Jamaican international Marlon King's move to English Premier League strugglers Fulham remains in limbo following reports that the striker failed a medical on Saturday night.

King was poised for a move away from championship division outfit Watford in a £5 milion deal agreed to on Friday. It is further reported that the striker had already agreed to a £40,000 per week contract with the Cottagers, but concerns over the state of the striker's fitness may force a contract renegotiation.

In 2006, King severely damaged his right knee against Arsenal in the third game of the season for then-promoted Watford.

Ongoing negotiations

According to reports, Fulham's medical staff are dissatisfied with the condition of the joint. As a result, the Craven Cottage team have insisted that the figure be dropped to £4 million and Watford accept payment in instalments, based on King's appearances.

Watford, however, are said to be displeased with the terms of the new contract and negotiations are said to be ongoing.

Managers of both clubs have not commented specifically on the issue, but have expressed their wish for the matter to be resolved quickly.

"It is an ongoing situation and everyone is still talking about it - the clubs, agents and player. We just hope that the matter will be resolved in the coming days and we hope it will be," Fulham manager Roy Hodgson was quoted as saying in reports after Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Arsenal.

'Wants it resolved'

Watford Manager Andy Boothroyd expressed a similar sentiment in reports.

"I don't want to sound like a politician, but the situation with Marlon is ongoing. The player wanted to go and the deal was agreed and, as far as I know, it is still going to go through, but we are in a grey area at the moment.

"The one person who wants it resolved more than anyone else is Marlon King. He's been a great servant for us but I hope for everyone's sake that it goes through."

Desperate to bolster their attacking options, the West London team, currently second to last in the standings, have been in hot pursuit of the striker since the start of the January transfer period. Prior to the latest developments, they had initial bids of £3.5million, £4 million and £4.5 million all turned down.

King has scored 37 goals in 82 starts for the Hornets and has 11 goals for Watford so far this season.

The striker is expected to be recalled for national duty when Jamaica's Reggae Boyz take on Costa Rica on February 6 at the National Stadium. A two-year ban, imposed on King by the previous Jamaica Football Federation administration in June 2006, was lifted in November. King has six goals in 12 appearances for the national team.

Regarding King’s knee, if he failed the medical why is the deal still on going?

More interest shown in King
Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed that two more clubs have joined Fulham in the race to sign striker Marlon King

We've had further contact from Fulham and interest from two other Premier League clubs enquiring about the situation," Boothroyd told the Watford Observer.

"I am hoping the situation will be resolved by the end of this week. Whether Marlon plays for Watford, Fulham or the other two on Saturday I can't tell you."

Earlier King dismissed reports that he had failed a medical at Fulham because of knee problems, and that underlying weaknesses in his knees could bring an end to his career in three years.

"How can I fail a medical when Fulham haven't pulled out of a deal and talks are ongoing?," King said.

His agent Tony Finnigan added: "Reports that Marlon may be finished in three years are utter rubbish. He will play football comfortably until he is 35."

Gardner, Fuller and King are playing too manning game; this is why they keep having knee trouble. They need to play in bigger clubs now, so they can get some rest occasionally. We need them for international football.

Cottagers finalise Johnson capture
Fulham have completed the signing of Eddie Johnson from the Kansas City Wizards on a three-and-a-half-year contract at Craven Cottage

The 23-year-old leaves Kansas City Wizards for the Premier League strugglers, after his application for a work permit was successful.
He joins Danish midfielder Leon Andreasen and Norwegian defender Brede Hangeland at Craven Cottage since the transfer window reopened.
Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson told his club's official website: "I have made no secret of the fact that I believe the squad lacks a certain balance in specific areas of the team and following the loss of Brian McBride to injury, this is true of our strike force.
"At 6ft 1in Eddie has the presence that will complement the other forwards within our squad and he has the ability to offer us another dimension to our attacking play.
"I am delighted that he has joined us and am grateful to the representatives from the Home Office for granting him the work permit which will enable him to play for us as soon as possible."

King deal is dead. He should stay at Watford and get back to the EPL. Fullham is so dull that team would kill is career.

Wigan have joined the chase to sign Marlon King and now appear favourites to land the Watford striker, skysports.com understands.

Fulham agreed terms for King last week, but they were concerned by some aspects of his medical and wanted to renegotiate the deal with Watford.

However, the Cottagers' failure to finalise the move has led to rival interest.

Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd confirmed that a couple of other Premier League clubs had shown an interest and one of those is Wigan.

Fulham remain interested, but Wigan are ready to push hard to land King, who is reported to open to any Premier League switch.

Wigan are believed to have held talks with the Hornets and a deal could very well be agreed shortly.

The likes of Sunderland, Bolton and Middlesbrough have also been credited with an interest.

Middlesbrough would not be a bad choice IMO. I don't know how he would cope with a personality like Roy Keane.

Boro would be a good fit for him, or he could link up with Bibi.

Not only would they have less injuries, but they would probably have better stats.

With all this transfer talks and his fulham deal falling through if he comes to the Reggaeboyz squad 'Bibi' should try to influence him to join him at Bolton. As they need a striker after Anelka exit.
