Been wanting to get one of the Ipod's to pop in my car, because it can be direct-wired to the cd player. So I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 60GB video.
Then I learned that my now 7-year old laptop that I use to roll on the internet (64MB ram, Win 98-if it ain't broke, don't fix it) will not support itunes, and neither will the single 1.1 USB port (at lest not adequately).
So I had to buy a new notebook..and the connection kit for the car..and I guess I will now have to get DSL also, rather than the 56k I have been using. $$$a bwoyy, a ju$ $o it go $ometime$.

Tripeous, Shaggy you can also try reggaecountry.com. It is 99c per track (global std.) but you will get tracks that are not on yahoo, AOL etc. Tracks such as Serious Times - Gyptian, People need love - sizzla (Brand new). Reggae ringtones are also available.
Jagga no disrespect intended. Just want the ites to know of another option for reggae purists.

This allows you to purchase music 79 cents a tune and then burn to a cd. I created a cd with 10 tracks for a little over 8 bucks.
It's very user friendly with over a million tunes of all genre.
That was actually what the problem was. I had been burning and buying CD's, and before you know it, I had 100's of them around the place and could not keep track of them or bring them all in the car. Every time I drove out I had to sort through and make sure I had those CD's I wanted tucked away in a bulky CD case. I had one world of cases that I had to sort through, and it was not going to work if all of a sudden I wanted to lick on some old school mento, or find some Supercat, or harken back to Tribe Called Quest or even some Massive Attack or 80's tunes.
With the Ipod (or some other similar device) you can have all of them, up to about 15,000 tunes, right there at hand, all in the space of a calculator-sized device. It's hard to beat.
I still will go to those sites you recommended to pull down those songs to add to the collection though.

Mightykool, thanks for the link. will check that out.
Shaggy, I see you point with the cd cases. I just bought one of dem that holds close to 300 cds.
Nice to keep up with the techies but I'll wait till the prices go down. You see how lap top price come down? A dat mi a talk bout.
Yeh, that CD case thing is crazy, then even if you have it, you have to fumble around with it to find the CD you want. With those mp3 players, touch of a button and it is there and ready to rock.
The prices on the ipods should drop quickly. It is essentially little more than a hard drive with a built in-directory.
The newest Ipods cost $400. The ones from a year ago are already at $200 or less. I was seriously thinking about getting one of the older ones, since I would not really use any of the fancy new features (but you know how it go, you have to have the toys). Ipod is the lick and it is reflected in the price, but you can get as good in another brand for much less.
For the computer thing, that is hard to go spend you money on, because you know that six months later them a tell you seh you things obsolete.
I bought a Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook, which is pretty popular. Also very fast, but already I know that Dell is about to begin selling computers with "Dual Core" Processors (kind of like two processors in one) and it's supposed to be 30-60% faster than the something I just bought. So I know now why I was able to afford mine.

How legal is limewire?
Tripeous, when purchasing music you can apply a simple rule of thumb. That is, any free distribution (subscription based is not free) of music is not legal.
These free sites install cookies and sometimes spiders on your machine that monitors your activity and gives the information to the highest bidder. You also open up your system to WORMS and viruses without even knowing it.
Believe me, IMO, you are taking the right track to purchase the music that you want.
Personally, I am a strong proponent for legalizing the distribution of music. IMHO, the musical geniuses behind the music need/deserve to eat a food too.
Simply put, when you go to work would you want to be exploited and not see any returns?

Mighty, love the talk iyah. I prefer to pay my way and don't have to worry about cookies and all them tracking mechanism deh.
This is why we get so many junk mail at home and wonder how dem get our information.
I've already visited reggae country and I like what I saw. Kill it when mi go home.
To answer your question: No, no one likes to be exploited. I don't, so let the owers of these tunes eat dem food.
This beats going to Best Buy to get a CD for $15 + and only two good song deh pon it.

Thanks for the reggaecountry.com endorsement. We are just trying to do our part.
Ipod is now in effect. The computer has a wireless adapter and it is now picking up about 20 highspeed internet wireless networks in my building, but I don't know if it's proper for me to use them.
