Jamaican football is going to try and take another step. Maybe Wendell Downswell is not the best of coaches but he has the sense to know that the program needs to get better.
I must applaud Mr. Downswell for the suggestions that he has expressed. I like the part about "to foster professional habits and attitudes" . It tells me he is looking beyond just the ball skills of the players and is committed to the total development of the player. This is positive stuff.
yes Notch. JFF should sit down with the Ministry of education and plan a high/technical school like football academy. i propose JOSE MARTI High. the location is great plus it has ample amount of land space for fields. I would propose gradual transfer of regular students out to neighboring hight schools over a 2-4year periods.
them build a dorm on campus. STUDENT ballers from the corporate area can be shuttled in to school on a dailt basis. while students from the rural areas would stay on campus.
The students would be required to do regular high school work, while learning the basic principles of the game.
the school-academy would them have 2 teams in bothe the DECOSTA Cup and the MANNING cup. the would comprise the schools top 88 16-18y/o and the same for u16, and u14.
the JFf would hold the rights to the players. The JFF would also hire welknown agent with excellent contacts to get the players STABLE pro-contracts. the sellling fee from these players will help finanace the school.
Two are three criteria would be used to determine eligiable students. A1 for naturally talented and gifted players A2 for players physically gifted but lack natural abilities A3 for people who would like to send their kids to a football academy. These kids would be required to pay a tiution, but the expextation of the would also be high. this would be like a college walk-on vs a college scholarship
its a dream I had, what ya'll thick. help me modify this plan.

Karl your choice of location is perfect, as a former student at Jose I can tell you that have the natural resource to handle such a project. The campus is situated on 150 acres of flat land, which in my days supplied massive agri-produution and it is also fed with an abundance of water from a well accross the street at the fisheries and if the is not enough Rio Cobre flows through the property.
Plus, the ballers that don't meet pro-ball standards upon graduation, would have being eqaully proficient academically that they can walk in any NCAA D1 soccer colleges in the States. While JFF continues to hold a percentage of their rights, so if these players after college find pro-contracts, then the JFF academy will be re-embersed.
Come on peeps let hear your views. This can be a business venture as well as a developemental project for JFF.

Yes Karl, seet deh. I think that is as good a location as any. I hear people saying we can't afford to have one but I think if we really want to develop football we can't afford to not build one. What I am hoping is that we don't wait until TnT, Haiti and Martinique build one we start taking the issue seriously. I can see the Academy fielding a team in the NPL. I can see a big football festival every year, The Academy team, All Manning, All Dacosta and a guest team from abroad. Apart from the physical training of the yutes, the academy would allow us to develop a genuine Jamaican football philosophy (I don't think we have one), which could be imparted not only to the players but to local coaches also. Everyone would be on the same page. I am sure the Government will be willing to play their role. The instructors at the Academy could be paid in total or partially through the Ministry of Education. We just need to get this off the ground.
Couple football academy's across the island is the best pu**....bom**...cloth idea mi hear since 98. A this the country nedd not only fi improve the level of football but nuff inner city youth with talent can get a chance to....and most of all the academy fi bom**cloth free...freee like the air we breathe. JFF FI DO ALL THE FINANCING AND MUST BE A SPONSOR. Every major FIRM....COMPANY....BUSINESS...BUSINESSMAN...BUSINESSWOMAN....POLITICIAN must sponsor this academy or academies cuz a football is the only way jamaica can come together and live in a peace. NUTIIN ELSE LEGGO DE VIBES LIKE FOOTBALL...NUTTIN.
if the government can only realize most of shottas is high school age if de youth dem a play ball dem wont be out on de streets think about it if you have a lot of talented kids out of the getto in residing in a football acadamy eat dream & sleep football together maybe de youth from jungle 7 de youth from tg will realise dat dem a struggle de same & wont become enimies later in life peace
Guys I really feel encouraged to see the trend of this discussion, its certainly positive. I'm press for time, but I'd like us to think of ways to get all these wonderful ideas to the right source. If we fail to do so we'll all be as guilty of failing the youths just as the JFF. We MUST BE WILLING TO PLAY OUR PART TOO. I'll make my contibution later. I have to run.....
As Zouse said the coaching in JA needs to be addressed. At this academy, All NPL, A-league, KASAFA, High school and Parish coaches will be required to pass coaching classes to be eligable to coach JFF sanctioned tounaments. Coaching license would be divided into 3 categories. Level 1 being the least regeroues and 3 being the most detailed. NPL, A-League coaches would be required to have a level 3.
Continuing Educational coaching classes would be offered every Saturdays.
Importance of nutrition, physical fitness, metal fitness and video-tape analyzing would be key subject areas for all level licenses.
Coaches would be required to do a yearly 3wks class for recertification.
The academy would allow coaches to take various classes to full-fill their course requirements. For example, Nutrition 1 and 2, Physical drills 1 and 2, Physical fitness 1 and 2. and so on.
Cousre booklets would lets coaches know what courses the MUST take and PASS to full-fill the respective license.
Come peeps lets BRAIN-STORM this DREAM of MINE.
did mentioned that If I had the dough I would start this TODAY.

That is near impossible Jt, to get that kind of no-attendance commitment..
But, i'd like to emphasise once more on the drive for coaching proficiency....seriously still, there are no (maybe 1 or 2 high school) npl coaches present when the boyz are training...

Hello 'ites. First and foremost, I must express a well deserved congratulation to Da Bomber on his acceptance to Div.1 Soccer at Central Connecticut State University. Your excellence on the field of play was outstanding. It had scouts from the North having to make a bid for your talent. However, stick with the books for your security as well as your family's. Now back to the topic of development, Jt and I have massacred this issue for more than a year and finallly it may become fruitfull. I forsee one major itch and that is COACHING. Until we in Jamaica start sponsoring our coaches and PE instructors to further their skills whether it be in Brazil, Spain, France, Africa or Holland we will not reap great rewards. We can develop them in Jamaica but we must be committed to excellence and not political favors. The Free Academy is not going to work too long but a subsidized system would work. We need specialist in the area of Psychology, Phsio- therapy, SCOUTING, Video library specialist,Data base specialist for players profile foreign and Domestic,Physical Trainers and most of all DO NOT FORGET OUR HOMEGROWN TEACHERS for ACADEMICS. A National program by the Govt. and JFF in coordination with Academy residents families to give back to their respective communities FREE FOOTBALL CLINICS. That is building pride, professionalism and a sense of loyalaty to the Jamaican Program. NO just come fi recognition and Boggey after! Special invitation for foreign youth of Jamaican ancestry will be entertained for ALL its worth. For now that is all and Forum send a word of encouragement for the Young DaBomber. He will be in the next U20 squad (my prediction). Karl I must say I enjoy your post as they are always insightful plus concise. Lata forum.
