**************************************
3 October 2001 (TEAMtalk) -- The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) look set to end its relationship with Brazilian coaches after the sacking of Clovis de Oliviera. The Federation through its president Captain Hoarce Burrell is reportedly looking to Europe for a replacement for de Oliviera.
According to reports, Burrell to seeking the services of Ruud Gullit to replace de Oliviera, but he is having problems concluding a deal as salary and Jamaica's limited football infrastructure are some of the roadblocks.
Asked about whether Gullit was contacted, Burrell said: "I have no comment at this time. I am keeping everything close to my chest," Burrell said.
However Burrell appeared to like the credentials of the former Dutch international, who speaks five languages and idolises Reggae icon Bob Marley.
It is reported that Gullit is asking U.S.$40,000 a month to coach the national team, far more than the U.S.$25,000 per month that de Oliviera accepted to be in charge of the Boyz. Burrell when asked to confirm or deny the figure said:
"I just don't want to comment on this issue at the moment." Burrell however, admitted that he was having problems replacing de Oliviera.
"It is a greater challenge than the last time," Burrell said. "Some coaches before making a final decision will look at the fact that the country does not have a professional league, our surfaces are not the best and that might make them think twice.
"Fortunately for us, Jamaica is now a respected name in international football and some coaches would like to come here and make a name for themselves. However there are other coaches out there like Rene Simoes who would accept the challenge and we are looking for them," the JFF boss said.

Is the reference to Simoes an apology and request for his return?
Call me pessimistic, but I don't think the Dutchman has proven himself as a club coach much less at the international level. Mark you I admired this guy when he was a player. Yeah he won 1 trophy as Manager of Chelsea, but did anyone remember his stint at Newcastle? Listen Burrell, stop fool around and get someone qualified and experienced to coach the darn team.
Here are two names (objections appreciated) Frank Rikjard Bora (whatever his name is) after he quits China.
He coached Holland to the semis of Euro 2000 and lost to Italy on penalty shoot out. He resigned as coach because in his opinion, he failed to deliver. What he did with that Dutch team is good enough for me.
Looks like The lack of infrastructure has come back to haunt us... I bet he wouldn't think twice about going to Trinidad.
Lazie... Nuh worry... Jamaica dont even reach club level yet so Gullit wont have a problem...
It was inside interference why he did not do so well at Newcastle. It was grudge and backbiting why they flopped his show at Chelsea... And the same thing happened to the Italian coach after that..Cant even remember his name...
At 40 gran, we should expect more and hopefully he will get a more free reign than the others.

They make the world so hard
Is this saying that whichever coach/explayer who is hungry, will take get the job.
Yes Jt our reluctance to focus on the basics has taken its toll again. Trinidad is taking the right approach, “if you build it they will come”. Set up the house then you will have the guest knocking to come in. Then we will have the upper hand refusing who we don’t want instead of settling for who is willing to take the chance at the right cost.

What the hell is Burrell saying...That some coaches would like to come and make a name for themselves...What happened with Simoes and his dream,I seriously doubt if that will happen again. Some come to make name for themselves like Simoes, while others like Clovis came and made a bad name for himself and also the country.I will say this, that we will not get a respectable coach again until we have put the proper infrastructure in place. That is why I had said it was imperative that we qualified the team for 2002,but now that's all up in smoke, because we got some-one who wanted to make a name for himself who was clearly not up to the task from begining. Some people would say that Clovis did a good with the youth team....yeah with the guidiance of Simoes. If we had the team had qualified then there would be a better chance for the local infrastructure to be developed.I see a future now whereby the funds will be dried up from the government and also the private sector.Sam Allardyce just said we would soon be loosing the sponsorship from American Airlines.... well not in those words but......
Yes Jamakee but that tek $$$$ and the JFF dun spend it off. I have no suggestions because I don't know who is in the market but I would welcome a Dutch, English or Argentinian coach. It does'nt have to be someone who has coached on the Int'l level but someone who has been successful where ever they have been.
Yes Jah B, me hear weh you a seh. The way I see it coaches in Argentina must be starving for opportunities to show what they can do and nothing will be opening up for them right now because from the U17 to the national side a run ball and dem look very impressive doing it and dem coaches de nah leave fi now.
If Burrell was any good, him could go sell the program to one of dem U17 assisant coaches deh or use dem as consultant with some local coaches.
Trust me jt, any day JA can consistently display ball control and bounce the ball like Argentina or to a lesser extent, Hondurus, there will be nothing in our zone that can handle us.
Respect JamAckee, Honduras saaf, I think we bounce better ball than them. That is why I don't rate Clovis. He had the team to take to the orient. The only game we lost, really lost was the fiasco at azteca. We lost 21 to CR in CR and from what I heard, should have won ( a ton of cards and bad ref). Barely lost to Hon in Hon. Gave Us the Game in Boston (should have drawn). Gave Mexico the game at the office after the own goal gift.
I think when you compare how our players play for their club teams vs how they play for Jamaica you clearly see, with few exceptions, they all play better for their clubs. That means our coaches are messing somehting up.
Finally I am not sure why they are haggling so hard with RUUD over the 40k per month. They offered Lazaroni more than twice that much. 40k per year is less than 0.5 Mil and Laza was(reportedly) getting 1M$US. I like RUUD for many reasons one of which is a possible sense of identity that he could potentially offer. That is also why I like Barnes.

dDread- Read again, US$40,000 PER MONTH!!!
That's what shocked me! Please say it's a typo in the press. Does JA have that kind of money and if so, Clovis needs to give some money back as he did not earn his US$300,000.
Yes Princess, I meant 40K per month. that is less than halh of what they were paying Lazaroni. Simoes was smart and did not disclose what he was getting.
The Jff should try to keep the salary figures secret because it will make it hard for them to secure good coaches. The salary is used as a ranking of coaches and although a given coach might want to work with the program he will not want to lose stripes on the market by signing a low dollar contract.
I say set up a performance based deal deal with RUUD. A deal that rewards achievement. for example bonus for winning the copaCaribeMug, getting us to the olympics and qualifying for 2006 etc. Set the deal so that it yeilds him far more than 40k per month if he achieve the goals but average out to what Clovis was getting if he does not.
I think a reggaeBoyz team with "the dread at the controls" would be quite marketable... to the tune of far more than 40K per month if the dread performs.
