STORY A CUM TO BUMP!!!!
The trials and convictions of Carlos Hill Cash Plus boss jailed in 1990s for racketeering, mail fraud in US
Wednesday, December 05, 2007
Hill. filed many appeals Cash Plus boss Carlos Hill was convicted of racketeering, mail fraud and of making a false statement in the US in the 1990s and was sentenced to near 30 years in prison, court documents obtained by the Observer have shown.
Beginning in April 1990 when he pleaded guilty in the District Court of New Jersey to one count of racketeering conspiracy, Hill was at the centre of a long list of court proceedings during which he fired a court-appointed attorney but saw his appeals against his sentences for racketeering and mail fraud rejected by the Courts of Appeal in New Jersey and Texas.
A US District Court of New Jersey document signed by Hill as the defendant on April 26, 1990 shows that he entered a guilty plea saying that he "conspired with co-racketeers to commit fraud in interstate commerce regarding mortgages and other collateral instruments".

Both of the major dalies in JA continue to amaze me with their amateurish reporting.
Nothing wrong with disclosing that the man had a previous conviction in the USA, but it has taken on almost personal overtones.
What the JA public and the regulatory bodies should be concerned about is , is the man doing anything illegal in JA?

Zilla is a loooong article, that's just an excerpt, so somebody answer these ??s:
1) Does he have a valid US visa? 2) Was he deported? 3) Does he hold a valid mortage broker license? 4) Is Cash Plus a legal business in Ja? 5) Is it a) an investment club b) an investment house c) an investment scheme

P thats basically my point. There are a lot of other things the observer cld have clarified for example 1-3 of your questions.
What the gov needs to do, is to investigate the operations of cash plus locally and mek sure they are operating under the remit of the law.
To me deh observer article is incomplete.
mi nah write off a man only because a him past. mi av to av some current info

Michael Lee Chin and his crew are behind all these articles. Good source I get that from to. They are upset because ppl are taking their monies out the traditional banks and entering Cash Plus. Instead of trying to compete(by increasing their interest rates), the banks are trying to eliminate him. The so-called "upper-echelon" of society is upset because poor to middle class citizens are moving into their upscale neighbourhoods. The poor should stay poor. That's their point of view. Sad thing is, Jamaica is set up in such a way that more than likely, the banks will win.

With all due respect Miss P. I dont see how #s 1 & 2 have ANYTHING to do with having a business operation in JA.
More importantly;
Is he a JA citizen in good standing ?
All his business operations pass all the legal/legitimate tests, i.e. satisfy all the requirements of whatever agency or regulatory body oversees his bank/investment house/ investment scheme or whatever he is..
Its ALL about full disclosure , especially to a gullible public looking to make some quick $$$$$.

1) if you have visa it means you not convicted of anything so reporter lie (n.b. I haven't read the article yet) 2) if you deported you don't have no more visa which means you might have been convicted which means you past shaky, which means you come land a Yard with a plan to get-rich-quick like the stereotypical deportee
I know that many Ites don't believe in good character and will support anybody as long as we making money, but if there is smoke it might speak of his character. And like I say over and over and over, every liar is a tief and every tief is a liar. So by my theory, if him did lie and tief him will tief and lie.
But I don't know if the reporter verified if he did in fact lie and tief in America and if him tief and lie in Jamaica.
G., what say ye?

As an investor, I only have three(3) questions:
Is the business legal in Jamaica? Has he been convicted of a crime in Jamaica? What amount of $$$ is insured or protected?

the issue here has nothing to do with what some ites are 'ranting' about.
all the traditional banks want is a level playing field where all players in the industry are regulated.
the issue the traditional banks have with Cash Plus is that they (traditional banks) are regulated by the BOJ (central bank) to abide by certain rules and regulations, like having x amount of their deposits held by the central bank for 'insurance purposes. (kinda like the FDIC - which is to protect people $$ up to a certain amount)
with this x amount held up by the central bank, the traditional banks have less to invest which, more often than not, means lower returns for the banks and in turn their customers.
now here comes cash plus, who is not regulated and not required to 'set aside' any of their deposits with the BOJ (central bank). so they have more $$ to 'juggle' and make higher returns and pass those on to their customers.
i don't see a problem with that; nothing wrong with the traditional banks trying to avert another financial sector meltdown.
the funny thing is, that 'insurance' money is to save the same poor people who we say traditional banks a fight.
caw when cash plus risky investments turn sour, there is no insurance, and poor people get wah the duck get, and who fi mek $$ dun mek it and gone already.

I'v already recovered 100% of my principal just before the bad publicity. I still have a lot invested but cannot lose a penny at this point. Chin started his almshouse recently. In March 2007 I took my money from his company. HE PERSONALLY guarantee I would loose it. He said at the time this guy will not be able to sustain 10% a mont interest. Well guess wat...

picture this scenario:
you have a legit import/export business that imports TV's to jamaica for resale. the 10% duty you pay on your goods lowers your profits.
how can you compete against another reseller of TV's who avoid that duty cost some bandulu way and no haffi pay no duty?
the bandulu man can actually sell his goods at a cost lower than yours, run you out of business and Still make a profit; just by not paying that duty.
how can you the legit businessman compete with the bandulu man?
