You would think that this squad would be part of the plan to make it to the Olympics but seeing how short sighted the JFF is I doubt if there will be any continuity here. When you say olympics in Jamaica we only think track & field...

Looks like a 2006 U21 Squad, 2007 PanAm Squad and possible 2008 Olympic squad(i.e. born after 1985).

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) invites 23 for CAC Games
published: Tuesday | February 7, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

RICHARD WEST

TWENTY-THREE UNDER-21 players have been selected by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to start preparations for the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games qualifiers in April.

The players reported to camp yesterday at the players' residence at Shortwood Road and will be there until Thursday. This camp is in preparation for the qualifying matches for April 5, 7 and 9, in Paramaribo, Suriname, against the Dominican Republic and hosts Suriname.

The CAC Games will be held in Colombia in July and Wendell Downswell, technical director, told The Gleaner that there is a possibility that the Young Reggae Boyz will be playing two international friendly matches in Berbuda on February 22 and 26.

"We have started to intensify the preparation because there are two likely games in Bermuda sometime in this month as part of the preparations for the CAC Games qualifiers against Suriname and Dominica Republic."

"The good thing about this squad, is that they have been together for the last two or three years. They have been part of the Under-20 team and a number of them have turned out for the national team so we have a wealth of experience there. They will also form an integral part of the squad for the Olympic qualifiers," Downswell explained.

The invitees are: Jermaine Taylor, Anthony Christie, Richard West, Luton Shelton, Ryan Thompson (Harbour View); Keneil Moodie, Nicholy Finlayson, Mario Harrison (Reno); Rudolph Austin, Sheldon Smith, Adrian Reid, Bryan Bayliss, Rafei Wolfe, Ricardo Cousins, Steven Morissey (Portmore); Marlon Benbow, Howard Fisher (Arnett Gardens); Jeff Pearce (Village United); Ralston Robinson (Waterhouse); Kemar Munroe (St. Catherine); Sean Giveans (Sport Central); Horace Howell (Tivoli Gardens); Merrick Howard (St. Elizabeth).

have they really been togather for the last 2 years.

what happen to some of top Dcup ballas?

I hope they will include some of the overseas players. I thought it would help if they included one or two of the under 17s. Under 21 means over 19 and under 21 it seems fi the JFF.

Trinidad also shaping a nice U21 squad with US-based collegiate players:

Among the players selected based in the US is striker Kevon Neaves, who was in the squad which trained under T&T head coach Leo Beenhakker in Fort Lauderdale last weekend.

The other US-based players are Yohance Marshall (University of South Florida), Kareem Smith (University of South Florida), former T&T Under-20 skipper Makan Hislop (University of South Carolina), Ancil Farria (Southern Connecticut University), Abiola Sandy (Bowling Green University), Kevin Crooks (Clayton State University), Randi Patterson (University of Greensboro) and Colin Kirk.

Among the T&T-based players are former national Under-17 striker Gorean Highley, Under-20 goalie Thorne Holder, Tobago-born keeper Shean Warner, defender Carlon Murray, Superstar Rangers' Josimar Belgrave, Hayden Tinto of Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA Fire, Shane Calderon of W Connection, Kendall Jagdeosingh of National Quarries North East Stars, Kezi Lara of Princes Town Senior Comprehensive, Kareem Freitas (St Anthony's College), Akilie Edwards (Defence Force), Kahleem Hyland and Dion Peters.

Interview with Reggae Boy Simeon Howell
Wednesday, January 28, 2004

Prior to departure for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifiers in Mexico, RBSC spoke with Simeon Howell.

Name: Simeon Howell
Date of Birth: August 26, 1985
Place of Birth: Reading
Club: Reading (started at age 13)
Position: Central midfield

MM: How did you get the call-up?
SH: I came on trial over the summer, at the same time as Bradley (Thomas). I must have impressed, and I played against Cuba away.

MM: What are your Jamaican connections?
SH: My Mom and dad are Jamaican. They migrated around 30 years ago.

MM: How have you settled in?
SH: Only been here twice, but I am starting to settle in. There a lot of new faces all the time. I know Omar Daley from Reading though.

MM: What surprised you most about the experience?
SH: The weather - it is a lot hotter than I expected. It slows down the game, so it makes it different.

MM: What about training compared to England?
SH: Here it’s intense and technical. And some of the players are more skilful than in England.

MM: How do you rate Cargill?
SH: He is a tactical coach.

MM: What is it going to take for the team to advance?
SH: We’ve got a very good chance. We have got a good set of young players, but I don’t know about the other teams as well.

MM: Who are you football heroes?
SH: I compare myself to Patrick Veira. And Paul Scholes of ManU.

MM: What about locally?
SH: Loads of good players. I’m impressed with all.

MM: Well, I want to thank you for the opportunity, Simeon. All the best in the tournament.
SH: Thank you.
