While I am very please to hear about all the plans laid out for our preparation for the upcoming WCQ, I think Burrell owe it to the nation a full explanation and/or an apology to what took place in Trinidad on May of last year, regarding his association in the cash-for-vote scandal that lead to his (3) months of being ban from taking part in anything that had to deal with FIFA. Even if it was because he "allegedly" refused to squeal, that is all speculations. And, therefore he needs to clear the air, by giving a full explanation or an apology, relating to this matter. Which did not go unnoticed.
Also, will he appeal the remainder of his deferred (2) years ban, to prove his innocence?
He used the press conference as a vehicle to side step giving an apology and/or an explanation, by announcing all these well needed and awaited information that the public earnestly awaits, In regards to knowing the direction our nation's football programme was heading. He deliberately starved us from these activities, of friendlies and recruitment of top quality players available to our disposal, then return with dangling all these information and promises in front of the eyes of the public, in an attempt to avoid giving the country an apology and/or explanation.
He should be ashame of himself for the example he is teaching our youths of Jamaica and the Caribbean. Sending the wrong message that it is ok to be dishonest.
Do we have a dishonest leader in Captain Burrell leading our country's national football fraternity, does anyone know for sure if his suspension was fairly due or not...???
2. Can he explain what happened in the cash-for-vote scandal if he wasn't involved?
3. How can we be sure he accepted the $40,000? Or was it $400,000???
4. Is it Guilty until proven innocent or Innocent until proven guilty? : whistle:
Go back and reread my post before you ask me those question... it's save to assume you have the abilities of (1) reading: critical interpretation of texts. (2) critical thinking: interpret and evaluate complex texts, which this one wasn't complex.
I will answer only your third question by saying, that is why he needs to address the nation and explain what really happen.
While I am very please to hear about all the plans laid out for our preparation for the upcoming WCQ, I think Burrell owe it to the nation a full explanation and an apology to what took place in Trinidad on May of last year, regarding his association in the cash-for-vote scandal that lead to his (3) months of being ban from taking part in anything that had to deal with FIFA. This forum was the first to report Burrell's post press conference, when I posted the thread immediately after he wrapped up his speech, and no where in listening to the press conference did I hear Burrell gave an apology or explain what took place, but brushed all questions pertaining to the scandal to the side. However, this reporter said he did...so I thought I must have missed that in the beginning of his speech....
Burrell: CFU has learned
Burrell - File
KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC):
Horace Burrell apologised on behalf of members of the Caribbean Football Union for their involvement in the cash-for-votes bribery scandal involving former FIFA presidential candidate, Mohamed bin Hammam.
The Jamaica Football Federation president was speaking at a media conference on Tuesday, two days after his three-month suspension from the game instituted by the sport's World governing body, FIFA, ended.
Burrell and several other leading CFU officials were either suspended, fined or reprimanded by FIFA following a meeting last May in Trinidad, where it is alleged that bin Hamman offered US $40,000 and other gifts to each association to support him against incumbent Sepp Blatter in last June's FIFA presidential elections.
"Everyone that attended that meeting last May in Trinidad regrets it," said Burrell.
"It is not something that we are happy about. In fact, we would have preferred not to have gone."
He added: "Having said that, it is now through the window, and we plan to move forward positively.
"Also, one has to understand that in life events will occur, and we should learn from them."
The scandal led to bin Hammam being banned from the sport for life and former FIFA Vice-President Austin 'Jack' Warner, the former CONCACAF and CFU president, resigning in disgrace.
Burrell said he was now eager to get back to running the JFF and moving the sport forward in the island.
"It's indeed a very pleasant day for me because coming off a three-month layoff, returning to office is really pleasant," said Burrell.
"I'm back with renewed energy and will give Jamaica the 'full hundred' first and foremost. My first priority is to give Jamaica my full focus, CFU, CONCACAF and FIFA will come after."
Burrell said corporate Jamaica was elated at his return to the helm of the local administration, and he would be making a big sponsorship announcement in

He was elected to be our national football leader, to lead with "Integrity," not as a mafia, gangster, politician or whatever you so chosen fit for his title, "gaddafi, cornadon/worldboss" whatever!
Therefore, consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes, is what his leadership is required of him. Moral Soundness, Unbroken!!!!
In addition, we expects to find in him the common honesty and integrity of a man of business.
Furthermore, I wouldn't want to see him end up like other "worldboss or cornadon" as you call it, such as, Vybz Kartel or Dudus, et al., but this is football we're addressing here so lets remain focus on the matter that applies on hand. Football.
Burrell should apologize and/or explain to the nation what took place in Trinidad, that lead to him being suspended, so that his name could be cleared from being mentioned in the corruption of the cash-for-vote scandal. imo

Blessed Love...
I shared the 'inside' story with you because it is only now that Cayman's role and involvement in FIFA/CONCACAF politricks is coming out to the world football community.
To most ites, because Cayman is a 'likkle small island', dem wudda overlook the bigger picture of the political game...wen mi first come pon di forum, mi addressed the issue and den lef it but now, its back in the limelight.
You must acknowledge, FIFA IS MIGHTILY CORRUPT, and the CONCACAF/Caribbean administrators, the top don dem, have had to function in this environment... You cannot fairly hold them to any higher standards than their FIFA colleagues, who, along with them, run the world game.
Burrell answered the relevant question at the start of this scandal, he maintained that he did not take any cash that was offered...Webb has not answered that question...but the question has been answered.
Warner and Frederick, immediately retiring from all football activities, also answers the question of guilt, in their cases...if this had been criminal law, and not FIFA's CORRUPT SYSTEM THAT ALLOWED BOTH OF THEM TO RETIRE, NO QUESTION ASKED, then retiring would not have protected them from investigation and prosecution, if any crime was found to have been committed.
Burrell has answered all the questions...he was banned for refusing to travel to Miami to meet with investigators.
He' back, Jeffrey Webb will more than likely be head of CONCACAF and things will have to move on...despite the criminality that exists within FIFA.

One possible reason why things are not going according to plans is there never was a plan
“Even if some of the sanctions are very severe, I understand that FIFA needs to put an end to individual wrongdoing and bad practice if the evidence proves that individuals have engaged in reprehensible conduct,” Burrell said in a statement.
The JFF president was remorseful as he said his initial decision not to co-operate with the foreign investigators was an error on his part.
“Those of us who live the Caribbean reality will understand my reluctance, while people who are unfamiliar with our Caribbean history will take offence, which is what happened, and for which I now suffer the consequences.”
“A majority of the Caribbean football officials who had participated at the CFU meeting in Port of Spain had objected to the initial interviews being conducted outside of the Caribbean. This was consequent to the many statements emanating from the different sides and the lack of clarity on how the investigations were to be conducted.
“The outcry against that original procedure was such that the venue was eventually changed and hearings were set for the Caribbean, in Nassau, Bahamas. Looking back, I have tried to see the reasoning behind the original approach, as it was put forward to us by CONCACAF and FIFA; and despite the fact that I have now suffered the consequences for my original assessment, I maintain that it was the right thing to do to protest against the fact that CFU members were ordered to a territory outside of the Caribbean to be questioned and testify. I accept that I possibly decided to co-operate with the investigation too late, but that was my decision at the time and I stand by it while, accepting the sanction which resulted from my lack of cooperation in the initial phase of the investigation,” Burrell said.
As I have said b4 CFU alone cannot bear this cross of repairing FIFA’s image and the rest of the FIFA go free.
Caribbean history and how and where the investigation was held are irrelevant to those who want to know the following which any mic toting journalist can ask.
Did you participate in this scheme at any level?
What exactly was your involvement?
Were you given notice b4 the bribe meeting at the hotel that this was going down?
Did you or associate with anyone encouraging attendees to take a bribe?
In lieu of bribe were you promised enticing non-monetary rewards or positions of higher office pending a successful outcome?
What would you have done differently Before an investigation was called.
Those are some questions that can be answered from anywhere even out of space with or without a history major.
Last week Captain Horace Burrell’s ban that was imposed by FIFA was lifted. The six-month ban, three months of which were suspended, plus two years’ probation, was punishment for what football world’s governing body deemed to be his role in the cash for votes scandal that hit the FIFA presidential campaign last year May.
Captain Burrell returned to announce upcoming match schedules and a new deal with sportswear company Kappa, but as far as the scandal was concerned he was mum. According to the JFF President the matter is closed. I disagree.
When Captain Burrell took the job as president of the Jamaica Football Federation, he not only took on the job to represent all the football associations across the island, he also took on the responsibility of being Jamaica’s representative for football. This is a man who will want us to come out in support of the national football team when they’re playing at ‘The Office’. That is one of the ways in which the JFF raises money to carry out its business. In a manner, Jamaicans –sponsors and spectators –are shareholders of the national programme; without them there is no JFF.
So when Captain Burrell says the matter is closed, it is a slap in the face of Jamaican sponsors and public. If you campaign for a job then there are certain responsibilities that you should be aware of and one of those is accountability. Jamaicans need to know the details behind why Captain Burrell was suspended, why he remains on two years’ probation, and why Horace Reid, the General Secretary, was warned. Jamaicans need to know if anyone from Jamaica got money from Mohammed Bin Hammam during those meetings in Trinidad last year May, because we have the right to know if Captain Burrell and the members of his executive are acting in the best interest of Jamaica’s football or in their own best interests.
Coming off a three-month ban and declining to divulge relevant details but wanting unconditional support for the national programme is nothing short of disrespectful, brazen disrespect. There are those who will see nothing wrong as seems to be the case with Caribbean Football Union delegates, who Captain Burrell will be lobbying for help in his bid to become president. However, who those of us who will invest tens of thousands of Jamaican dollars and large portions of human emotion, for that support to come, the Captain needs to come clean.
Let the public determine whether he deserves forgiveness and a second chance. Jamaicans need; no deserve to know whether or not Captain Burrell and the members of his executive can be trusted. They don’t deserve to have acceptance rammed down their throats..

I fully concur with this article. I have always felt that something was terrible wrong when a business (Captain’s Bakery) could be a sponsor of football in a particular jurisdiction and its owner is the president of JFF, who also simultaneously relies on support from said jurisdiction when seeking the JFF presidency. Am I the only one who sees this as a serious conflict of interest??
As to the FIFA debacle, Burrell HAS NO MORAL AUTHORITY to continue as JFF president. If he continues in this position, then regardless of what he says, THE ONLY INTERPRETATION to be gleaned is that he is a self-centred individual, and it’s really all about him and self promotion and nothing to do with Jamaica’s football!!
What was so hard inna dot....yah mon gi wi ah explanation n mek wi decide when wi fi done wid di ting...now guh get Tappa di big balla dem mentioned, ah mek wi gwaan strengthen the team fi Brazil 2014 from now.
Squeaky clean! - Burrell distances JFF from CFU bribery scandal....published in the Jamaica Observer by a "Ghost" writer.
Wednesday, February 01, 2012
JAMAICA Football Federation (JFF) president Captain Horace Burrell, in a bid to end the sordid episode of his recent three-month FIFA suspension, yesterday reiterated that neither himself nor his administration benefited from the US$40,000 during the controversial meeting in Trinidad.
Having first shunned details of how events unfolded last May, claiming the matter had been declared closed by the world governing body FIFA, Captain Burrell gave details following a press conference at Stewart's Auto Sales last evening.
"I did not benefit from any monetary gain from that meeting in Trinidad, neither did Bruce Gaynor (my vice-president who attended), neither did Horace Reid (general secretary), or Jamaica. So none of us benefited from any monetary gains," he declared.
Burrell returned to the job at midnight on Saturday, January 14 after serving a three-month ban imposed by FIFA's Ethics Committee last October for unspecified violations related to the cash-for-votes scandal that threatened to topple regional football.
Burrell, along with a number of high-ranking Caribbean Football Union (CFU) officials, received suspensions in a sweeping move by FIFA, following a meeting in Trinidad last May when FIFA presidential candidate Mohammed bin Hammam met with the CFU membership and was accused of offering US$40,000, plus other gifts, to each association to support him against the incumbent Sepp Blatter in the June elections.
Burrell still has three months suspension.
"Initially we did not fully cooporate with the investigators, because not many people wanted to cooporate. But after a while we realised that it was important to co-oporate and clear the air and I have said in a release before that it was a mistake not to have cooperated with it at the very onset," he explained.
"I want to put this to bed, none of us benefited from the U$40,000, our country never benefited and it is now time to move on and I hope you all understand that it was unfortunate that we did not fully cooporate during the initial stages of the investigation. But I don't want to get into any further details because you have to understand that there are other matters, and some people have made appeals and so on."
Burrell, the CFU senior vice-president and CONCACAF member, lost his place on FIFA's Disciplinary Committee during the period of his suspension, but he has revealed that he has been reappointed to another FIFA committee, which will be made public in short order.
"I have been a member of that (FIFA disciplinary) committee for in excess of 12 years, and within a matter of days a new committee will be announced and I expect that I will be on another committee in the next 48 hours," he said.
He explained that when the present FIFA Disciplinary Committee was being finalised he was still on suspension and was not eligible for the position.
"At the time of appointing the committees I was on the suspension list, so it would have been difficult (to get appointed) at that time.
"However, people will not stay on committees forever and I was the second most senior person on that (disciplinary) committee of 20 and people change after every two appointments and I have served in excess of three appointments with the last appointment ending in December," he said.
'We did not fully cooperate'
Published: Wednesday | February 1, 2012. Ryon Jones, Gleaner Writer
CAPTAIN Horace Burrell, president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), says the six-month ban that was imposed on him by FIFA's Ethics Committee last October happened because of his initial refusal to cooperate with its investigations into the matter.
Burrell resumed leadership of the JFF on January 15 after sitting out three months of a FIFA ban, with the other three deferred to a two-year probationary period.
The ban was for Burrell's reported ethics violation in relation to the alleged Caribbean Football Union (CFU) cash-for-votes bribery scandal in Trinidad and Tobago last year, in which former FIFA presidential candidate, Mohamed bin Hammam, was said to have offered bribes of US$40,000 to several CFU officials in return for votes.
"That is a closed matter, but I want to use this opportunity since, obviously, many people are not sure," said Burrell.Thank you fi di explanation sir, kauze I did wha know wha'ppen
"I did not benefit from any monetary gain from that meeting in Trinidad, neither did Bruce Gaynor, my vice-president who attended, neither Horace Reid (JFF general secretary), neither Jamaica, so none of us benefited from any monetary gains," Burrell stated following yesterday's handover ceremony of two vehicles to the federation by Stewart's Auto Sales at their showroom.
Burrell reasoned that his suspension arose from his failure to initially cooperate with investigations, which violated the football world governing body's code of ethics.
"Initially, we did not fully cooperate with the investigators. No one wanted to cooperate, but after a while we realised that it was important to cooperate and to clear the air, which was done," Burrell shared.
I recall the day vividly... when news article came out with Mr. Jack Warner publicly announced the intend of the CONCACAF, it goes something like this.. there will be only one unified vote by CONCACAF. A red flag stood out with this alarmingly announcement. Since when did CONCACAF members just casting one single vote for cadidates? It's smell rotten from the get go and am not surprise the embarrassment that transpired after. All a bunch of fools if you ask me. Unethical and Mr. Warner didn't think this through before him bring the proposal to the Caribbean members. Are Caribbean members that desperate and low class to sell them souls and put them countries and the region on a whole through this scandal over $40,0000US? The good that he (Warner) did (more WCup chances etc), while he was president of CONCACAF will now be smear to his death and beyond by this scandalous, embarrassing incident. Some people just frighten over money and power. What wrong with dying poor with dignity and respect?
I'll conclude by saying the only thing Mr. Burrell is guilty of is not putting his fellow CONCACAF members in a wolf pack. He might know or saw what taking place, but decide to plea the 5th. FIFA settle the matter and construct a plan going forward. Lets the region learn and grow from this disgraceful situation.
