Damn can't believe we just dismiss the win of a PUT-TOGETHER at the last minute. I understand that they are older than the Haitians and of course we should note that but are we forgetting that in the past this Haitian team who obviously have been together for sometime now as Haiti do have a YOUTH PROGRAM as poor and desparate as they are.

Now shouldn't we at least acknowledge the fact that we are FINALLY scoring goals at ANY LEVE consistently?

When last you hear us scoring so many goals in a game regardless of what age group you are playing?

When last you hear US talking about tactical change during a game? How many times we complain that Jamaica play with one gear regardless if dem leading or losing.

Every man have free will and should be able to think what he wants whenver he wants but not even one word of encouragement or acknowledgement of whats happening?

Shouldn't it be obvious by now that with only a small amount of knowledge from a Jamaica coach that knows how to also "motivate" the sky is the limit.

You see all it took was humility. An acknowledgement by Downswell that he can learn from any man.

Now I see why he said if given $500,000 he could win the NPL. The man knowledge has improved tenfold and imagine when me send on the Egyptian "man know thyself" book dem?

I understand why nuff man and woman run gone hide as dem can't come pon yah any given day and be reminded that the Prophet walks amongst us.

A dat dem a carry belly fah so dem run gone hide and would rather do that than exalt the youths. I mean all they would have to admit to is that Shatta you are right "We have to invest in the youths" with an academy and we should realise that with the current condition in Jamaica the only path is through what the April 17th man always a say "suffer the children to come onto me"

I mean what is more important than children?
You mean to tell me that proving Shatta wrong and hoping to see him and Bad Ras pop dung is more important than saying okay unnu ol dutty rasta annoying but in the end you guys are right so make we get to work.

What more wonders and signs unnu need fi see?
Wait the other April 17th man never ask dem that to? What a coincidence?

Sidenote: the damn federal government is trying to push through a law that if dem run in pon the medical marijuana dispensaries dem again they can seize the land.
I strongly appeal to all who believe in the separation of powers between the federal and state. Let us protect the CONSTITUTION people!

Back to topic

Again mi nah hide and talk "may the curse be pon unnu children's children" Please stop with the mocking of "what would jesus do?"
If unnu ol hypocrite read the bible I am sure it tells us what to do.

It ago get done and its already done but remember later in life when unnu a get a beating from the father please remember say unnu coulda hide from man but not from the father and from we a youth a grow up a yard we see and know say any MAN that work with youths and love youths get BLESSINGS! Dat a something mi nah beg!

Memba that 20 years from now when unnu can't reverse the hands of time. MEMBA MI TELL UNNU!!

Congrats Downswell and the youths and may your confidence grow and your hard work rewarded.(how hard was that!)

respect

FOOTBALL

Competition Format

Twelve teams play in the men’s football tournament: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, the United States and Venezuela.

The teams are divided into three groups of four teams, playing against the adversaries within their own group. The first places in each group plus the team with best overall performance among the teams coming in second place in each group move on to the semifinals. Cross-over matches happen as follows: 1st in C x 1st in B and 1st in A x the best overall second-placed team. The winning teams in this phase play for the gold and the losers play for the bronze. If there is a tie after regular time, a 30-minute overtime is held. If the tie persists, the decision is made by penalty kicks. In order to define the 5th through 12th positions, decision criteria are used (most victories, number of goals, most scored goals, direct confrontation and draw).

In the women’s competition, ten teams play for the highest spot in the podium, divided into two groups of five teams. Each team meets the rival teams in their own groups. The two first places qualify for the semifinals. The tie decision criteria are the same used in the men’s tournament. These criteria are also valid for the decision of the teams in the 5th through 10th positions.

Athletes

The 22 teams participating in Rio 2007 (12 in the men’s tournament and 10 in the women’s tournament) are entitled to enter 18 athletes, in a total of 396 players.

The countries are represented in the men’s tournament by athletes in the under-20 category, except for three athletes who may be older. There are no age restrictions in the women’s tournament.

. . .good going by the youngsters and congrats to Wendell as well. For a team that did not have a ton of preparation they have acquitted themselves well. Can you imagine if when Kemmar, Ricardo, Duwayne and co. returned home they went directly into a competitive high level league where they could develop their skills and acquire professional attitudes in regard to the sport? Then we would have a sustainable pool of quality players to plug into the national team. What will become of these players when they return from the PanAm Games? I assume they'll go back to Portmore, Village, Reno etc. Those good enough/well enough connected/lucky enough to get a look-in at an overseas club will have the chance to become decent professionals and the rest in 5 years we'll be saying- remember when Ja beat Argentina at the PanAms a few years ago? Whatever happened to Ricardo Cousins and Kemmar Daley? Someone will say he saw them working at Customs and then some of us will cuss them and say how they wasted their talent.

. . .not sure, but I don't know how many generations of players we have to waste before we get it. Granted our youngsters may have been a couple years older but we can throw together a team with little preparation and beat a team that has some of the best young players in the world in Argentina, yet when these two sets of players graduate to their respective Senior teams we would get our brains beaten in by the same players. Why?

Cruyff14 for the first in a long time I am enjoying sitting on the sidelines and enjoying a man a tek it to dem wicked.

Now isn't it sad that nuff man (and woman)run gone instead of just admitting the obvious? Is it really that serious?

Wow!

Imagine the Jamaica Tourist Board a say dem need fi spend $20 million dollar on Advertisement but dem can't see that a small sponsorship of the NPL fi step up the league along with say a parish like Portland where the merchants can get together and sponsor Georges so and push fi improve the NPL so that everytime dem have a home game the half time show focuses on tourists spot

I mean maybe its just me but wouldn't it be more cost effective fi advertise our thing to people who would be more likely to visit Jamaica.

I mean if you are watching the NPL then more than likely you are interested in either football or jamaica and so you sell both sports tourism, eco tourism, jamaican products etc. etc. Wouldn't it make more sense less money fi improve our football product so as to sell our products?

Wouldn't it make sense to try and brand your product from our NPL jerseys that will be shown worlwide via the internet and Fox but the man dem still no believe it all after seeing the effect of BRAND Beckham today.

I mean you have to really believe that guy is more dan you fi deh pon dem level deh.

Or you just really look down pon you poor brother so much so that you are saying to yourself that he deserves his fate.

Funny all mi other ideas mi freely put out on pon here unnu run with it. From the belief that a shirt with Jamaica on it could sell(PUMA) and our colours were a Brand to England robbing our "One Love" slogan right in front of our eyes.(dem a try dem best fi associated demselves with it for the people dem who no know.

NO wonder the brits themselves said that the brand of the future is the truth. Here is the only problem with that most of unnu can't handle the truth so even though its right in front of unnu fi make what unnu always want and that is crazy cash unnu can't touch it.

I mean wow! the saying that "you can't handle the truth" wasn't just a Jack Nicholson line.

So unnu would rather stay a slave than letting the "truth" free unnu. A wah unnu a hide from so?

respect

Boyz whip Haiti to claim semi-final berth at Pan Am
RIO de Janeiro, Brazil - Jamaica's Under-20 Reggae Boyz created history yesterday by beating Haiti to top Group "C" and book their place in next Tuesday's semi-finals of the XV (15th) Pan American Games here.

The Wendell Downswell-coached junior team brushed aside their Haitian counterparts, 4-0, at the Zico Football Centre in the Brazilian capital to become the first Jamaican team to progress to the last four.
The Boyz, who ended with maximum nine points after recording victories against Colombia (1-0) and Argentina (2-0), will face giants Mexico on Tuesday at the Maraca Stadium for a place in the final.
Mexico secured their place in the last four by finishing second behind Bolivia in Group "B".

RIO de Janeiro, Brazil - Leading goalscorer Kemmar Daley (centre) celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal against Haiti during their Pan American Games group match here yesterday. Jamaica won 4-0. (Photo: Bryan Cummings)

No Caribbean team has ever won this tournament as Cuba took silver in 1979, while Curacao and Trinidad & Tobago secured bronze medals in 1955 and 1967, respectively.
James Thomas opened the scoring in the second minute by latching onto a right-sided cross supplied by Reno's Obrian Woodbine.

Midfielder John-Ross Doyley netted arguably the goal of the game, when he struck a left-footed pile-driver of a free kick from some 40 yards to beat Haitian goalkeeper Dorleans Shelton.

Kemmar Daley netted his fourth goal of the tournament in the 26th minute to give the Young Reggae Boyz a 3-0 cushion at half-time.
The diminutive Daley pounced onto a fumbled ball by the Haitian goalkeeper after a rasping free-kick from Doyley, who was later ejected from the game - in the 49th minute - for an unnecessarily dangerous tackle in the centre circle.

Daley wasted a glorious opportunity to notch his fifth goal of the tournament when he uncharacteristically muffed a penalty kick, tapping tamely towards the left of the goalkeeper, who had all the time in the world to effect the save.

However, skipper Ricardo Cousins killed off any hopes the Haitians had of using their one-man advantage to claw their way back into the game, unleashing a powerful free kick from about 30 yards that left Shelton planted firmly to the ground for the final score of 4-0.
"We went out there and stuck to the game plan as the coach (Downswell) told us to keep our composure and continue the hard work to get the result," captain Cousins told the Sunday Observer minutes after the game.

"It feels very good to score, especially in an international game," he added.
For his part, Downswell expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team.

"We're particularly pleased with the performance of the team. we came here not to exert ourselves too much. I think we played tactically disciplined in terms of our approach," he said.
".We just cruised in the second half. It's just unfortunate that John Ross (Doyley) got that red card and probably that is the only blemish in the team's performance, but overall we're pretty satisfied," Downswell added.
Jamaica (U-20) - Duwayne Kerr (84th Dwayne Miller), Ajuran Brown, Jermaine Jarrett, Ricardo Cousins (capt), Eric Vernon, Kemmar Daley, James Thomas (80th Alanzo Adlam), Obrian Woodbine, Dwayne Smith (69th Andrae Campbell), John-Ross Doyley, Troy Smith.

Booked: E Vernon (5th), JR Doyley (Red 49th)
Subs not used: E Campbell, N Bailey, D McNain, D Thompson.
Haiti (U-20) - Dorleans Shelton, Jerome Mechack, Desrivieres (46th Ismael Gregory), Pierre Elusma, Jean Bitielo, Saint Cyr Widner, Saint Louis Wiselet (63rd Gilberto Sylvain), Normil Valdo, Joseph Peterson Capt (78th Nicolas Perou), Charles Herold, Joseph Guemsly.

Booked: C Herold (17th), N Valdo (Red 85th).
Subs not used: G Lesly, J Geraldy.

JAMAICA OBSERVER online edition

I love the fact that these guys have not conceded any goals. Without seeing any of the games, a Jamaican team may have finally figured out how to defend as a team.

Keep up the good work gentlemen!!!

but by posting the age of the players you have just taken the ammunition away from the naysayers who would try to marginalize the youths' feat by saying we're 20 year olds playing against boys

Well, just the Pan Am games must have gotten those numbers from some place. I agree there is a problem with some of the dates because almost all the players born in 1987 were reported as born on Jan 1. That is a bit too much of a coincidence. I am figuring, nevertheless, that they must have obtained the year from someplace. I note that some squads listed on the Pan Am games website include the height and other info on their players. The Haiti squad does not have that information, so it is very probable that we have no accurate information who is playing for Haiti...and we do not know the true age of their players no matter what site you visit. For all we know they could be pulling a Dominican Republic or Africa tactic, where they have under-20 players that look to be about 42. heheheheh

In any event, don't bring a team, lose, and then try to make excuses. It seems to me there are a number of players on Haiti's team that are 20 years old, even if there weren't, that is the team you brought, so accept the loss and stop making excuses. If you decided not to come with your best team that is your business.
