I only know of John's involvement with Jamaica in the early to mid-80s. In 1981-1986 he came home in the summer and played with the STGC Manning team. He fully sponsored their gears in 1984 and provided assistance at other times.
He also trained at Santos during those times.
John was very instrumental in arranging those special invitational games involving UK based players.
From my personal but limited acquintance, to borrow a phrase, he is a "Player and a Gentleman".
I will be there wid my gambling money. You bring your gambling money plus the $35,000 US that oonuh tief from we fi two years now. You tink wi figet bout it?

John Barnes, hands down! Dwight Yorke was a flash-in-the-pan. (I'm asking for it!)
Seriously, I think that Yorke has had his day, he's not professional enough to keep his career going at the highest level. He needs to be sold to a stupid club like Middlesborough - he's got f**k-all chance of being signed by a decent club. Trust me.
John Barnes was no demi-god though. He had his miraculous moments, of course, but he severely disappointed in England's BIG games. I loved him in the 80's though, he was one of my favourite players. And as someone has already stated, he is a gentleman.
