I have traveled to work in Singapore from the USA East Coast, believe me after 20-30 hours of traveling and the time change, you need a minimun of 48 hours to even find out how to put you shoes on right, much less play a football match.

You're right. They certainly could have planned it in advance. The story about planes not having space for all 28 people in the contingent seems to be quite silly. After all, is it really thinking outside the box to have them go on different flights?

You're so right, that was like sleep walking, travelling for such a long flight and playing the game with such short notice is dangerous th the players health also.........

Logistics ....logistics.....we need a much better manager..

I went to almost all of jamaicas matches at the stadium leading up to the 98 world cup. After the loss to borussia dortmand and I think the US, we started to win some games. Which bar are u talking about? If we have raised any kind a bar Y r we losing to indonesia?

Simoes I think started to win against quality opposition after about 2-5 matches

Reggae Boyz kick off Asian tour
... tackle Indonesia in first match of four-nation stint

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Jakarta, Indonesia - Technical director Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic will be presented with a grand opportunity to test the mental fortitude of his players when they kick off their four-nation Asian tour at 7:00 pm (7:00 am Jamaica time) today against Indonesia under less than ideal conditions.

The game will be played at the Gelora Bung Karno Senayan Stadium, which is reported to have a capacity of 110,000, though only about 20,000 to 30,000 spectators are expected to witness today's encounter.

Arriving here just shy of 24 hours before kick-off after a gruelling 40-hour journey from Kingston, which tallies more than 14,000 miles and included stopovers at Montego Bay, Los Angeles, USA, Taipei in Taiwan and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, the Reggae Boyz will also go into the game against the 143rd-ranked side without a serious training session since their 1-0 defeat against Chile earlier this month.

The Jamaicans are also hampered by the absence of two players - ace striker Fabian Taylor of Harbour View and Seba United midfielder Keneil Moodie - who had to return home from Los Angeles after the delegation was advised by the Malaysian Airlines staff that they would not be allowed entry to Malaysia as their passports were under six months to the expiration dates.

The players, along with team manager Michael Blair, remained in Los Angeles in the hope of getting their documents sorted out at the Jamaican Consulate in that state.

However, upon being informed that their situation could not be adequately dealt with from California, the players were sent back home with a view to getting their travel documents renewed expeditiously in order to rejoin the squad.
Blair is expected to rejoin the group today.

Taylor's absence could have a severe impact on the team as he was just one of two genuine strikers in the 20-man squad. The other is St George's Donovan Davis.

"The original plan was to have the team get here at least 48 hours before game time," Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Crenston Boxhill told the Observer yesterday.

"However, flight arrangements did not allow for travel of the 28-man party any earlier. The leg from the US to here proved particularly difficult and our agent even tried to re-route us through Europe, but again the number of seats did not allow for that," Boxhill added.

Bora had originally planned a light workout at the match venue last evening, but thought better of it and rescheduled for this morning.

"All they'll do is just a little stretching, run a little and play a little," he said, before adding, "This is a great opportunity to find out which players are mentally strong.

"If you are mentally strong, then that is good, but if you are not, nobody can help you. You get a chance to represent your country, you should give it your all regardless of the conditions. I will see which players are ready or not."

Added Bora: "We need to play with discipline, good positioning, just like we did against Chile. This is the price you pay to see these countries so far away, to gain more experience to play in different countries under different conditions."

"We are lucky to have the chance to come here and play four games," Bora told the Observer, and his skipper Donald Stewart, though fatigued like his teammates, is prepared to charge his players to prove their mental toughness in facing the challenges head on.

"This is how it's set up," Stewart said. "We can't do anything about it now, so we'll just have to focus and give of our best."

Bora argued that this will be a very important game for Indonesia, one of the four hosts of the Asian Cup, set to run from July 7-29, as they continue their preparation for the event.

The other host venues are Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand. Indonesia are in Group D alongside South Korea, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The hosts, who hail from the world's fourth largest population of approximately 240 million, lost arguably their best striker, Boaz Sollosa, to a broken leg during a 3-0 friendly international win against Hong Kong on May 23. They then lost to Singapore 1-0 earlier this month.

The all local-based squad has been in training for the past two months and will be captained by midfielder Ponaryo Astaman. They continue their preparation with friendlies against Oman on Sunday and against Liberia on June 30.

Bora, Boxhill and Blair apart, the other team officials are Orville Powell, head of delegation; Donovan Duckies, assistant coach; Dr Mark Sanderson, team doctor; and Pablo Camargo, masseur.

Jamaica squad:,/B>

Goalkeepers: Allien Whittaker, Richard McCallum, Dwayne Miller. Defenders: Christopher Harvey, Jermaine Taylor, Adrian Reid, Xavian Virgo, Demar Phillips, Mario Swaby, Lovell Palmer, Rudolph Austin. Midfielders/strikers: Richard Edwards, Donald Stewart, Nicholy Finlayson, Mario Harrison, Donovan Davis, Wolry Wolfe, Fabian Davis.

That's it? I see the JFF is improving with their logistics. I am surprised the Boyz are not still sleeping \:D

Rubbish this... Even if they couldn't win, how long do we have to wait for them to learn how not to lose.

I told unuh this Tour was not going to be a walk over as these teams take the Asian Cup 'very seriously' as these matches against Jamaica will select their teams for the Cup,but i guess why should we take them seriously we just preparing our "C" team for the Pan Am games.

I think that Cayman defeat was one of the reasons Simoes was hired.

1. Boxhill has again shown that he has no management ability at all.

2. I still have confidence in Bora, BUT regardless of what is going on behind the scenes at JFF, after this tour is over, we (the fans) are going to have to start to get an idea of what the real senior team looks like and how they perform.

Boyz beaten 2-1
Late strike propels Indonesia to victory
Ian Burnett
Friday, June 22, 2007

JAKARTA, Indonesia - Striker Bambang Pamungkas struck late to help his Indonesian team steal a 2-1 victory from Jamaica in their friendly international here at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium yesterday.

Pamungkas, who had opened the scoring just shy of the hour mark, was the beneficiary of a generous giveaway in the first of four minutes of time added. The striker gained possession after Harbour View midfielder, substitute Richard Edwards, carelessly gifted away possession of the ball and the home team duly punished them.

Portmore United midfielder Wolry Wolfe, who was employed as a withdrawn striker, alongside Donovan Davis, pulled Jamaica level on 73 minutes with a well-taken goal, his first at the senior level.
Technical director Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic had said prior to the game that it was expected to be another plot on the graph of the football learning curve. And at game's end, he was very candid.
"I hope they learn," he said in a dejected tone. "You make good effort, you play well, but you don't give away the ball. I am sorry for them, but I hope they learn."

Considering the challenges that they faced heading into the game, having arrived here just shy of 24 hours to kick off and without the team's top striker Fabian Taylor, the Reggae Boyz gave as much as they got and could consider themselves unlucky not to have ended with at least a draw.

Jamaica threatened early and had the first real chance of scoring when Demar Phillips, a bundle of energy all night, delivered a teasing left-sided cross which was tamely directed to goalkeeper Yandri Christian Pitoy by Donald Stewart from inside the six-yard box.
That was the best chance for either team in the first stanza.
The home side countered and appeared to boss the midfield without really threatening Richard McCallum in the Jamaican goal.

As the first half drew to a close, the Boyz could be seen reacting to what appeared to be cramps, as a number of passes went astray and there seemed to be a general lack of energy throughout.
Mario Harrison replaced Nicholy Finlayson at the start of the second half and the Boyz seemed to have found renewed energy as they matched the opponents for every ball.
Ten minutes into the half, Muhammad Ridwan tested McCallum with a long-range strike, but the Waterhouse 'keeper proved equal to the task.

Shortly after, Mario Swaby got behind the Indonesian defence on the left flank. He treaded his way to the centre with some deft foot work, but having appeared to have done the hard work, he skied his effort from just inside the penalty area, with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
The home side countered immediately down the left and with Lovel Palmer backtracking, the ball was played deep into the penalty area for Pamungkas to slide home at the back post on 59 minutes.

Jamaica stuck to their guns and Wolfe received a goof pass from Harrison and he did well to get off a screamer which flew into the far side of the goal, much to the chagrin of the approximately 20,000 loyal supporters who were scattered around the huge stadium.

The Boyz then lifted their game yet another level and substitute Rudolph Austin, on debut, was sent through on goal, but he had what appeared a legitimate penalty appeal turned down by the referee.

Austin was at it again on the right-hand side of midfield 10 minutes from the end when his pinpoint cross found the onrushing Phillips, who could not keep his effort down. Shortly after, the same two players combined again, but this time Phillips' diving header went astray.
Nearing the end, McCallum was called on to palm away a vicious free-kick from substitute Zaenal Arif, but as the game seemed headed for a draw, Edwards lost concentration and possession and at this level, such wastefulness hardly goes unpunished.

At game's end captain Donald Stewart experienced severe abdominal cramps and spasms and had to be attended to with the help of doctors from the home side. This incident delayed the team's departure from the stadium by over an hour.
According to team doctor Mark Sanderson, the ailment could have been precipitated from dehydration associated with the long flight to Asia, plus the hot and humid conditions here.

A number of Stewart's teammates complained of cramps and muscle spasms throughout the game, but the skipper's was most serious.
The Boyz are scheduled to depart early today for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, en route to Vietnam, where they play on Sunday.

Teams:
Jamaica - Richard McCallum, Jermaine Taylor, Christopher Harvey, Mario Swaby, Lovel Palmer (Adrian Reid 75th), Donald Stewart, Nicholy Finlayson (Mario Harrison 46th), Demar Phillips (Xavian Virgo 86th), Fabian Davis (Rudolph Austin 78th), Wolry Wolfe, Donovan Davis (Richard Edwards 58th).

Boxhill PhoQ up, plain ah simple. Caan get no more candid dan dat.

Still not giving up on the Boyz, nonetheless. The England tour we had issues, late arrival at the stadium, alledged towel(3) issue and now we travelled across the Atlantic and played within 24 hours.

Boxhill you dissappoint me BIG time bredren.... you waaay over your head in this. No more time for on-the-job training.

As far as mi see, yu korna dark for re-election come November. You just giving Burrell added ammo for his 50 cal.

Bwoy Les, it is debarassing. Still, I can't blame the players as some of them will still have jet lag even as we speak. I'm surprised that they even put up a good fight given the condition they were in. Bora sey him disappointed, but what the f..k him expect! Those guys had to be completely disoriented and fatigued. What is wrong with the JFF? How you ago treat the man dem that way dey. I hope them keep them confidence.

Nuh stop say so.... A true..

Next time as a fan I decide to go and support the boyz I must remember to check all travel arrangements and guard outside the hotel and mek sure they dont get disturbed from there slumber.

Its not the first time the JFF and the reggaeboyz have encountered that predicament. Furthermore, in the history books it will not be recorded that Indonesia beat Jamaica's Jet Lag team, their B team, C or D.

History has been recorded such as Indonesia 2-1 Jamaica goalscorers etc..

Practise game or not, Germany, Brazil, Italy, England,Argentina the likes and even Scotland with the German coach naw put up with that crap from Bora.

We may not be in the same league as Those teams, but if your expectations are low, then.......

The JFF is not in a healthy position on all fronts. I dont think Jamaica can afford the luxuries of experimental teams. In fact CB and WD, were experimenting constantly with team players. And getting better results.

Why do we have to pay some dude millions to experiment. Bora need fi fix up.

I dont even want to repeat what the guy at the take away shop said.. But he said Bora must follow John Woolmer..
