Four overseas-based players have been included in Jamaica's 22-man Under-17 for a extended training camp to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from December 15 to January 4, in preparation for the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying Finals to be held in western Jamaica next February.

They are Shane Hardie (USA), Quante Smith (Canada), Shawn Lawson (Canada) and Jevani Brown (United Kingdom).

The four will be joined by local-based Troy Moo-Penn (Manchester High), Nico Campbell (St George's), Omar Holness (Wolmer's), Patrick Palmer (Wolmer's), Romario Williams (Kingston College), Alvas Powell (Paul Bogle), Oshane Jenkins (St George's), Odean Clarke (Muschette), Jason Wright (Wolmer's), Kemo Wallace (Wolmer's), Ramario Thompson (STETHS), Romario Jones (St George's), Andre Lewis (St George's), Jason Jacobs (STETHS), Noel Johnson (Glenmuir), Romane Brown (Muschett), Melvin Blair (Mannings) and Junior Flemmings (Jamaica College).

In Brazil, the players will be involved in eight practice games and a number of training sessions. The aim of the international camp is to allow the players to focus fully on their preparation and to enhance their technical and tactical awareness.

Young Reggae Boyz off to Brazil for training matches for CONCACAF U-17 Champs

Jamaica's national under-17 footballers had a day off from training on Monday but will return for a final session on Tuesday, a day before they leave for a training tour in Brazil.

Jevani Brown of English third tier side MK (Milton Keynes) Dons and Shawn Lawson, son of former national player Jimmy Lawson, are among four overseas-based players in the 22 member young Reggae Boyz squad.

Quante Smith, who like Lawson, is based in Canada, and former Kingston College defender Shane Hardi, who now attends The Taft School in Connecticut, are also included in the squad.

The tour is in preparation for the CONCACAF Under-17 Championships, to be held in Western Jamaica from February 12 to 27.

The young Reggae Boyz will be heading for an eight game training tour of Sao Paulo, Brazil on Wednesday, December 14.

Haiti & Barbados through to CONCACAF U-17 Champs

In the meantime, Haiti and Barbados clinched the last two qualifying spots for the 12 team CONCACAF Under-17 Championships by topping Group "F" of the Caribbean qualifying series in the Dominican Republic.

Haiti registered a 6-0 victory over the Dominican Republic while Barbados turned back Guyana 6-1 to end with six points each in the four team playoff.

In Wednesday's draw for the February 14 to 27 CONCACAF Championship in Jamaica, Haiti and Barbados will be placed in Pot Three along with Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba for the draw, meaning they will be placed with a team from each of Pot One and Pot Two in one of four, three-team groups.

Hosts Jamaica, the United States, Costa Rica and Honduras are the teams in Pot One while Canada, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama are the teams in Pot Two.

One team from each pot will be drawn into one of the four first-round groups.

CONCACAF U-17 draw to be televised live worldwide

Burrell

Jermaine Lannaman, Gleaner Writer

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Captain Horace Burrell, says he is waiting with bated breath for today's group draw ceremony for the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, the region's qualifying tournament for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, which will be held at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa, Montego Bay, St James.

The draw, which will be televised live around the world and is being held for the first time outside of New York, United States, will get under way at 12:30 p.m. and will be conducted by CONCACAF and FIFA officials, including Burrell and Sports Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange.

Historic draw

"It is the first time that the live draw for the tournament is being held outside of New York and I am very delighted, especially given the fact that it will be live on television all over the world," Burrell told The Gleaner yesterday.

"This tournament, in more than one way, is really a very good and welcome change for football development in our country, and by extension the region.

"We anticipate a successful hosting of the tournament, which we hope will generate a lot of interest in youth football development, which is critical at this point," he explained.

The draw, which will be conducted by CONCACAF's deputy general secretary, Ted Howard, and director of marketing and television, Manolo Zubiria, is expected to see the 12 participating countries being chosen on a seeded and non-seeded basis with hosts Jamaica, United States and Canada, expected to lead the way.

The other participating countries will be Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Haiti and Barbados.

The championship will be held at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium, and Catherine Hall Stadium, St James, between February 14-27.
