Easy CoachK. Put aside your personal interest and then you can talk. You need to be mature enough to face reality even when its one you will rather not. Women football is twice as big as men football in the States? Which States you talking bout? What's the women league name in the States again? How much the highest paid female in that league make? Can you name one woman player in that league? You seh you coach women football, well if you do it for compensation do you earn as much for coaching as the men's coach at your facility? When did the Reggagegirlz became the Reggaegirlz? Was it before or after the Reggaeboyz?

These quantitative questions should lead you to the obvious conclusion, which is that the men national team is the backbone of every footballing nation, even the USA despite what you think. That's an irrefutable fact. You seh you are a coach, so you don't need me to tell you that.

Before you run and get upset and tek things personal you need fi realize what you getting upset about. I, like you wish it was different because the Women and the youths, unlike the men, play the game the way it is suppose to play, for the love mostly. But I won't lie to myself thinking it is so when I cannot point to one fact to support it. Because I wish it was so doesn't make it so. I don't hold arguments based on my sentiments, but based on the facts as I see them.

Funny thing is that if The Boyz do well and go to SA the whole football movement in JA would get a boost. And if they don't there is a possibility the whole program could come crashing down. That was my point, it wasn't about cancelling the woman or the youth programme to deny them their glory.

Now since you mentioned your daughter I extend my congratulation to you on her success and may she have a long and prosperous career.

Shatta this is your only sanky, but I am yet to hear you seh I was wrong.

If you could eloborate beyond your feel good phrases, such as your last sentence, that would be helpful.

Maybe you can help out the coach with a few of the questions I posed.

That is a myth coach. All good leaders are partial, it is part of their being. I don't know of one who wasn't. Impartial leaders are not good leaders and they won't be leading for very long.

Do all your players play the same amount of minutes? Do you have a rotating starting lineup where all your players get to start? You seh you have been coaching for a long time therefore I know your answer is no to both questions, but image if it was yes, then how many good players would you be able to recruit to your team...and would your career be as long?

All good leaders are concern with the overall success of whatever they are in charge of. Overall success, not necessarily each individual part been successful.

Remember that my response is under the assumption that the JFF is strap for funds, which I don't think there can be any disagreement to that fact.

Let me be clear that under the assumption that there is no constraints on funds then I would be the first on line to protest any cut in the women or youth programs.

Funny thing coach is that if you were coaching the Reggaeboyz and Burrell tell you seh him ah go allocate equal funding to the young ladies programme as to the Reggaeboyz you would say him crazy and have him committed.

Reggae Girlz whip Cuba to advance
By Howard Walker Observer writer
Sunday, December 02, 2007

HAVANA, Cuba - Jamaica advanced to the CONCACAF Final Round of the Women's Football Olympic Qualifier with a 2-0 victory over Cuba for a 3-0 aggregate score at the Pedro Marrero Estadio yesterday.

The Reggae Girlz join USA, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago in the final qualifying stage scheduled for Mexico from April 2-13, 2008, from which two teams will advance to the Beijing Olympics in China.

Kenesha Reid gave Jamaica the lead in the 30th minute, nodding home from six metres from a Jodi-Ann McGregor corner to give the Reggae Girlz a two-goal cushion and some breathing space.

Super substitute Christina Murray then made the game safe with another curling shot that sailed over the head of substitute goalkeeper Katherine Hidalgo in the 88th minute.
Murray was scoring her second goal after banging in a beauty in Jamaica's first leg 1-0 victory.

Head coach Charles Edwards said it was a tough game, but he knew the Jamaican girls would prevail.

"It was a difficult game for us, but clearly we were the dominant team and somehow we never got our chemistry together. We played tactically according to plan and we have achieved our goal," he said.

He added: "There are a lot of things I want to do but the game has just finished and I want to relax and think about it. But I want to speak with the JFF because the CONCACAF round is in April".

Jamaica started the day with a slender one-goal advantage and being designated the home team, would not allow any slip-up. They started cautiously, but once they got going, the writing was on the wall.

The strike pair of Venicia and Kenesha Reid, along with wing backs Janice Rennalls and Monique, began making in-roads in the Cuban backline and it was not a surprise when Reid opened the scoring and Jamaica well on their way.

Reid, a stocky player outjumped her opponents to head home a McGregor left side corner in the 30th minute.

Moments later Reid's cross fell just wide of Venicia Reid and the goal after beating the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper.

Kenesha Reid, 18, should have doubled her tally and put the game safely out of the reach of Cuba but kicked over the bar with the goalkeeper no where around. In the 45th minute.

With the Cuban offering very little in attack, it was left to the Reggae Girlz to push the tempo and midfielders Alicia James, McGregor and Christina Murray, took control, spreading balls all over the park in another dominant display.

Murray who replaced 16-year-old Price in the 64th minute once again scored a beauty as she did on Thursday coming off the bench. The 18-year-old curled a 20 metres shot over the head of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net in the 88th minute to seal a comfortable win in the end.

The outstanding wingback Rennalls who was very doubtful for today's game, but did yeoman service on her injured left leg, was immediately taken to hospital after the game.

The Reggae Girlz should return home today at 1:10 pm where they can relax and plan for their final assault on qualifying for the China Olympics in Mexico next year.

A quote from Simoes return letter

"Let’s also not forget the development of the women’s national team, which after the 2004 Olympics, as many of you know, is a topic close to my heart and of increasing interest in the world.
"

He also has three(3) grown daugthers and wrote a book in Portuguese about his 2004 Olympic squad.

"Because of the huge costs involved in staging a friendly international of this magnitude, the fans will be asked to pay more to attend the game.

"The fees to be charged are for the bleachers - $1,000 and for the grandstand $2,500 and $3,000, respectively," Burrell said.

Those were the ticket prices when things came to a climax during qualifiers for the 1998 World Cup Finals in France, when cycle track seats were included. Jamaica played two internationals at the National Stadium last month, beating El Salvador 3-0 and Guatemala 2-0. Admission to those games was $500 for bleachers, with grandstand tickets costing $1,200 and $1,500, respectively.

Huge increase

Burrell said: "We know that this is a huge increase. However, we are asking the fans to look at this as their way of contributing to the national programme and aiding the preparation of the Reggae Boyz, who are slated to begin their World Cup qualifiers in June of next year, rather than looking at it as just paying to watch a match

While our senior Olympic women's team had a difficult draw in the tournament, Jamaica and Burrell must continue to support our women's football to the max.

H'View, Reno dominate Women's soccer awards

Friday, May 09, 2008

The top performers for the 2006-07 Women's football season were rewarded at a presentation ceremony at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) offices yesterday.

Teams and individual awards were presented in the three Sherwin Williams-sponsored competitions, with Harbour View FC, Waterhouse and Reno dominating proceedings.

Waterhouse, who lifted the Premier League title, copped four sectional prizes, but the afternoon belonged to 'A' League champions Reno and the 'Stars of the East' with 13 awards between them.

East Kingston-based Harbour View, who won the Colourscape KO, picked up the Fair Play Award while finishing third in the Premier League and claiming the runners-up spot in the mid-season final.

Nicola Bell of Harbour View was named MVP of the KO contest, while Vin Blaine won the Coach-of-the-Year and Kerise Heywood the Top Goalkeeper award.

Reno, who have been promoted to the next season's top flight after a superb season in the 'A' League, took home seven awards.

The Westmoreland club finished the season unbeaten and captured the double. Reno's champion coach, Junior Stewart, received two individual awards, including Coach-of-the-Year, while Tashika Gordon, with 12 goals, claimed the Top Goalscorer award, as did Tameka Barrett, who was voted Top Goalkeeper.

Other notable awardees were national striker Venecia Reid, who took home the Golden Boot Award for scoring the most goals (14), which propelled Portmore Strikers FC into the final against Waterhouse.

Meanwhile, Barbican FC's Alicia James was elected MVP of the Premier League, while Kerry-Ann Smallwood of St Catherine Upliftment FC did likewise in the 'A' League.

Trelawny Women's FC, Maverley/Hughenden and Arnett Gardens also won awards.

Simoes: Show your Mercedes-Benz

LeVaughn Flynn, Staff Reporter

Rene Simoes - file
The analogy was humorous but poignant. At yesterday's awards ceremony for the Sherwin Williams Women's League, technical director of football René Simoes urged the women to show off their Mercedes-Benz. Simoes was using the luxury vehicle as a synonym for the confidence inside each player and brought the point home with one of his famous stories.

"There was once a man who had a beautiful Mercedes-Benz," the Brazilian began his analogy in his usual broken English. "But every day he would lock up his Mercedes in his garage and no one would see it, so who knew he had a Mercedes?"

"Your Mercedes-Benz," he said directly to the players, "is your confidence. Believe in yourself - you are all Mercedes."

Simoes was the guest speaker at the ceremony held at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) office in New Kingston. Among the top teams for the season - Waterhouse (Premier League champs), Reno ('A' league champs) and Harbour View (knockout champs) - were a number of national players who will be in action in the coming weeks in various tournaments. Simoes' aim was to stroke their self-conviction, particularly the U-17 and U-20 teams that have tough CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers ahead of them.

"Without confidence you have nothing because you don't know who you are," Simoes said. "You have to discover the courage and confidence you have inside."

During his speech, the technical director drew reference to Jamaica's senior men's team that qualified for the 1998 World Cup in France, stating that the development of their self-belief was a critical ingredient to their success.

Simoes also had a similar experience while coaching Brazil's women team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

"The girls always say that they discovered their self confidence and courage which led them to win silver in Athens, and then they go on to win the Pan American gold and silver at the World Cup," Simoes added.

The U-20 team will play in a CONCACAF World Championship qualifier between June 17-28 in Mexico, while the U-17 team will be in Trinidad and Tobago between July 17-26 for their qualifiers.

The U-15 girls will take part in a Caribbean tournament from July 30 - August 4 in Trinidad and Tobago.

JFF president Captain Horace Burrell pointed out that it is very costly to maintain four women's teams (including the senior team) but that "once I'm president I will make all opportunities available to the girls."
