What is going on with Shavar Thomas in MLS?
He leaves Chivas USA and gets stifled with the Philadelphia Union. He gets trade to Sporting KC and signs a new contract, now he is not even in the starting XI.
At 30 years old, he should have enough caps for a UK work permit but I he lacks the pace to play in the fast English games.

Sporting KC notebook
Collin, Júlio César likely to stay at center back
As red cards and injuries mounted through the first five games of the season, the two defensive constants for Kansas City were Jimmy Nielsen and Matt Besler.
That changed against the New York a little more than a week ago, when Aurélien Collin and Júlio César manned the center of defense, leaving Besler on the bench for the first time this season. After some struggles for both early on in their Sporting tenures, the duo had a solid game despite the team’s frustrating 1-0 defeat.
All indications are that Sporting will stick with Collin and Júlio César after that performance, but Vermes said the choice to change directions wasn’t an indication of Besler’s play but simply a decision to try a different combination.
“[It was] nothing earth-shattering, just a decision to go that way,” Vermes said....
Shavar has no chance of moving to the U.K. He is a good defender, but he would suffer under the relentless central penetration of the English game, where the ball comes hard and often for the central attackers. Shavar's lack of foot speed and physical power would not help him there. He is neither as strong or as mobile as Claude used to be, or as Damion still is. Plus he is 30, and that does not help.
Nothing is wrong. The team simply doesn't think highly of him. He is very slow and the few times he played for them this year, he didn't play very well.
Shavar will look better playing for Jamaica because he plays in a sweeper role, but once you go to a two man central defense, he gets exposed.
I do think he could play in League One or Two and be very effective. Above that level and he might have problems.

So now this is our national team captain and one of our top central defenders. Jamaica can not afford to have him riding the bench anywhere especially MLS.

Talk to Tappa and Burrell. We need to recruit here, because we are quite thin. They have blacklisted Stew Peas. Claude seems on the outs. Reid does not seem to be able to win and keep a professional contract. Dicoy is improving, but hurt. Taylor is yet to convince against top opposition. Jason Morrison is not a central defender -- don't even go there. I think that the UB40 train needs to be fired up.
The best central defender we have now i hope he can even get something in the championship!!! maybe tranmere rovers the boss would teach him a whole lot...

BRING BACK CARL BROWN EXPERIENCE OVER EXPERIMENT......
Shavar is one of Jamaica's best defenders and him naaw tek no crap from the JFF. I believe that he is that way with his club also and sometimes them give him a timeout.
He will probably be gone soon to free up cap space. he is guaranteed a higher salary than a first or second year player who can occupy the bench just as well.
