Brazilian clubs eye J'can trio Sean Williams Saturday, March 15, 2008
CURITIBA, Brazil - Following outstanding performances here, a number of Brazilian clubs have expressed interest in offering trials and possibly contracts to a few of Jamaica's local-based Reggae Boyz in Brazil for a three-week tour.
Technical director of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Brazilian Rene Simoes, said he has been receiving numerous calls enquiring about certain players. But the Brazilian did not name the interested clubs or the targeted players.
"There is an interest for some players, but I don't want to be involved because I am not an agent, that is up to Captain (Horace) Burrell," said Simoes Thursday after the Boyz delivered a crushing blow to one of Brazil's top clubs, Atletico Paranaense, defeating them 2-1.
Simoes, who got his old job back as technical director of Jamaica's football in January this year, says he wants to stay far from the negotiations, but said he offered data to the interested parties.
"Of course these clubs come to me and asked for my opinion on the players and I told them the players that will be ready to play here (Brazil) in one month or five months... of course the players have to adjust to the time and playing in Brazil," he said.
Since arriving here over two weeks ago and having played six games, the home-based Boyz have given more than they got, surprising many with both their high level of professionalism and play on the field.
It is believed that those targetted are the Portmore United trio of midfielders Rudolph Austin and Ricardo Cousins, along with defender Adrian Reid.
Cousins, who captained Jamaica to the silver medal at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was a hot property with Brazilian club scouts then, and their interest in him remains as strong as it was back then.
Austin, meantime, has been the most outstanding on the seven-match tour and has scored three goals in the Boyz's three wins, two draws and a defeat.
The local-based group ends their tour with a game against Coritiba Football Club (Simoes's former team) tomorrow in a massive celebration to mark the 318 years of the foundation of Curitiba, the capital of Parana state in the south of the large South American country.

Not all our players fit the England League Championship style of play. It would be smart to look at loan deals with the interested Brazilian clubs.

It is obvious Austin is a target everywhere he plays. He is on the books at stoke and it will remain that way rightfully so.This will suit him and his agent well as the more interest he gets from overseas clubs the more his stock rises.
I said this on numerous occasions and i will say it again.Austin will net the BIGGEST contract given to a local base player.

Ironic how Reid was only on the fringes before Simoes(2nd). I agree, Austin is our most valuable local player yet. Cousins at good age for development.
Very good scheduling. Big game tomorrow. After the last game, newly promoted Coritiba will now be playing a lot more than just pride.
Football nice again.

I guess coaching is not for everyone. Didn't a certain coach that we were paying over $1Mil per year took a similar team to Asia and got humiliated because of lack of coaching and preparation? Congrats to Simoes and the Boyz! I have to congratulate Burrell on this move.

Good talk Big Mountain...all the members of the Burrell hate Club who begged for his removal ( Princess, JT, Shaggy; just to name a few) and the similar like minded delegates whose opinion really mattered, has put Ja back a few years. Only hope Burrell and Simoes can get us back to where we belong.

The jff officials seems they've done a million & one things since november. You're right coaching is not for everyone Laza & Bora were failures maybe because they did not have an auxilliary unit.

Burrell is doing an excellent job now. It was not the case in 2003 when he was kicked out. Maybe it is what he needed.

Burrell is wha?? Simoes is doing a very good job.
Burrell has made a good decision by getting Simoes back on board. Simple. As usual the propaganda machine is at work bigging up who nuh fi get big up and praising those who need not be praised.
What has Burrell done I ask?? (Besides organising a few games that was supposed to get us rising up the rankings or was it to get monies and hiring Simoes)

Heheh. All those haters that were making their comments about Portmore United when they saw how many of our players were selected, I accept your humble apologies. It's like u folks think I agreed because PMU is my team, however, you folks aren't avid NPL fans like myself or perhaps don't have access to the games so you wouldn't really know. Portmore is the best footballing team in the NPL. No matter where we end up, we still are the best at the basics of the game. Unnuh better recognize and give cred where it's due. Our best players are in Brazil and we are still on top of the table with our B team. PMU is miles ahead of the competition.
