JAMAICAN AMBASSADORS CHESS & FOOTBALL ACADEMY
P.O. Box 115, Kingston 2

November 28, 2004

Hello Chess Friends:

Jamaican Ambassadors Chess Academy (JACA) in association with The Kingston & St. Andrew Chess Association (KSACA), present the 1st. Annual Kingston & St. Andrew Amateur Chess Championship. This event will be held on the weekend of December 4-5 at the Lucky Charm Sports Club located at 26 Giltress Street in Rollington Town (across from the Rollington Town Police Station). The Lucky Charm Sports Club is a spacious and ideal venue for chess, and is capable of holding as many as 150 players.

The KSA Amateur Championship is open to all players rated under 2200. This event will introduce a new concept in chess in Jamaica in that it will be a United States Chess Federation (USCF) rated event as well as a JCF rated event. All games played between players that are members of the USCF will be rated by the USCF. Players do not have to be USCF members to play in this event, but given the many benefits of USCF membership (USCF rating, FIDE rating, monthly USCF Chess Life magazine, discount of books and equipment, free Internet play at USCF's Chess Live Internet Cafe), all participants are encouraged to be USCF members. USCF membership is $40US. Players desirous of being USCF members should bring their personal checks or money orders made out to the USCF, or contact the USCF directly.

The KSA Amateur Championship will be played in 2 sections: Open Amateur and Cadet (U-14). Entry fee is $400 for KSACA and USCF members. All others $600. Players who are already USCF members, please bring your USCF membership card.

The announced prize fund is $25,000 (based upon entries), with a projected first prize of $9,000 to the Champion. We are still seeking sponsorship so the prize fund could increase. Players are allowed to take a bye in the 1st and 2nd. rounds. The event is a 6 round swiss with rounds 1-3 on Saturday, December 4, and rounds 4-6 on Sunday, December 5. Registration ends at 9:00 am on Saturday, December 4, with round 1 beginning at 10:00 am sharp. The time control is 30/90 +G/15.
