Simoes
Brazilian Rene Simoes, the man responsible for steering Jamaica to a historic berth in the 1998 World Cup, looks to have packed his bags for an anticipated return to the island, where it is assumed he will take charge of the Reggae Boyz as they bid for an appearance in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
"I am going to a place that needs me, where I was always valued, respected and learned to admire them as a race, as a people and as a country," Simoes, 54, said in a goodbye letter to fans of Brazilian local league Serie B club Curitiba, posted online by Curitiba publication Gazetta Do Pova yesterday.
LOYALTY FROM JFF
"Complicity, loyalty has always been what I had from the President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and its secretary-general," Simoes, the heavily moustached coach, best remembered for his animated forays up and down the sidelines clad in a 'Jesus Saves' T-shirt, continued.
"(It) is this that I always search for in my work, people who recognise the value of the work and invest in the future, who can be strong in losses and say we are going forward. Visionaries," he said.
Simoes, dubbed 'the little magician' by local fans of the game, recently led Curitiba to the Serie B title and promotion to the Brazilian top flight.
Not immediately available
Since being reappointed unopposed as JFF president earlier this month, there has been speculation that Captain Horace Burrell, who brought Simoes on board for the first time in October 1994, would once again look in that direction for guidance.
Days after being in office, the new administration terminated the contract of Serbian Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic, who had signed a four-year contract with the then Crenston Boxhill-led administration in November of last year. The Brazilian, who has also had stints with Trinidad and Tobago's Soca Warriors, Honduras, the Brazil women's teams and the Iran Under-23 team, was, however, not immediately available, having still been bound by contractual ties to his Brazilian club.

Yup.......seems like it.
Anyway Simoes' right hand man Glydiston Ananias will not be making the trip. He said Simoes made him an offer but he would rather be closer to his family. He was given an offer by Coritiba and he made acounter offer and he is waiting.

Simoes scheduled to arrive in January Inspirational Brazilian tactician, Rene Simoes will definately make his much documented return to the Jamaican bench in the middle of January along with his entire support staff. This has been confirmed by Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) sources.
Simoes was expected to arrive in the island over the weekend, however it is understood that the Brazilian has requested to suspend his appointment until the new year because of family reasons. This will not affect Jamaica’s re-energised preparations as the team’s next international assignment is scheduled for the next available FIFA date in February.
The matter was discussed at the most recent JFF board meeting, which lasted for over five hours on Thursday afternoon at the body’s St Lucia Crescent secretariat.
Simoes, who led Jamaica to their only World Cup berth at the France finals in 1998, has been widely tipped to replace the hugely disappointing Serbian Velibor ‘Bora’ Milutinovic, who was recently relieved of his duties by the newly reinstalled Captain Burrell-led JFF administration.
Bora, having signed a mammoth US$1 million-a-year contract with the now-history Crenston Boxhill JFF in 2006, had led the Reggae Boyz to a miserable record of 1 win, 4 losses and 1 draw (excluding Lunar Cup tournament). Under Bora’s tenure, the Reggae Boyz conceded 14 goals and scored 5 of their own in six games.
Subsequent to Milutinovic’s sacking, former national midfielder Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore was appointed as interim head coach and successfully led a star-studded outfit to comfortable victories over Central American rivals El Salvador and Guatemala.
JFF sources have already hinted that the present Seba United player/coach may find himself under the tutelage of the man who once coached him, after the impressive start to his coaching career.
Treasurer Gary Sinclair, while not confirming or denying the capture of Simoes said that the JFF will sign the best man for the job.
He remarked, “there is a process that must be honoured. While I am not going to go as far as to confirm, what I will say at this time is that the next coach of Jamaica will be the man that is best suited for the job and possesses the ability to put this programme on the right path towards qualification to South Africa in 2010.”
As it relates to the team’s next kit suppliers, Sinclair advised that discussions are currently being held with several international sports goods manufacturers.
For the last two World Cup campaigns, the national programme has been sponsored by German kit makers Uhlsport. However, that arrangement came to an end in July after a six-month extension.
The previous administration was close to signing off on a deal with a major Italian brand. There were however, concerns with the monetary value of the deal and the merchandising aspect of the partnership.
Sinclair said the JFF will be looking to maximise on the global appeal of the Reggae Boyz brand.
“We are not just looking for a company to give us clothes, we are looking for a merchandising deal. Reggae Boyz is a brand and internationally recognised brand and we want a company that can maximise on that,” said Sinclair.

Feels like 1998 all over again........It would be perfect if St.Vincent knocks off Canada. Then Jamaica would have the the same 1998 Semi-final group all over again
=================================================================
Okada accepts Japan coach job, says FA chief AFP December 3, 2007 TOKYO (AFP) - Japan's former national coach Takeshi Okada has accepted an offer to return to the job and replace the ailing Bosnian tactician Ivica Osim, the Japan Football Association said Monday.
Okada, 51, becomes the first Japanese national to coach the team since he quit the job in 1998, taking charge as the side prepares for next year's campaign to win a place in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
"He has accepted the position of coach in the toughest of times," Saburo Kawabuchi, the association's president, told a news conference.
"We unanimously approved his appointment," he added after the association's managing directors met to discuss the replacement for Osim, who remains in intensive care after suffering a serious stroke on November 16.
The appointment will be made final by the association's executive board on Friday.
The 66-year-old Osim has recovered enough to have brief conversations, the association's executive director Kozo Tajima told reporters.
"He can communicate with family members for a brief period of time when he regains consciousness," Tajima said.
"We have not informed Mr. Osim of the appointment. We give top priority to his recovery more than anything else," he added.
Okada, 51, known for his emphasis on defensive football, guided Japan on its World Cup finals debut in 1998.
But he quit the post immediately after the team was ousted in the tournament's first round with three straight losses to be replaced by Frenchman Philippe Troussier.
After coaching the national team, Okada managed Consadole Sapporo in the J-League second division in 1999, taking only one year to lead the club to promotion to the premier division.
Okada then moved to the Yokohama Marinos, winning two championships before stepping down last year.
Osim, who led the former Yugoslavia to the 1990 World Cup quarter-finals, took over from Brazilian legend Zico after Japan were knocked out of the World Cup first round in Germany last year.
Under Osim, Japan have won 13 matches, lost five and drawn two. But they failed to win a third straight Asian Cup

It will be interesting to see how many staff members Simoes brings with him to Jamaica. One of the biggest problems with Bora was that he only worked with the senior national team.
I believe we will see Simoes involved in Senior, U20, u17 both men's and women's. That is six(6) teams involved in world cup/olympic qualifications. If he qualifies 3 out 6 to a FIFA World Cup final, that would be nice.

Good luck with the journey to South Africa, by the way I am truetrini, not triniman and I could care less if Jamaica makes it. I want T&T to qualify, but if Jamaica goes and T&T does not, that will not have any influence on the price of bread.
So what d I care, I don't hate on jamaica and Jamaica's accomplishments fella.
I happen to like Jamaica.

What Simoes is seeking is a stable environment. Over his entire coaching career, his time in Jamaica was the longest, he coached in the same city. Since then, he coached in 8 different cities in 4 different countries.

Simoes truly loves Jamaica and vice-versa because he could have gone to Canada or elsewhere and made more money with less responsibilities.

Not true TT. If Jamaica makes it an TT does not oonuh going to have a whole heap more time to do nutten but sit around and eat roti. hahahah. That will likely drive up the demand for flour and affect the price of bread.
Man it's nice to actually have some games to look forward to. Aside from the puerile sniping, I am pleased at the job he has done so far. A 180 from the inactivity of the real side over the past year and a half.
