What's up with the "Find a foreign Coach" campaign every one on. RereFackingHollaHolla. Cho. Jamaica does not need a foreign coach, what Jamaica needs a football philosophy, one that suits us and our players. A foreign coach should be something temporary while we develope local resources. No we have 2 to 4 years before anything serious. We need to use this time to build. Invest in local coaches and improving local talent.
Coaches develope talent so the more trained coaches we have the more resource we have to develope local talent. Football should be treated like any other industry. You develope the local means of production in order to perpetually reap benefits. You can't always go for the quick rewards you have to build.

Mi surprise hearing this from ddread, but evryman have a right nuh true? Decolonize the mind! nice one dat surprise mi some more!
Eventually DDread, eventually, we will be able to use one of our local coaches to allow our team to maximise its talents. We are not there yet, we must learn from who knows and crawl till wi can walk. England despite being so ethocentric, had the sense enough to hire Sven. I completely understand your point but we are not there yet.
Roots, I am not saying nerver hire a foreign coach. They have their uses. What I am saying is that nothing is being done to improve local resources. Clearly right now our local coaches "nuh ready fi dis yet". But there have to be a plan, some kind of roadmap where we gradually improve both the quality of local coaches and local talent. I think if we invest in local coaches we will reap the benefit from them applying their trade on our youngsters thus killing 2 birds.
If all we do right now is rush for another import without simultaniously developing a local talent pool in 2006 we will be right where we are today when that import fails to take us to the dance. We will be forever dependent because we will be looking again for the next quick fix.
Again, we need to build for 2004-6 and beyond and we need to start with our local coaches. I say "build" because "rebuild" might wronfully suggest that had something built before. What the JFF needs to do is to bring a coaching corriculum to the NPL and make it mandatory to go through the course and be "certified" before you can coach in the NPL and maybe a couple of the other top leagues. UWI should be able to put this one together! In fact it should be a real associates type degree programme. From sports psychology to fitness to tactics to history of the game... the whole 9 yards. Then and only then will we become a "footballing nation". We will finally have the resource to develope talent. Right now we import both talent and the resource that developes talent and with that formula we will never get anywhere.
We have an assistant coach who was the under study of Simoes and others. travelled to Brazil and England for clinics etc. Why after 6- 7 years in this position is he still not able? Is he a Dunce? Does this mean that Jamaicans are not capable or are we just putting people in positions that are over their heads. Seems that after all this time we should benefit from all the training that this guy received. This is evidence that we are not selecting the best man for the job but just making sure friend-and-friend are in the program.
DDread, I endorse your statements sir. For some time now i have been saying the same thing. Memba the whole concept of GC Foster was to nuture our sports developement, whatever happen to that ?
Here in the US, the US Soccer Federation have clinics have coaching under 6 all the way up to National Levels. We cater too much to the idea that every balla is a coach. Lets make some serious effort and put some confidence in ourselves and abilities to lead ourselves and control our destinies.

So true bredren. Coaches should understand not only the game and the tatics but the formation and running of a team from the accounting of the team resources to behavourial and psyche of players. I am not saying that this should be their function but there must be an all round undersatnding of the business, and thats what it is, a business. If we want to play on the international level we have to conduct ourselves as international professionals.

That is why I would not just invest in one man. All the NPL coaches should be qualified to coach the national team. We should essentially have all of them as understudies. This way we get to chose from a pool of coaches. In fact there should be a way of automatically selecting say the "coach of the year" from the NPL to participate in coaching the national team.
Invest, invest, invest. Build, build, build.
Yes Nyah, mi just see you. Tell them! Maybe if we start a petition to get some building of sports infrastructure (the stadium and grass is not the only infrastructure needed) someone might listen.

Lets hope that the insight shown in the above messages somehow filters through to the JFF!! As I started to read the thread I had things to say, but by the time I got to the bottom it had all been said! Jamaicans have the answers, the authorities need to listen.
One difference between English and Jamaican football is that in England the fan's (and the media) have immense power. Our messages do get through, (not all the time mind!). Have you got supporters' Unions over there? If not, you should have.
