I don't think we give Lowe the respect he deserve, for months he has been impressive, but very few forumites seem to care instead everyone is busy talking about boyd, tappa, fuller and other as if is acomplishment is nothing. He is tempermental, and everyone uses that to knock him til a marning, but shrugging off his goal scoring abilities. Furthermore, I believe he was the mvp of the world cup tournament. Yah, Whitmore scored two goals but that was one game, but Lowe was most the consistent while making his present felt on defense. We can't win without him just look at the stats.

Terminator I truly agree with you, Onandi Lowe is not getting any respect. Onandi is the "BIG MAN" of the Reggae Boyz. Without him Jamaica would not reach this far. So give the man the respect he deserves. Which other Jamaican player could go on trial with Arsenal FC ? He has scored 4 or 5 goals out of the 7 Jamaica has scored. Who else is scoring ? Nandi

I agree and disagree. Firrstly, I disagree that without him Jamaica wouldn't win. Secondly, I agree that he is probably Jamaica's single most valuable player not only at the world cup, but now also. I have not seen any of the games but from the reports it sounds like people like Tappa isn't playing up to his usual standard - though he's tearing up the English D3 - and others as well. I for one think that when it comes to crunch time, say in the next round, we should see all these guys rise their games and really play some quality ball. Fuller should strengthen the front line, though I don't know if he will be starting, but his input will definitely be a plus. If there could ever be a time when all our players were on their top form, I think Boyd and Lowe would be the right choice to go with up front. Let's see how things develop.

I agree with you terminator. Without Nandi we would not now be in the second phase of qualifying for 2002. Nuff people don't respect his and jamaica's accomplishments enough. Many people complain about the standard of play during the first round of qualifying not realising that was the only way we could have played considering the limitation of some players we had to choose from.It is ironic that in former years we had players who could ball any team in our region but could not get favorable results because we did'nt have the rugged forward until recently, burton and now nandi , who can put the ball in the back of the net consistantly if given half a chance. They still don't get enough respect. We don't look so pretty but we are getting the results that count.Anyway Nandi good enough to play for any EPL team like many other african and caribbean ballers. More time.

I agree on only the point that we would not of got this far without lowe's goals....
From 98,b4 I knew this forum existed I used to argue with others that Lowe should be upfront due to his presence and size...The fact that he could handle the ball and ting...I thought he would get the odd few goals, but him get more than I thought...He is good, but not that good...Whitmore was good, him not playing that good as far as me concern....Goodison is improving I think..Gardner was good, and now even better...Boyd...impressionable..thats all..cant see what the fuss is about....Never ever rated Burton or Simpson but then Jamaicans love anything from foreign..I di rate Cargill, but he let me down in the WC..stage fright must be...From the last campaign mt favorite four were Gardner,Whitmore,Goodison and Lowe and Sewell as the outsider in that order....Lowe had a good scoring run but now he has to prove his name is not linekar but rivaldo or henry or any wicked centre forward unuh want to choose....

I want to know why Lowe cant seem to get a contract in Europe? He needs just a few adjustments to his game and he will be effective.I think that he might want to consider his luck in Scotland.I am from Trinidad and a few of our players got chance to go to Europe via Scotland and some guys after leaving highschool go to Scotland. He must not become a Luis Hernandez who mash up international ball and never play ball in Europe.

JT, I agree with you on Lowe being up front all along but many would and have argued
that he was the best man to move to defense because of his size etc.. but I though he was
being under used, since I saw the same abilities(potential) that he is now demonstrating years ago
when he was on tour in Canada. At that time, the Boyz weren't even considered a long shot
to make it to the world cup, but out of all the players I saw he was the most impressive up
front. Canada beat us and I couldn't believe it, because the amount of skilled ballers I saw
growing up in Jamaica I just didn't think it was possible, but then again it was my first
exposure to Jamaica playing on the international level. Anyway Lowe has always been
head and shoulder above the rest easily from long time, he was and still is the only bright
spot for Jamaica through good and bad times.

Watcher, I am as puzzled as you are about him not being able to secure a contract in
europe, but some time it's being in the right place at the right time, bad karma or call it
whatever but I can't put my fingers on it.

Respect JT and all ites. JT I'm puzzled as to why you don't rate Burton and Simpson. have you forgotten the high work rate that Simpson displayed in the last campaign, the tireless helping the forwards/helping the defense, clearing ball off the goal line and all dem ting deh. Burton was named sportsman of the year in Jamaica and the people dem call him Ronaldo plus the man always a hustle. The man score goals and got us to the WC. I man know seh mi ah nuh no foreign mine but dem youth earn my respect. I tell you what, we need a ball hawk like Burton who can put the ball in the back of the net. In all honesty I man caan belittle what dem man deh did just because dem a England man dem. The bottom line is that I want the team fi reach a Korea whether a pure local man or whether a local man and England man together.

Peace.

I think when they originally played for Jamaica they impressed cause the others never played with the hussle and bussle...Burton as far as I am concerned did not deserve sportsman of the year Jah B ...only cause him score two goal and come from foreign.....Cricketer Walsh would of been a better prospect....They are not performing now because the other boys have caught up....So this is why I dont rate them....They havn't done nothin since...They were mediocre then and to me they still are....Now Lowe is first choice,Burton cant spark....He is a good player, dont get me wrong, but I dont rate him Jah B....simpson and sinclair are the same...Powell now is a worker....Between Powell and Simpson who would dare bet against Powell to lose out on a fifty fifty ball...(or the man)heh heh..Jamie Lawrence also is more productive to me than Paul Hall..Them old guys can only play one way....or maybe I am biased...cause I blame Burton,Simpson and sinclair for the WC disaster...

I man understand yuh point JT. Ah jus waan mek sure yuh naah diss di man dem cause dem a England man. What a pit that dis business is "What have you done for me lately". Of a fact I was not too impressed with the others, only Burton and Simpson. I saw them both live and direct in Washington vs the USA and they impressed me. Anyway all that is history now and yuh right Powell is solid. Speaking of Jamie will we ever get a chance to see him?

Peace.

Hi guys, I want to give my two cents about LOWE. I see him play here in the USA. I have say many times that LOWE has ball skills. His problems and weaknesses As I see them as following. LOWE believes that his ball skills alone are good enough. He is dead wrong. Many soccer news writers said LOWE has great potential to become a great player but he lacks disciple, good work attitude. He feels that he knows enough about the game so he does not read and try to gain more knowledge. He was not and will not success in EPL because he does not know what the English managres are looking for in a soccer player. He is like a person who goes on a job interview and does not know what the job is all about. SO when the manager asks him why he wants to work at the manager's commpany, he becomes confuse. You guys know that English soccer is multi billion pounds business, only those who are willing to learn and work hard will success. Jamaica need to develop strikers, teach the young talents about the roles of a striker, the attitude of a striker. Those of you who play domino game, can tell the kind of dominos in the other player's hands and when three or four and even one domino in your partner's hand and also what your opponent has in his hand. In jamaica we say you read the game good, your partner likes it when you play the right domino and he wins the game. It is with this same attitude that jamaica young talents need to develop. I see the schedule for the final round, good luck jamaica. one love

Color Red respect your opinion but you must stop speculate about Nandi. You are just perpetuating some stereotypical talk about lack of disipline, and bad attitude towards Jamaican players. What Nandi need is a good agent and manager.Nandi is a big tall man.Players with his physique looks cumbersome moving up and down the field but that is very deceptive. Nandi is faster than he appears. Jamaica has yet to play to his strength, which is giving him the ball within the eighteen yard box for him to fire that cannon of a shot that he has or sending some crosses for him to head. I think most would agree that Nandi is an above average header of the ball.Nandi is EPL caliber like Fuller,Tappa,Bibi, and some Yard based players. Most of them just need chance in a professional environment to refine their game.It is amazing what some success will do in regards to improving ones attitude.Check out Boyd and to some extent Pepe. Imagine when coach Clovis solve the midfield dilemma and Nandi and the other forward start to get more chances at goal. Feel no way Jamaica will give a good account of itself in the next round. More time.

I slightly agree with Color red that Onandi needs to work on his attitude and that he still has much to learn about being a complete striker. Kudos for that Red. But, Red, wouldn't u agree that there are strikers in the first division and EPL right now who are not complete but yet still they get the chance, mainly because they probably come from the country and there won't be a problem in getting them a work permit, for instance. I have been watching EPL, FA Cup from way since when and I have noticed many of these players who aren't even fit to wipe the boots or a carib baller.

Don't forget a black man still has to work twice as hard as a white man to achieve the same level of respect. Its not a "cop" out but a fact of life. We are still looked upon as inferior in certain things. Whites will concede defeat to us in basketball and athletics but they won't in football(soccer). They will say wwe have the skills etc but we lack discipline and so on and so on. How disciplined is Michael Owen and someother white players when they react like Onnadi on the pitch. He is not the only one to act unprofessional and lash out at an opponent and head butt, and shove dem etc... The black players are the ones who get the most negative press for doing such. Whities get it too but those are only a hand full and not the kind of majority which blacks fall into.

So, with regards to that I agree with firfly that you might be perpetuating the kinda stereotype the whiteman wants to stick to us like crazy glue.

In short, if Onandi was either white or a black man with work permit(british black for instance) he would have had a place on a EPL roster already.

Peace

Delano I understand your point about the obvious problems facing the black baller but the point is Onandi is not white nor from an EU country and he is damn talented. These are the facts some good some not so good,he has the tools to do well in Europe,I have a hunch that he can get his break in a league outside the UK.I once read that he had a stint in Mexico but had problems with the language, other people play with big strong center forwards too!!!.If he has a problem with the language he should think about getting over that problem and broadening his choices.

Good post Delano....A good example is Ian Wright...A better example is arsenal's french midfielder Patrick Viera.....

Onandi, needs that temper to play...He jus needs to learn how to channel the temper...
But does anyone really care if he's scoring???

Ferdinand West ham sold for 18mil but Leeds manager still doesn't think he is the finished article...Lowe's day will come.

Ahhh, tanks fi riminding me Jt. Rio Ferdinand is not even rated that highly in certain circles. At least not to the extent that he would smash the British transfer fee record. Many pundits have been expressing ultimate shock at Leeds' move. All sort of factors can influence a man getting a contract and so I believe the right team don't notice Lowe yet. When a sensible manager who is not looking for a god of a scoring machine(very hard to find) then Lowe will be snapped up. What managers must realise there aren't too many men like Ronaldo(when in his prime) so they better stop using him as a yard stick.

I can think of more than a hanful of strikers of EPL, Div 1 and 2 rosters that are no better(not saying they are worse) than Nandi. Nandi will prove to them come the start of the round of qualifiers. He will show that even though he is not World A quality, he certainly can become that in a short space of time if given the chance to bloom. He is only 25. Not in his prime yet. The man is a natural and with a little more nurturing and a season or two in the EPL or Div1 he could be the name on the tip of tongue of every manager across the globe. Underestimation is what makes us Jamaicans work harder and prove ourselves. Gwaan yaah Nandi. Nuff man dem did tink a di real deal nah gwaan wit nutting in di Premiership.

WOW. Dat was a bit long. Maybe dem need mi give dem West Indian batswomen a pep talk. Dem need a louding up. Lets home dat kinda gloom nuh rub off pon di Carib footballers dem

Peace

In addition

I think nandi could easily get game for Derby, Bradford.

maybe Arsenal was just a step above him at THIS MOMENT IN TIME. Notice, I stress the "this moment in time". I just hope Nandi use dis as him tonic fi keep up the good work and improve a little bit because no striker finish learn until him retire and tun coach and teach all he has learned to the new generation. Case in point Pele. Anybody eva watch the Pele life story with some of his instructions on how to do certain things? Me watch dat deh tape every month. What an inspiration dat man was man.

By the way Jt, what happen to the Legendary DJ? How come is Marcus Stewart a buss di net so regular fi Ipswich? Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego...i mean David Johnson. Im drap aff di planet? Oh I wonder if he will ever crawl back fi get one game fram we?? If so coach fi tell im fi "GO SO" lol
