Stewart poised for loan switch
Defender set to leave Bristol City on short-term deal


Skysports.com understands a number of clubs are hoping to sign Bristol City defender Damion Stewart on loan.

The 31-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Ashton Gate this season having made just three appearances.

Stewart is likely to move on loan in January with Huddersfield Town, Preston and Notts County all holding an interest.

All three League One clubs believe the experienced stopper will bolster their ranks, with Huddersfield pushing for promotion in the play-off places.

Stewart spent four years with QPR before joining the Robins in 2010 and has earned 55 caps for Jamaica.

Sky Sports understands Notts County have agreed a deal to sign Bristol City defender Damion Stewart on loan.

Magpies boss Martin Allen is believed to have beaten off interest from a number of clubs to land Stewart.

Stewart has found himself well down the pecking order at Ashton Gate this season and Robins boss Derek McInnes is happy to loan him out.

The Jamaica international has been keen to move on in search of first-team action and he will now link up with County.

Stewart is believed to have agreed a loan deal until the end of the season at Meadow Lane.

Clubs eye Marshall move

Skysports.com understands Barnet star Mark Marshall is being chased by a host of clubs in this month's transfer window.

The 24-year-old has been an impressive performer for Barnet since joining from Swindon Town in the summer of 2010.

Charlton and Bournemouth both saw bids rejected for Marshall in the summer transfer window and Barnet are facing another fight to fend off interest in the flying winger.

Portsmouth, Leeds and West Ham are all thought to be keeping tabs on Marshall as they look to bolster their attacking options this month.

Marshall's current deal expires in the summer and Barnet could decide to cash in on him rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

Marshall's adviser, Saif Rubie, has admitted there is a lot of interest in his client and that a move could be on the cards this month.

"I would expect a lot of interest in Mark this month as his performances over the last 18 months have been very good," Rubie told skysports.com.

"Two clubs saw bids rejected for him in the summer and I know a lot of clubs are watching him and weighing up moves for him this month.

"Mark is out of contract in the summer and if he doesn't leave in January he will see out his contract and leave in the summer."

Red Bulls manager Eric Soler has said that he expects Jamaican international Dane Richards to remain with Major League Soccer's (MLS) New York Red Bulls as they have been no offers for the services of the winger.

Richards has been a revelation for the MLS team for the last two seasons, showing an impressive blend of speed perhaps best illustrated by a play, which received a goal of the year nominee, an impressive solo run against Portland. The players has registered 7 goals and 7 assists for the New York team this season and has often expressed a desire to hone his skill in Europe.

However, despite speculation linking the winger with a move away from the club, according to Soler, the 28-year-old Montego native will have to keep waiting for that opportunity.

"Not to me. I haven't had a single request for Dane," the manager was quoted as saying on the New York Red Bulls website BigApple-Soccer.com.

"I agree with the fact he has done very well. But there has not been any interest."

During an impressive spell, Richards has come in for commendation from New York team and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Henry will head to his former English Premier League club for a two-month loan spell, while Richards is expected to join the team when the team's training camp begins next week, ahead of the 2012 MLS season which begins in March. Soler was, however, pleased with keeping the team, who lost to the LA Galaxy in the Conference semi-final, together.

"We seem to have been able to keep nearly everyone, which was a target for us," Soler said.

"The window is still open, so you can never be 100 per cent, but it looks like we can keep the whole starting 11 plus three or four or five others who played the most games. As I said, [the team is looking] to find a starting central defender that can add some quality to that position."
