 goals a season like he did when he was younger, but the one he got tonight makes up for all the ones he can no longer score."

Champions League organiser Uefa is confident English supporters will be able to get Russian visas in time for the final in Moscow.

More than 42,000 fans will travel to Russia to watch Manchester United take on Chelsea on 21 May.

"We are finalising an express way to get visas," Uefa spokesman William Gaillard told BBC Sport.

"We've had extreme goodwill from the Russian government to make it easy for fans. It will be a major breakthrough."

Hours after United booked their place in the final on Tuesday, club officials confirmed that supporters planning to travel would find it easier than normal to get a visa, suggesting those on charter flights approved by the club would be eligible for special arrangements.

United chief executive David Gill will fly to the Russian capital on Thursday to meet Uefa officials, with the matter of visas high on the agenda.

"The visa issue has been there for a while," he told MUTV. "If you are on an organised trip, your ticket will be your visa.

"The actual specifics and fine details will be addressed in the next day or so and then we will communicate with the fans.

We reassure all the fans intending to support their teams in Moscow that despite an extremely tight time-frame their visa applications will be duly processed

Russian Embassy statement

"Everyone in Uefa from Michel Platini to the local organising committee recognise in order for for it to be a showcase, which it clearly will be, you have to ease entry into the country while not totally doing away with what the Russian authorities require."

Ferguson turns sights to Europe

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has set his sights on the Champions League final after clinching his 10th league title.

United won their 17th title with a 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic as Chelsea, their opponents in Moscow on 21 May, could only draw 1-1 at home to Bolton.

"We are bouncing into that final now," Ferguson said. "If we'd lost the title it would have been different.

"If this team goes on now and wins the European Cup, it will be my best ever."

United carved out their Premier League victory with a hard-fought victory against Steve Bruce's side, the goals coming from Cristiano Ronaldo via the penalty spot and Ryan Giggs on the day he equalled Sir Bobby Charlton's club record of 758 appearances for United.

And Giggs said he was confident United could go on to win Ferguson a second European Cup to add to the one the team won in 1999.

The desire is always here and there are still a lot of things left to do

Man Utd assistant manager Carlos Quieroz
"We have a really solid base here, starting with the likes of Edwin (van der Sar) and Rio (Ferdinand) at the back, plus players who can damage teams and score goals.

"Next week we'll be ready for Moscow. We need to make the most of the occasion as they don't come around very often and hopefully we'll win the Champions League."

Ferguson said it was fitting that Giggs scored the goal that put the seal on the title and allowed the celebrations to get under way at the JJB Stadium.

"It was a tough one all right. For most of the game we played well but there were some nervous moments," Ferguson said.

"I was pleased with that second goal. It makes it 10 (title medals) today for Ryan Giggs which is fantastic."

Wigan manager Steve Bruce, a former team-mate of Giggs, said the Welshman's goal had provided a fitting ending to United's Premier League campaign.

Giggs added: "I think we have deserved to win the title this season. Trophies mean a lot to me.

"It was always going to a be a bit nervous for us until we got the second goal.

"I'm obviously very proud to equal the record of someone like Sir Bobby Charlton, who has been watching me develop at the club since I was 14 years old.

"It means a lot as he is probably the best player in the history of the club."

Ferguson believes his team can now go on to break Liverpool's record of 18 league titles.

"I think it will come - this side is young. There is plenty left in them," he said.

"I said before the game that I am not bothered about records. This is what it is about, championships and trophies.

"I am at a great club which makes it easier for me than the rest."

United assistant manager Carlos Quieroz paid tribute to the desire of the players, telling BBC Sport: "Our hunger comes from the feeling of achievement in what is always a very competitive environment.

"We always have a challenge within the club - nothing is ever enough for us, and that is what drives us on.

"The desire is always here and there are still a lot of things left to do."

Without Drogba and Terry, manu should start as favourites. If both can make it back in time, you can`t rule our chelski since the Drog is a real big match player.

Drogba got us with a nice finish in the FA Cup final but I think we can contain him and with Terry out we can really get at that defence.

UPDATE ON Drogba & Terry..

Drogba & Terry recover for final

Both Terry (left) and Drogba should be able to play in Moscow
Didier Drogba says he and Chelsea team-mate John Terry will be fit for the Champions League final against Manchester United in Moscow.

Both were injured in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Bolton, with Drogba hurting his knee and Terry dislocating his elbow.

But the Ivory Coast striker told French newspaper L'Equipe there was "nothing serious" about his injury.

And of Terry, he said: "I have spoken to him. He will play in Moscow. No-one wants to miss this gigantic match."

Drogba confirmed that the knee he hurt on Sunday was the same one that had been operated on last December, but said: "I put ice on it immediately. I will be at training this week."

Interview: Chelsea boss Avram Grant
He called the Moscow showdown so important that it was regarded in the Chelsea dressing-room as "the match of our careers".

Petr Cech is confident Chelsea will defeat Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League final after being pipped to the domestic honors.

Chelsea took the Premier League title race to the wire as they narrowly lost out by two points to eventual champions United.

And ahead of the 'biggest game' of his career, Cech believes the pain of losing out to United will drive Chelsea to success in their European showdown in Moscow on Wednesday.

"I think it's the biggest game of my career," said Cech. "The final of the Champions League is something special.

"We have extra motivation because we wanted to win the title and in the end we lost it by two points.

"To lose the final would be heartbreaking. Something I was taught as a kid whenever we played in a final was that history remembers only winners.

"If you don't win the final, in the end you've got the same as the people who lost in the group stage.

"It will be interesting to see how both teams come to Moscow because we had a disappointment while they were celebrating.

"Sometimes celebrating can affect you more than the defeat. So we'll see how they cope with pressure."

CARSON, Calif. – David Beckham claims he has rarely suffered from nerves, even before and during the biggest games of his career.

However, the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder conceded that he will be filled with tension and trepidation Wednesday morning – from the comfort of his own couch.

At around 11:45 a.m. PDT on Wednesday, Beckham will plunk himself down in front of his television at his Beverly Hills home and barely move for the next two hours as Manchester United takes on Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final.

Beckham’s love affair with United goes further back than his 12-year career at Old Trafford and stems from his father Ted’s lifelong fascination with the club.

Ted would regularly take his son along on the 400-mile round trip from the family home in East London to Manchester for big matches, and his passion for the club rubbed off on young David.

Although he is not normally a big watcher of soccer games on TV, the 33-year-old midfielder will be transfixed by the most anticipated game of the year.

“Without a doubt I will be watching nervously,” Beckham told Yahoo! Sports. “We have got a day off from training, so I will be enjoying that and sit in front of the television and hopefully watching Man United beat Chelsea.

“It will be an electric atmosphere and having two English teams in the European Cup final for the first time makes it extra special. I just hope United go and do it now.”

It would be easy for Beckham to harbor regrets about moving to the United States and missing out on huge occasions such as this mouth-watering showpiece in Moscow. Yet he is not the sort to dwell on what might have been. He is fully focused on his twin goals of bringing success to the Galaxy and increasing the popularity of soccer in North America.

If his old colleagues like Gary Neville and Paul Scholes do manage to lift the trophy again after a gap of nine years, Beckham’s emotions will be those of joy – not jealousy.

“I always think Man United deserve to win everything because I am a United fan,” he said. “They have got a great team, with great players all the way through the team – not just their top players.

“There is an incredible team spirit which flows with the history of the club, and the fans deserve things like this because they support the team like no other around the world.”

Beckham was a key part of the 1999 United team that won the Champions League final to complete a remarkable and unprecedented “treble” in English soccer of three major trophies in one season. His efforts in the closing minutes helped Sir Alex Ferguson’s side erase Bayern Munich’s 1-0 lead heading into injury time and capture the European title with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dramatic winner.

While he admits that his affinity with United makes him biased, Beckham believes the Red Devils do hold a psychological edge over Chelsea: Man U held off the Blues’ late-season charge to raise its second straight Premiership trophy.

“What helps is when you have already got some silverware under your belt,” Beckham said. “That really settles you going into a big game like this because the European Cup final is a huge game.

“They have got the confidence of winning the league. They have got the top spot which is a huge thing in England. They have got a big lift and I hope they go and take this as well.”

I would be BLUE AS HELL...SEE BELOW..

1735: News reaches us that there might have been a bit of trouble at Gatwick after that cancelled flight which left more than 200 Chelsea fans stranded in London. Here's Nick Morrow from Glasgow: "All hell broke loose for a short period of time but I have to say the police did a decent job of controlling it, they weren't aggressive, and by and large people behaved quite well. I've spent, well, the cost of the ticket, the charge for my ticket was £680. On top of that I had my match ticket, return flights from Scotland which have now cost me £200, a night at the Gatwick Hilton hotel which was £140, and I just feel at the moment like I don't even want to watch the game. I can't believe it's going to happen without me being there."
