King expelled
Euell, Campbell-Ryce fined for England game
Ian Burnett, Sports Editor
Thursday, June 01, 2006

KING... was reportedly rude to team management after breaking curfew

Manchester City, England - Less than 72 hours before their historic game against England, the Reggae Boyz band was thrown into turmoil yesterday after ace striker Marlon King was expelled by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) for disciplinary reasons.

Team-mates Jason Euell and Jamal Campbell-Ryce received lighter punishment - fined half their match fees for Saturday's game - after the JFF management and technical staff heard appeals by all three players.

The JFF team had met earlier in the morning and expelled all three players, who broke curfew.

CAMPBELL-RYCE (right). broke team curfew Tuesday night
The JFF, through its president, last night issued a statement to the effect that these disciplinary actions were borne out of the JFF's policy of "zero tolerance" against actions that "can harm team unity and goals" and "potentially bring the game into disrepute".

"It is also borne of the federation's firmness that discipline is critical to building professionalism in the sport and in the players," the statement read.

Subsequent to the initial decision to expel the players, the JFF received appeals from the trio, who expressed a strong desire to represent Jamaica in the game against England on Saturday.

The Observer understands that the players broke curfew on Tuesday night, and when team management realised that they had left the Marriott, Worsley Park Hotel on the outskirts of Manchester, an order was given to the hotel staff for their keys to be inactivated.

EUELL. also accused of breaking team curfew
Upon the players' return to the hotel after 2:00 am, they were advised by the hotel staff to visit the president's room, where a meeting was held and a decision taken to expel them.

King, who helped Watford gain promotion from the English Championship to the Premier League with a championship-leading 21 goals, became boisterous and is reported to have been rude to the team's management.

According to JFF head Crenston Boxhill, King's expulsion "was more than just breaking curfew". He did not wish to elaborate, but said Euell and Campbell-Ryce "apologised and admitted to their error, but King showed no remorse".

King, Euell and Campbell-Ryce were seen as key starters for Jamaica in Saturday's game. Campbell-Ryce trained with the team yesterday, but Euell requested permission to "clear his head", the Observer understands.

Permission was granted and he is expected to resume training today.

Yesterday, the team practised at the Manchester United Youth Training Ground about 15 minutes from the hotel.
The players appeared unfazed by the incident and according to technical director Wendell Downswell, it "was a relatively good training session".

"As a group we analysed the game between England and Hungary at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. They all participated in a lively discussion," Downswell added.

And after their warm-up phase, coach Downswell guided them through the offensive approach into Saturday's game.

The team then finished off the day at the hotel with a second motivational speaker - Michael Heppell - to follow up on one by Wayne Howard the previous day.

Meanwhile, the ever-present Deon Burton was called in to replace King. Burton joined up with team-mates late yesterday and Downswell is optimistic Wednesday's episode will not dampen team spirit.

"What happened, I don't think it has any impact (negative) on the players as they are all professionals and they have been through this and seen what it is like," he said.

I guess Mr. King got his JUST REWARD. Ano di TD alone him DIS...ALL management and BOXHILL at the Hotel. LET HIM GO F@CK Himself!

See...if him did just cool...cause Euell and Campbell-Ryce never even get penalized at all with no fine or annything. After all, half of nothing is nothing. (o.k., I shouldn't have said that).

But yeah, and just to satisfy the Ras, I will state explicitly that the right action was taken. Ras, I'm not sure you will find many nandi-haters against this decision.

I have always questioned King’s commitment and attitude toward the program since that USA game when he told his teammates to F*** off after opting to shoot from a ridiculous angle instead of passing to a team-mate in a better position.

Then there was another report of him not showing up because of ‘family reasons’ and I made light of the situation by saying he’s a real Englishman with his diplomacy.

But then I gave him the benefit of the doubt and overlooked those incidents and was willing to accept him because of his recent goal scoring prowess.

Now this!!!!

If all this is true, DEN KING CAN MOVE HIM !@#$!#@%$!#! And mek a next yute get a chance. And mi naw tek back no chat.

Again, if the reports are true then it is obvious that Euell and Ryce are committed by appealing to have their expulsion overturned. It means a lot that they are at least trying to get back on the team.

As mi say, from him initial reaction inna the US game, mi a question him attitude. IS like him confirm it to me say him have a bad attitude.

Now mi want hear the I dem who lik out gainst Nandi attitude lik out to. If not unu is a biased set a !@#@!. (but mi did dun know say unu bias already

Jaro, Link, when unu haffi say bout the King!!!

BLESS

I would think that Deon's patriotism is one of the reasons why he was called into the squad. I also believe that he can still offer strong leadership to the team.

Please lets not forget what Deon has done for the Jamaica senior national team.

King can F*CK OFF!!!!

I guess King is saying, from his viewpoint, he doesn't need Jamaica because Jamaica is not a good side and is going nowhere. No sensible player disrespects a country's football organization if he believes that country's national football team has a strong chance of being a force in the game -- which would enhance the player's career.

In retrospect, King is probably saying he should have tried for the Irish squad, for which he was qualified based on parentage.

This incident shows Jamaica is subject to this type of treatment because of its current position. Jamaica must put up a good performance against England to erase all doubts about the country's program and increase the respect it receives from people around the world. A pitiful performance and I can see more of this treatment not only from prospective players, but also the general public.

Jamaica striker Marlon King has been sent home from the squad for a breach of discipline.
The 26-year-old Watford forward - who scored 21 goals to guide the Hornets to promotion - was in the squad to face England in a friendly on Saturday.

King's international team-mates Jason Euell and Jamal Campbell-Ryce have also been fined 50% of their match fees.

King has been replaced in Jamaica's squad by Sheffield Wednesday frontman Deon Burton.

Jamaica are preparing to play England for the first time in a World Cup warm-up match at Old Trafford.

According to Jamaican Football Federation president Crenston Boxhill, King refused to apologise after breaking a squad curfew.

Boxhill is reported to have told Jamaican radio: "There was more to it than just breaking curfew and coming late, Marlon King was rude and unapologetic.

"In the discussion that the management team had with him, he was quite unapologetic, which was what really warranted him being expelled from the camp."

Watford, however, claim King left the training camp of his own accord as he was not satisfied with their build-up to the game.

A Hornets statement read: "Watford can confirm that Marlon King has voluntarily left the Jamaican national team training camp.

"He was dissatisfied with the organisation and practice conditions provided by the Jamaican Football Federation - concerns he has previously expressed to the management.

"Marlon is now looking forward to going on holiday with his family and then concentrating on life in the Premiership with Watford."

He is no more uncertain than our strikers - except nandi and King - have been since 1998. Deon Burton single handedly created this forum.

So what happen to the good vibes.

Still Shatta, Lowe had a track record, so it was easy to point out his foolishness. This is actually the first I think most were aware of King clearly carrying on with almshouse, so it was reasonable to wait to see what happened, as no one knew. Once the details came out I think many if not most think had no problem with the admin 5's decision.
