I agree with you.
I started to watch the game with 30 minutes left and Jamaica leading 1-0, and through the duration of that period the Ecuadoreans had about 60% of the possession and was attacking non-stop. Hence, Ecuador scoring the equalizer was predictable.
It looked like Jamaica was trying to defend the lead by putting at least six men in the defensive third but that strategy did not work against the Ecuadoreans.
The penalty was dubious but if it was not for the determination and vigor that characterized the constant attacking forays from the Ecuadoreans, they would not have gotten the call. So the point is we must give Ecuador plenty of credit; they were trailing and they never gave up and eventually got their reward.
. . .watching, playing and coaching football over the years I've found the surest sign of a bad referee is one who is too eager to give a questionable red card or penalty(i.e. the big decisions)- a.k.a. Mike Riley . Rough way to lose but Ecuador was better on the day outside the first half hour or so. What's been clear from this tournament is that our youngsters are not as terrible as some would make them out to be-we can play pretty good football in spells. Now imagine if they were asked to play good football week in week as a means of making a living in Jamaica-how good would our national team be? What are we going to be saying about these same bunch of players in 5 years when they should be at the peak of their footballing powers?-will most of them even be playing football?

I would not say they were better, we defended better than them- and we had more clear cut chances than them- in the end not putting away clear cut chances, an unlucky touch by the defender-( because the keeper had the shot covered) and a dive got the better of us.
