It was really disheartening to hear that for the first time in the history of National Premier League football, this year's winners and other outstanding teams and individuals will have no prize monies awaiting them at the end of the season. That is really sad considering the hard work that players have put in and the little reward that they get.
A situation like this can really cramp the efforts of these clubs that run on a skimpy budget with players getting some monkey money for pay. Now, one of the few things that they look forward to as a reward at seasons end may not materialize.
With what has transpired, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity for some businesses to step up and offer some sort of assistance regarding the prizes that should be awarded to the teams. If each company donates some money, I am sure that they would be able to cover the amount needed to assist the teams, to show their appreciation to the players and to acknowledge the importance of the league to our football growth and player development.
With that said, I wondered if we here as members of TheReggaeBoyz.com could step up and offer some sort of contribution to help with the prize money awarded to the league teams.
I know that we have a dedicated core of members and football lovers that contribute to our discussions and we all have our different views on the various topics discussed. But there is one thing I am sure of and it is that we all wish the best for our football programs, leagues, teams and their player development.
I believe that collectively, we as football lovers can help in this situation. Here is an opportunity for us to step up to the plate and really try to make a difference. Not just by chat but put our money where our mouth and keyboards usually dominate. A time to really help because it is something that is within our ability to do.
I would like to propose that we as members create TheReggaeBoyz.com prize fund that we could offer as a small contribution and to show that we can actually take the lead in helping out in this situation.
If we each contribute $100, $50 or even $25 we might just be able to offer something to the players association to help. It might be small but it is a lot better that just sitting and running off our mouths and finding faults but no solution.
I would really appreciate your feedback on this idea and maybe tell us how much you would contribute so we can decide if this is a worthwhile effort. Ideally, payments could be made directly to a paypal account that I would establish or other methods that we can decide on if we do this.
We can also decide on the award e.g. best player, most improved player, best team etc, but all that could be discussed as, and if we move forward. I know that we can make a difference and I hope each one of us here will consider this proposal.
I would like to take the lead on this by pledging $100 if we decide to do this.
No way Jagga. I feel no sympathy towards these clowns. Who in their right mind could entrust the sponsorship of the league to a pyramid scheme? You didn't need to be a rocket scientist to see that what Cash Plus was doing was unsustainable and a former Prime Minister and minister of finance negotiated this deal.
Unbelievable!

Chisel, I understand the way you feel towards the administration of the players association and the league, but I am talking about providing a little something for the players.
It could be a trophy for the best club or a player at the club. It has nothing to do with Seaga or Burrell. It is all about the players and showing some appreciation for their effort and to show that the fans still care.
I do not blame the players for what happened and think we are short on vision if we let the stupidity of the leaders cause us overlook the most important element of the game...the players.
Even though I share the same sentiments as Chissel, I would lend some monetary support for this cause. I would be willing to drop in a $100 if this money trickles down to the players.
The administration should have bloody well known that "Cash Minus" is a darn pyramid scheme. It just goes to show that the folks in charge of the NPL are greedy and lack sound reasoning. I totally lost all faith in Edward Seaga at the helm.

Unnuh remember I use to point out the same things when I first got on this forum and man used to want kill mi fi it? And to think Seaga always portray himself as having a different mentality...Only a few peeps on this forum can denigrate the decision because nuff ah unnuh would have done the same thing, grab the extra money and worry bout the consequencies later or 'hope' for the best. Sad fi real. I hope this is a lesson well learned, but judging from similar decisions in the past, much of which IMO is responsible for Jamaica being in the state it is, I doubt it.
As a member of the forum if we decide this is something we can contribute then count me in. I in no way believe this is just a leadership issue. I hope everyone can learn from this and make better decisions going forward.
Jagga..it is admirable that you want to help and while I am not too sure about the reasoning...your proposition is rather interesting. Will give it some thought

Well Jagga. I am not happy with the way Seaga dig a hole for the teams with this Cash Plus crap but I would support us giving the players a little something. My only reservation is that Seaga could be lying just to get some money from a different source. Anyway if the ites dem decide fi do it then I will support it.
Thats a good question Tripeous and now that it seems that a few will support the effort we can start to discuss it further.
I would set up the account similar to what we did when we had the trophy award to Jamie Lawrence a few years ago.
It seems to me that if we contacted both the club and players association it would ensure that it would go to the right person (s) and not get lost somewhere.
A lot of things depends on the amount of money raised. Do we award individual player/players or make a donation to the entire club?
Do we get a nice trophy/trophies or do we provide cash?
Another question is what would the award be for and how would we determine the selection.

listen man, if yu a guh gi a money to the cause, just do it and nuh badda wid di lang talking!
It has been revealed that the National Commercial Bank (NCB) is the source of the $8 million which was recently pumped into the remaining season of the National Premier League.
The Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) in announcing the receipt of the funds did not name NCB as the source.
The PLCA said the $8 million will be used for the prize money.
The League underwent a crippling downsizing following the termination of its sponsorship contract with Cash Plus Limited.
The termination of that contract saw the League needing $28 million to survive the completion of the season.
Last Friday, the RJR Sports Centre reported that the PLCA had received funding from three sources; $6 million from Television Jamaica for media rights for the remainder of the season, another $6 million came from Digicel and $8 million from an undisclosed bank.
It was also revealed at the time that no prize money would have been available for the teams.
