U-17 hope to start winning streak with US friendlies Wendell Downswell.
Coach of Jamaica's under-17 footballers, Wendell Downswell says they will be hoping to develop a winning habit starting with their two-game friendly series against their USA counterparts at Jarrett Park Thursday.
Both teams are preparing for the World Cup qualifiers in February with the Young Reggae Boyz fresh from their five week training tour of Brazil, where they played ten practice matches.
Downswell says the coaching staff will be using the game to look at different formations but a good result is also important.
“Form is an integral part and it will have a lot to do in terms of our psyche, especially playing against a USA team which is the most formidable team in the region, so a good result against them would serve a as a psychological boost for us,” Downswell said.
Downswell also acknowledged that after a lengthy stay in Brazil, the coaching staff is eager to see just what has been really achieved.
US Coach Gerson Echeverry will also be looking at his team's tactical awareness.
“We don’t know much about Jamaica with this team, but we are going to see quickly they can react and adjust and hopefully to do things well,” Echeverry said.
The game will kick off at 3 pm Thursday with the second set for 6 pm on Sunday.
Jamaica will open their qualifying campaign against Trinidad and Tobago while USA will face Cuba on February 14 at the Trelawny stadium.

In preparation for February's CONCACAF U-17 championship in Jamaica, the United States squad will play two games against the Caribbean nation's youth squad in Montego Bay.
Wilmer Cabrera's team, in Jamaica on an seven-day training trip, has games scheduled for Jan. 27 and Jan. 30.
The group of 20 teenagers — which includes 19 members of the Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla., as well as FC Köln's Matt Dunn, who has been training with the U-17 side — made the trip, including Jordan Allen, Zach Carroll, Christian Duarte and Jack McBean, who joined for winter semester.
Center backs Andrew Souders and Mobi Fehr lead the back line while Dunn, Esteban Rodriguez and Tarik Salkicic will figure prominently in the midfield. Mario Rodriguez, one of the American's most impressive performers during the Nike International Friendlies, will look to provide the goal-scoring punch.

They'll play Cuba on the 14th and Panama two days later. The top two teams advance into the quarterfinals, with the winner of those four matches advancing to the 2011 U-17 World Cup in Mexico.

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Hosts Jamaica and the United States will continue their preparation for next month’s CONCACAF U-17 World Cup Qualifiers when they meet in the first of two friendly games at Jarrett Park this afternoon at 3:00.
The teams arrived in the island earlier this week — the Jamaicans from a six-week training camp in Brazil — and head coach Wendell Downswell told the media the team had gained much experience from the camp.
The US will be using the games — the second to be held on Sunday at the venue — to acclimatise to the conditions.
The last time both met at the venue in 1999 they drew 0-0, giving the hosts an automatic berth to the U-17 Finals in New Zealand, while the Americans qualified by a subsequent play-off.
Jamaica won four of their nine matches in Brazil after splitting a twomatch series against Canada late last year at the same venue.
There will not be an entry charge for the game today, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) announced.
Jamaica play their first game in the CONCACAF tournament on February 15 against Trinidad and Tobago at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, beginning at 3:00 pm.
The US start their campaign against Cuba a day earlier at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium.

Jamaica's Under-17 team meets Captain HoraceBurrell.
Adrian Frater, News Editor
Western Bureau:
Jamaica and their United States counterparts, who are now fine-tuning their preparation for next month's CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, will get a chance to assess their state of readiness when they square off in the first of two friendly matches at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay, at 3 p.m. today.
While the US team - which won the last completed championship in 2007 and has arguably the best record in the CONCACAF region - should start favourites to win the two-game series, the local team, fresh from a six-week training camp in Brazil, will be anxious to show that they are in fine fettle.
In fact, while not making any prediction going into today's game, experienced national head coach Wendell Downswell said fans will see a much more mature team than the one which shared a two-game series 1-1 with Canada late last year.
"We are ready from both a mental and physical perspective going into this first game against the United States," said Downswell.
"The players are all very anxious to put on a display (showing) what they learnt during their stay in Brazil," he added.
Downswell said he is seeing a kind of maturity with which he is most impressed, and he has every confidence that at the end of CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, which will be played in Jamaica February 12-27, Jamaica will be one of the four qualifiers for the upcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
Very confident
"The team is very confident down to the last man and they are very serious about the task ahead," noted Downswell. "The fans are going to see a kind of maturity never previously seen in this team."
As with the Jamaica team, the United States aggregation, which flew into the island on Tuesday and has been working out at the Breezes Rio Bueno Hotel in Trelawny, is beaming with confidence.
"This seven-day camp in Jamaica is basically to get a feel of the conditions so we intend to use the time here wisely," said the United States team's head coach Wilmer Cabrera.
"After these two friendlies against Jamaica, the squad will return to Florida where we will train before we return to Jamaica for the championship on February 10."
Jamaica's bid to impress will revolve around skipper Omar Holness, Patrick Palmer, Odean Clarke, Andre Lewis, Jason Wright and Romario Williams, while the United States should be quite potent with the likes of Matt Dunn, Jordon Allen, Marc Pelosi, Jack McBean and Paul Arriola.
