Clinical!! Mattocks a bun MLS!!! All the commentators know seh the yute put himself inna position fi score goals. Yes, them a believer now. Wah dem a seh.. at least 10 goals pon the season? Big up Mattocks. I cannot wait to listen to the Vancouver Whitecaps radio football show tomorrow. Here is a link for those who wanna listen, just click on team 1410 at 3pm PT/6pm ET http://www.teamradio.ca/
Stop the nonsense Darren is not the finish product!!!!!!!! He needs to work on his off the ball movement, his strength and shot conversion rate...He walks around too much in the attacking third and international defenders will have a field day with him...He is not READY YET!!!!
Aside from that...If he continues to develop well he'll be a beast... I only hope that the hype doesn't get to his head and leads him to think that he hsd arrived...He has a way to go before he becomes international quality...he is young and once he puts in the necessary work then I see no problem....
BTW congrats on the 2 goals tonight...he could have had 5 but I'll take the 2...
A why you so mad? A which game you didda watch.. you didn't see the man a run round the the whole field and go back inna defends at times. The man movement create all kind of havoc for Houston defends, you mussa blind and deaf because the commentators dem no stop mention that through out the game. LOL, commentators seh even in 70 sumptin minutes the man still run at defends and playing like a man possess. Watch and see, you all no see nothing yet. A 4 or 5 goal game is brewing. You can't keep a good man down! You all see how him stretch Houston defends? Come on Vancouver Whitecaps fc, 22 pts from 13 games, not bad for a team dat was the beating stick of teams last season. Whitecaps radio show can't start soon enough and the video highlights of the game.

Javincy, you have a legit beef as far as Mattocks replacing Fuller argument, but You're way off when you say Mattocks has way to go to become intl quality. Makes no sense what so ever The man need fi read the post by Links again.
2 of 5 is not a good enough conversion rate for you? Seriously? I"m no scholar but I think 2/5 equates to 40%. Its been a steady progression for Mattocks since high school through College and now MLS. Jamaica now pumping out talent via College and MLS at much higher rate than ever. Come 2014 there's a good chance some our senior players especially forwards will be sitting in the stands.

Mi forgot to ask, wah kind of International quality some people who deh pon the squad so far have even though some a them still flob for the past 9-10 yrs. LOL, watch and learn my yute, ask Ricketts if him did see dat deh shot deh whey Mattocks score pon him using his left foot and also ask, how the yute other shot did feel when him fire another rocket at goal at a skew angle from 25-30 yards out that Ricketts had to parry back into play. Him score pon the back up goal keeper pon USA Nick Miranda (not sure mi spell it right), him score pon Ricketts. Watch and learn my yute. The future has arrive, mi thank god him send to us. Wat would've happen if Akron never come knocking at Waterhouse or if Waterhouse never be persistent in putting this kid out there. Him college coach seh same thing, weh him current coach a seh now. The yute is legit!

Mattocks can create space for his own shot. Watch the youtube feature with all his goals for Akron. In any case lets not criticising di yute for not being a finished product. He has great potential to be a top class striker. Certainly not lacking in confidence or hunger. I like the way he announced his arrival.

Yow, mi si yuh peep di Drogba look and di was him try fi one-time balls coming across the the box jus like Drogba. Dem skill deh tek years fi perfect, but mi like di yute confidence. Drogba wasn't even a striker at 21. He was a right back, so keep working hard Missa Mattocks.....and hit the gym, and one day the Drogba comparisons will be justified.......for more than just the hair gel.

Yo Watchfutbol, Akron coach said he took one look at Mattocks at Waterhouse and new he was the one. Dont think he (Akron coach) watched the entire game, cause he was kinda uncomfortable with Waterhouse surroundings. Love at first sight! Time is the master. Waiting for highlights on FSC tonight!

Stop the nonsense about the future has arrived..Comments like this will only inflate Mattock's head and he is certainly not the finished product...how many 1 v 1 chances he misses per game? how many time do you see him just walking in and around the 18 yards box when his team is attacking? How many aerial ball does he win? Especially when the keeper punts it up to him...How many time he gets bundle off the ball?
At this point in his career, I think that he'd be a colossal failure in international ball... For one there is no Gershon Koffie in Jamaica's team to feed him those nice passes...
I hate to sound this negative but I must separate my emotions. I am not hating on the kid...Don't get me wrong. I see his potential but I also see numerous aspects of his game that he needs to improve on for him to "arrive"... Think about it, if he'd arrived he would've scored 6 goals today.
I sincerely hope that Mattock doesn't listen to people who tells him that he has arrived and continues to improve on his game... Mattock just take a look at what happened to your mentor in international football and use that as a guide...Work hard at your craft man and stay humble...You still have a few "corners" to turn.

Mi sure Mattocks nah listen to people like me and you fi tell when him arrive Javincy. All him haafi do is keep putting in work on the training ground and in the gym. Him have nuff upside. I don't see any reason why he can't end up being as good as Chicharito in a few years.

Javincy ease up Iyah. The youth is playing and is a scoring machine. Not only is he a good striker but also a good header of the ball. Did you follow his career at Akron where he was also a playmaker and leader in his last year? The youth is 21 and not the establish striker on the side yet he is making them look ordinary. What you mean he will not become an international striker? How many NPL players get their chance and MLS strikers?
By the end of this year you will be singing a different tune.
Javincy, just trying to stir up debate. Him just a play the fool fi ketch the wise.
Just wondered to myself what it be like for opposing concacaf sides to face a Jamaican front line of Shelton and Mattocks. With Dane Richard on right and Demar Phillips on left. I think that front line would be murderers row. This would be my starting Frontline against USA Sept 7th.
JahMekYah is a reservoir for Great persons to be born...Of late we have seen Asafa,Bolt and Blake in athletics rise up and take their stance Globally. It was years in the making ...I n I might take a long time to reach but the power was embedded in a few for the benefit of many. Darren Mattocks is one such yute....rather he is another Royal son of JahMekYah here for benefit of many... I n I as a nation are a purpose minded people. I see on here a reservoir of thinking individuals with varying talents...If the talented minds that I have read on here were to be involved with the JFF ...in a purposeful way. Then the nation would see the equal in Football as it now stands in Athletics globally. I see ones on here that have minds that can help to propel the Nations Football Program to where it deserves to be. Why can't ones see the Positives and move forward with what is there. I think Burrell as a black man from JahMekYah is doing his best in his capacity as President of the JFF. He has done some good forward thinking by developing coaching schools. The politricks part I don't really care for. He is committed to the Program and he has managed the JFF through some difficult times. The man even hire Theodore Whitmore as Head National Coach. A bold move that may turn out to be the best thing to happen for the Nation's football program. I also think that Tappa is doing his best as Head coach of the Reggae Boyz. Let man and man leggo the negatives now and start walk the good walk and support the ting without prejudice. HI the man said it right concerning Mattocks..........
"It's only a matter of time my yute before the net start rattle. Keep up that confidence and sharpnes".
"I'd say Tappa should just leave you alone and let you sort out your ting on the club team is. 2014 is two years away, U kno affi get in the R'Boyz squad this June; shoot fi September then you'll have had a lot MLS games under ur belt".
It is time to be patient with each other as a Nation scattered worldwide with the blood of our ancestors etched within our DNA. I n I are a Great nation...World Beaters in sports...anything wih tek up we Master...follow I. Lets use this Forum to kindle the fire of support...the 12 player away and at home. Tappa is dih Coach ...young Black man rising up in world in the realms of coaching...mek we giv him the support that he needs to succeed as a Football Coach. The Story so far is a good read and the Future is promising. Next game is innah Antigua...I will be watching and 3 points is what I n I all should be preeing pon dih Forum...Nex game Columbus Ohio..mek we full up the Stadium with Yellow and Show dih team the 12 man dem ah ask for...yuh zeeeit.........Positive Vibration to all.
Those are the words to describe Mattocks at this point. I will not steal this young man's thunder in no way shape or form. However, I do think he should be left with his team at this time BUT definitely invited to ANY FRIENDLY before we meet the US. He will always be a great option in our forward line. I like him as a forward since I first saw him at AKRON! He usually finishes whenever he gets a chance and if he misses, rest assured he WILL BE BACK!! He wont really miss again 9 times out of 10!

MLS review Mattocks winner for Whitecaps June 11, 2012
The Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Houston Dynamo 3-1 in Sunday's only Major League Soccer clash.
Darren Mattocks was the hero as Vancouver secured victory GettyImages: Darren Mattocks was the hero as Vancouver secured victory
Darren Mattocks, who missed the first part of the season though injury, was the match-winner, scoring in the fourth and 66th minutes before Dynamo substitute Macoumba Kandji pulled one back with seven minutes left.
Mattocks' first came when he lost he marked to convert a cross from Lee Young-Pyo, and he won the points by latching on to a pass from Gershon Koffie and firing home.
The Whitecaps had a super-sub of their own up their sleeves, though, with Jordan Harvey netting two minutes from time.
"If you keep on working hard in training and stay focused, hopefully you get your chance," Mattocks said. "I got my chance and took it. But I've got to realise this is one of many games and move past this really quickly and keep on working and stay focused.
"There are a lot of fantastic guys on the team. Anyone can be in the starting 11 at any point. That's the depth of the Vancouver team. Once, you get your chance, you just have to make full use of it."
This yute is beginning to make a name for himself in world football circles...MLS is now a league that is gaining respect in Europe; that bodes well for him.
How long before he catches Tappa's full attention, do di ites think ?

Agree with you bro, its comments like those that got to Freddy Adu and Gio Dos Santos head. When young talented players are not stable enough and get comments like those it stunts their growth. Thinking they already arrived , they starting feeling privileged and stop working hard in training and giving 100%. Same thing could be said of Usain Bolt before Glen Mills took him over. he thought he already arrived before reality struck. Talent alone is not enough. he needs to work on his game on a whole , grow some muscle and keep training hard before he gets to the gate of Arrival . With all that said, BRING IN THE DROGBA di yute got GAME . RONALDO Was not the finished product in 94 but brazil took him to the US for the world cup. never playerd a game but the experience had a profound effect on the player.

that highlighted portion should kill my fear that hype would get to him and mek him tink him deh deh and aready. The yute head screw on good and he will be a success if he keeps this attitude.

WF833 ur sounding out about Mattocks is materializing, and sooner than we thought. Very few sophomore college players that comes out have this kind of Impact in their first season. The top 3 coming out of college in past three years: Teal Bunbury, Steve Zakuani, Darlington Nagbe didn't have this king of impact as to their potential.
Steve Zakuani scored 4 goals in his first season 4 years ago and none this year so far. Bunbury 5 in his freshman year two years ago in MlS; Nagbe in his first year had only 2 goals and 3 so far this year. Nagbe is having an impact year as well.
However the buzz around Mattocks is that he's electric. Which means he's either going to score a lot, or when he's on the pitch he'll cause all sorts a problems for defenders, hence Vancouver has a greater chances of scoring and winning games. which ever it is he'll get his share of goals, but his impact on games will leave a noticeable mark. And according to the coach it appears that Mattocks is now the starter over Hassli. I can't imagine what this will further do to his already burgeoning self confidence.
A true Jamaican to heart, wanting to be better than everybody in their craft. Reminding me of myself when I went to a Junior college as a defender and the first time a gather with the players before practice a told the forwards midfielders dat them ca pass me. Of course them all laff that a little rookie a roun off him mouth.
We had Yard man, South Americans, Africans, Haitians, Italians etc ballas on the team. They took my challenge one after the other and a tek wey ball from all a them easily. Using guile and my body fi tek wey them ball; never had to go on the groung fi tackle. Mi earn dem respect that day. At the end of two years the Italian coach sey I'm best defender he has ever had on his team from all the years he's being coaching. Mattocks kinda remind a that.
Him kon have to worry bout him place on the R'Boyz cause no forwards currently on the team has scored many goals. No forwards on the team have the kind of freshness, electricity, have that something to prove mentality as Mattocks does now. What if he hadn't being out for six weeks, no telling how goals he would have already scored.
He's just a man possess right now and that's what they're saying about him, here are some quotes:
"One thing about him is he creates chances," Vancouver coach Martin Rennie said. "Today he created maybe four, five or six chances. If he gets consistent with his finish he can score a lot of goals".
“The whole stadium can see it,” veteran goalkeeper Joe Cannon said of the dynamic Mattocks provides.
“I think it’s just the tip of the iceberg for him. With his speed, he’s just going to keep getting better. Nothing surprises me with him. I really hold him in high regard and it would be great to see him not only play here, but maybe move on [to Europe].”
-------------------------------------------------------------- We don't need Darren for Antigua, as I said we should leave him alone and let him fully focus on destroying a few more MLS clubs on Saturdays and then we can unleash the beastat the office September 7th against the USA. of course we want to bring him in August to play the friendly so he can gell with the team.
Mattocks has now serve notice on all on our front men in the squad that dem place is not secure. Fuller & Shelton are safe because they are runners, a different dimension from a target man, of which Mattocks is. However, Johnson, Cummings, King, Stewart all have to beware.
If anything Mattocks rise will only further push these four to produce more for Club. Mattocks want to be in the squad for the HEX, for Brazil, and he's fighting like mad to get there.
Someone has said Stewart is showing a similar drive as a forward. All and all there's nothing like a young gun coming in giving the veterans a run fi dem money; i'm just loving it.
I'm praying that Grandison, Senoir, Rohan Reid & Virgo would developed the same spirit of, I won't be denied. That when they get their opportunity they need to lose all fear and grab the bull by the horn and don't let go.
All Grandison him, since we lacking attacking/creative midfielders when he gets his opportunity he need to play bigger than himself. Box to box mi a talk bout my yute, show guile, creativity and the nuances of a typical creative middle man; and of course be able to thread a needle pass or two.
Until then unnu haffi ride di pine; until unnu can outplay Rudi & Jason who have experience and all that on unnu, there's no chance to get game over them. If unnu ca tek at least 20 minutes of game time from these two unnu not ready fi dis.
Right now Mattocks who's not yet even on the team has taken at least half of our starting forwards game time a ready, think about that. And he has surpass the ones coming of the bench....

Kick Off: Mattocks terrorizes Dynamo, solidifies starting spot June 11, 2012 Andrew Wiebe MLSsoccer.com Getty Images
Darren Mattocks isn’t wasting any time making up for lost opportunities. So much so that he could be muscling one his more highly regarded teammates into a spot on the bench.
A little over a month after returning from a cooking accident that left burns over much of his right arm, Mattocks tormented Houston in a 3-1 Vancouver victory at BC Place, scoring twice to record his third goal in two games and firmly putting his freakish setback in the past. (VIDEO)
And for the time being, at least, it appears the 21-year-old Jamaican has wrested the starting spot from Designated Player Eric Hassli, who has struggled to find his form in front of net.
At least that’s the word in Vancouver, where Mattocks' teammates came out in force in praise of their rookie striker’s all-around ability and explosiveness.
“The whole stadium can see it,” goalkeeper Joe Cannon said. “All of a sudden, a slip-up at the back, or a missed touch ... and it’s not only his speed. He has great jumping ability and he’s a great athlete. He just tracks things down and he works hard. He makes the defenders be honest and it’s great.
“I think it’s just the tip of the iceberg for him. With his speed, he’s just going to keep getting better. Nothing surprises me with him. I really hold him in high regard and it would be great to see him not only play here, but maybe move on [to Europe].”
Even more encouraging for the 'Caps was that another youngster, midfielder Gershon Koffie, was the man springing Mattocks for chance after chance, earning the assist on Vancouver's second goal and showing a creative spark that had captain Jay DeMerit hoping for more from the Ghanaian.
"Gersh has always been a fantastic prospect," DeMerit said after the match. "He's shown at certain times how good he can be, but tonight he put together a 90-plus minute performance and we talk about consistency and how players develop and that's a huge sign of development, when you can perform for 90 minutes and stay consistent. The bad thing for him is now that he's set that standard, so hopefully we can get that every week."
The Dynamo will surely know what to look for when they come up in the young Jamaican in the future. What they will want to avoid is allowing another early goal, one Dominic Kinnear said gave Mattocks the space he needed to continue to put pressure on Houston as the game progressed.
“When you go down a goal in the first five minutes of the game, it does open you up,” he told MLSsoccer.com by phone after the match. “We didn’t start the game so great and pushing up it created space in behind Darren Mattocks and he becomes a dangerous player.”
