TUCKER, St James — Second-round champions Montego Bay United (MBU) have strengthened their already strong line-up as they make a push for the Red Stripe Premier League title in their first season with the signing of Bahamian national player Lesley St Fleur.
The Haitian-born player who is expected in the island this weekend is one of five new players that will join the Montego Bay outfit ahead of their game next Wednesday against Boys' Town at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
St Fleur, who previously represented Sporting Central Academy, will rejoin MBU coach Neider Dos Santos, who guided him on the Bahamian Olympic and senior national teams.
Orville Powell, president of MBU, yesterday confirmed with the Sunday Observer the signing of St Fleur, as well as former national midfielder Davion Thorpe of Reno, who are among the club's five new signings.
Powell said the signing of these players "will give us a lot more options, especially on the offensive end of the field".
Powell said one of the team's biggest problems was "we are not finishing the chances we create and hopefully, we will do much better in the third round".
St Fleur and Thorpe will join the likes of Mauracio Gordon, who has scored eight goals; Allan Ottey and Leon Irving, who have scored five each, as well as Kemiro James and Omar Gordon.
MBU, who are unbeaten in 13 straight games, including the End-of-Round final, are the most prolific outfit in the league with 32 goals, two more than fifth-placeD Humble Lion, but have also conceded 23, the most in the top seven.
Powell also confirmed they had released a number of players to other teams to keep a reasonable-sized squad.

CATHERINE HALL, St James — Montego Bay United's Brazillian coach Neider Dos Santos is happy the team has achieved one of its goals — reaching the top six in the points table of the Red Stripe Premier League and enhancing their chances of bidding for the title.
End-of-second-round champions Montego Bay extended their unbeaten run to 15 games after being held to a 0-0 draw by Boys' Town in their third round game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Wednesday evening.

Montego Bay United are in sixth place on 33 points, tied with seventh-placed Harbour View, but with a superior goal difference. They are two points behind fifth-placed Humble Lion.
Dos Santos admitted the one point was not what they had set out to achieve at home, but told the Observer, "We tried hard to win this game up to the end... but we're now in the top six and we hope to stay there. We deserved to win this game."
Looking at the positives, Dos Santos said while they had fixed some problems from their match against Tivoli Gardens where they conceded two goals, they still needed to convert but pointed out that the RSPL was "a very difficult league to win", pointing to Harbour View's earlier defeat to lowly-placed Highgate United.
Boys' Town coach Andrew Price said his team had not fully recovered from playing a tough KSAFA Jackie Bell Knock-Out semi-final game against Harbour View on Sunday, then having to travel to Montego Bay for a tough game.
He said his team "got stronger in the second half" after the players "took a bit longer to warm up and we were under pressure in the first 20 minutes".
Boys' Town appeared to be slowing the game down in the first 30 minutes, taking longer than usual to convert spot kicks and throw-ins, but Price said this was not their plan.
MBU had a double chance to score late in the first half but Boys' Town goalkeeper Kirk Porter blocked a shot from the left side and Mouracio Gordon hit the post with the rebound.
Leon Irving then steered a header just wide as time ran out in the first half.
Boys' Town dominated possession in the second half and created the two best chances. Shane Edwards just missed putting them ahead in the 57th, but missed the target by inches after picking up a cross from Marvin Stewart.
MBU's goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett came off his line in the 63rd to force Daemon Benjamin to shoot wide after he was sent through down the middle of the opponents' defence.
MBU gradually took over the game and created several late scoring chances, but Gordon missed badly from point-blank in the 80th and opted to go for the top left-hand corner of the goal in the 87th, despite having three teammates in front of the goal whom he could pass to.

Bahamian St Fleur blooms in MoBay United's win Published: Tuesday | March 6, 2012 0 Comments
Adrian Frater, News Editor
WESTERN BUREAU:
Bahamian striker Lesly St Fleur made a memorable debut for Montego Bay United Football Club (MBUFC) on Sunday night, when he scored once and set up the other goal in the team's 2-0 win over Village United in the 2011-12 Red Stripe Premier League western derby at the Montego Bay Stadium in St James.
The win, MBUFC's first in the competition's third round, lifted them into the top six of the 12-team competition as they improved their points tally to 38. Village United, who were losing for the 17th time in 28 games, remain rooted at the bottom of the standings on 21.
"Lesly (St Fleur) made the difference out there tonight ... he brought a lot of sharpness to our attack," said MBUFC's coach, Neider Dos Santos, who previously coached St Fleur when he marshalled the Bahamas national team.
He added: "We are still making some silly mistakes in defence so we have to continue working hard to fix that problem."
Village United, which must have left the venue cursing their luck after missing several easy chances - primarily through national player Dino Williams - perplexed coach Danilo Barrigga.
Chances to win
"We got enough chances to have won this game easily, but we were not sharp enough before the goal," said Barrigga. "We have a lot of work to do on the training ground to address our finishing."
MBUFC dominated the early exchanges with St Fleur running the Village United defence ragged on the right flank. However, he fell prey to lack of quality support as Mauracio Gordon wasted two good early openings the Bahamian created.
They also wasted the easiest of chances when St Fleur traded passes with Jermaine Woozencroft inside the goal area, but the latter kicked high with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
Midway the half, Village United came into their own and went close to scoring twice, the easier opportunity coming in the 30th minute, when Williams broke clean on goal, but was denied by a fantastic save by goalkeeper Jacomena Barrett. The rebound fell to Ronaldo Rodney, who booted over the crossbar.
MoBay United took the lead in the 41st minute. After splitting the defence with a sharp dribble, St Fleur was brought down, but the ball rolled to Graeme Green, who slotted home, making the half-time score 1-0.
Mobay controlled the pace for the vast majority of the second half and were further rewarded with a goal in the 88th minute, when St Fleur pounced before goal and made the final score 2-0.
Midfielder Jamoly Powell's 78th minute wonder strike continued Sporting Central Academy's amazing Red Stripe Premier League third-round resurgence, beating Montego Bay United 1-0 at Brancourt on Sunday.
After five games this round, Sporting Central are unbeaten with three wins and two draws. The 11 points mined at this stage is one more than the entire amount they collected in the second round. Their overall tally of 38 points is now the same as MoBay United and good enough for joint seventh spot overall.
Fleur hardly had an impact as he was staved of good service from midfield. In the second half when he noticeably stayed back, Sporting simply created pressure by hogging the wings.
Keith Kelly's entrance in the 63rd minute tilted the attacking balance towards the home side, leaving MoBay United's Brazillian coach Neider dos Santos to probably incorrectly substitute midfielder Richard Orrett, who had himself come on as a substitute for an injured player in the first half.
Despite the defensive error by national left fullback Troy Smith from which Sporting created the opportunity for their goal, the quality was so magnificent that Santos admitted "it was a beautiful strike".
After initially chesting down Ricardo Israel's aerial pass, Powell then got off a left-footer -the connection on the ball allowing it to to swerve right and back, expertly dodging Barrett's grasp before hitting the right upright and diverting into goal at the opposite end.
He later told The Gleaner he knew it was coming.
"I just felt it was going to come. All my shots before were off target and as I saw the ball I said to myself, 'I am gonna hit this one right'. Our manager had spoken to me before the game so I knew I was going to play confident."
The goal was so good that the MoBay goalkeeper, Jacomena Barrett, who had delighted with several acrobatic stops, gave a handclap.
It was Powell's third goal in the league this season, but his second against MoBay.
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon —Lesly St Fleur made a disappointing return to Brancourt as Montego Bay United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sporting Central Academy in Sunday's Red Stripe Premier League game in Clarendon.
The speedy Bahamian striker, once a crowd favourite at Sporting, endured a frustrating afternoon as he was not only starved of good service, but was also subject to constant taunts from the fans who used to adore his every move.
And if his night could not get any worse, he had to watch as Jamoly Powell stole the spotlight with a sublime left-footed volley, which stunned another ex-Sporting player Jacomeno Barrett in goal for MoBay on 77 minutes.
The crafty midfielder's shot, a goal of the season candidate, ended a period of sustained pressure from the hosts, who had defender Akeem Annakie ejected for two bookable offences in the 89th minute.
It was a deserved win for Sporting, who should have added the gloss to the result with further goals from substitute Owen Gordon and striker Francois Swaby.
Irrespective of the scoreline, the Clarendon side will be pleased to be rediscovering semblance of the first-round form which saw them rubbing shoulders with the elites in the top half of the 12-team league.
They have now gone five games unbeaten -- earning 11 points from a possible 15 --since coach Nigel Stewart took over from Vassell Reynolds last month and are just one point adrift of the top six, having leapfrogged Arnett Gardens (36) into eighth place, while also moving 13 points clear of the relegation places.

National regulars K. Moodie couldn't make it off the MBU bench, while T. Smith entered the game in the 46th min and gave away the winning goal in the 77th min of play...um!!
This MBU team must be stacked with good players why our national regulars can't even start/get off the bench..

It seems that the coach did not start his top players since Ottey, Smith and Moodie were all on the bench to start the match.
MBU made a tremendous run in the 2nd round but now they need to prove that they are a top 6 team in the RSPL.
Remember, they were playing in the Western Super League at this time last year, so a top 6 finish in the RSPL would be a significant improvement in less than 12 months.

Indeed Jamatl, that would be an accomplishment for the team if they finish the season as one of the top six teams.
Anyway, reading from the media's report, Ottey for the most part was used as an substitute b4 his fine run of being the team's supper-sub, then he got to start in a few games b4 the Bahamian came in and it seems he was then demoted back to the reserve bench...
Also, I highly doubt it that, that was the plan of the MBU coach not to start the other two national presents, just to rest them or for game tactics, as you've suggested, my believe is that they are not playing up to par.
You would think the coach would want to continue his winning/undefeated streak and use the best players that are in form and can help to provide good results.
Myself and others on this forum site, have also said in another post that these players, Moodie and Smith aren't good enough for national selection and therefore, they should be making way for Tappa to use there spots for other useful resource, because they are only taking up space, including bigga Thompson, shorty Edwards and N. Boyd
At the Catherine Hall Complex, Humble Lion came from behind and beat home team Montego Bay United 2-1 and jumped into third spot on 46 points.
Omar Gordon had given Montego Bay United a 19th minute lead but Wolry Wolfe equalised for Humble Lion in the 67th minute before Lenworth Hyde Jnr found the clincher in the 90+1 minute.
Montego Bay United which was losing for the third time at home and 10th overall, slipped to eighth place with 38 points
MBU beat my side PMU in sec end of rd final then fall flat... Boys Town upset PMU @ home 4-2 then turn around and draw with village who's on life support now..
Mr seaga pls mail the RSPL Trophy to Braeton rd prunto.

Montego Bay United came close but in the end missed out on a coveted spot in the Red Stripe Premier League's top six yesterday despite a 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
A late goal at Brancourt from former champions Harbour View carried them to 46 points, three clear of Montego Bay, and ensured that they secured the final spot. The Stars of the East, Montego Bay and Arnett began the day with ambitions of making the spot their own. However, finding themselves some 18 points clear of the relegation with five games remaining, recently promoted Montego Bay, who ended in seventh position, have very little cause for concern.
Former Arnett youth player Omar Gordon returned to inflict damage on his former team late on, netting in the 83rd minute. Graeme Green had opened the scoring for visitors in the 29th and Jonathan Williams had pulled Arnett level in the 75th minute.
The visiting Montego Bay had looked the more dangerous team in the first half and with nippy spells of position often managed to rip the Arnett back line wide open. Green profited from just such a move to put the visitors in front, collecting the ball just outside the area before cutting inside his marker and firing past Arnett custodian Damion Hyatt.
Leslie St Fleur should have extended the lead from a sweeping counter-attack, but having collected an incisive through pass from Kemiro James lifted his shot on to the crossbar in the 35th minute.
Arentt, however, began the second half with a lot more enterprise and pushed the visitors, who seemed to lose their way, on the back foot. Striker Leon Stickland's close-range effort which came back into play off the unaware custodian Jacomena Barrett typified an improved effort. From another set-piece only a few minutes later Arnett made good on their threat to equalise as Newton Sterling's bullet header from a corner was parried back out on to the boot of Williams, who poked the ball into the back of the net.
Arnett caught
Arnett were, however, caught out once again as another counter-attack was finished off by Gordon from five yards out. More late counter-attacking chances fell to substitute Allan Ottey, who fired wide of the target in the 86th minute and Green, who unbelievably scooped the ball over the bar from five yards out.
"I think we were very solid today, it was a good game and we deserved three points," Montego Bay's coach Neider dos Santos said.
"We closed them down, but their main threat came from set-pieces to Sterling (Newton) who is big, strong and good in the air, we couldn't have done much about the goal. But we had many opportunities and deserved the win."
Arnett Gardens coach Paul Davis was not only disappointed with result but also with his team's showing in the first period.
"We were very lethargic in the first half, the team approached the game almost like a training session," he said.
"The result was disappointing but we just need to win one or two more games, perhaps give some of the younger players a chance."
On 42 points Arnett are eighth but 17 points clear of the relegation zone.
