UPDATE: Omar Cummings Will Be With Aston Villa 'Probably Until March', Gerard Houllier Says

It's starting to look more and more like Omar Cummings will get his first taste of the EPL as Aston Villa has apparently turned their attention to the Colorado Rapids striker as their main loan target. Aston Villa had also been pursuing French midfielder Gueïda Fofana, but those talks have apparently ceased.

Cummings started training with Aston Villa this week and has apparently impressed Gerard Houllier enough that it's looking as if he'll be kept around awhile. The Rapids have said they don't intend to allow Cummings to miss any of the MLS season, but that they'd be open to loaning him until then.

"He will be here probably until March," said Houllier. "We looked at some videos and said we would have him here on trial. He looks quick although he’s a bit jet-lagged."

Playing in Europe would be a first for the 28-year-old. Cummings started his career in his native Jamaica, with whom he has 20 international caps, and found his way to MLS through the college system. Despite being one of the top attacking players in MLS over the past three years, he's still a relative unknown and has yet to get a significant payday. If he can show well, it would at the very least increase the chances of him getting a raise in MLS, where he currently makes less than the league average.

With Cummings and Jason being look at in the EPL/championship, if they come through with flying colors there's a possiblility the British would come and raid the barn.

Austin, Shelton, Dane, Demar, Vernon would be the enticement.

We haven't had a center midfielder played in the EPL, or be considered for a possible move there.

Even thou Jason signed with Aelesund we know he impressed at leads which is on the cusp of gaining promotion to the EPL.

For us to move to the next level where USA & MEX dwell, JASON, AUSTIN, DEMAR, DANE, EDWARDS will have to step up to that level of ball in the EPL/Championship.

We know they could handle that level of ball, but their confidence would shot up more being there or even be considered for a move.

With Jason knowing Leeds wanted him he now knows his level of ball is high. Signing with Aeslesund for more money who competed with Stromgodset for his signature will only help to boost Jason's confidence even more.

Hopefully Austin, Demar & Dane find themselves in a similar situation.

------------------------------------------------------------

On another note i'm hoping to see:
Lovel Palmer,
Kari Stephenson,
Obrian White,
Adrian Reid,
Woodbine
,

Dever Orgill, Kemar Daley, Devon Hodges, Mr. Man Morgan, Sergio Campbell, begin to mature in their respective areas of weaknesses.

Lovel Palmer even thou I don't rate him high as a midfielder nevertheless he's on course at Houston and hopefully he'll begin to up his confidence and challenge himself like Austin did, to be a better ball handler and be involve in the midfield grind for 90 minutes.

Kari Stephenson has the skill and guile with the ball, but he needs to really work harder on his fitness level, his energy on the pitch and his off the ball movement. He doesn't have much time left to correct this before doors begin to close on him.

We could definitely use his ball handling ability in midfield for the R'BOYZ but he's not ready because of his weaknesses.

Obrien White have to realize unless he begin to score he won't make it to the GCC; we are deep on the front line and just being an MLS forward won't cut it with the R'BOYZ any more.

Adrian Reid has being used consistently by TAPPA as a left side defender. Not an overlapper but as held his own in defense and has not made major errors. He needs to be more confident on the ball in defense, and to challenge himself by picking his spots and go forward sometimes.

Unless he shows confidence in his position the MLS won't give him a look.

Obrian Woodbine, it's time for him to push the envelop a bit. Eric Vernon got a chance and from the very outset he start to push the envelop in his play as a defender; going forward mixing it up with Dane. and now it's only a matter of time before the MLS draft him.

So it's time for Woodbine to challenge himself when given that chance, and that chance will be the friendlies before the GCC.

The younger yutes particularly Orgill, Daley and Morgan need to seize opportunities given.

Daley had gotten more chances than the others. Morgan scored two goals his first opportunity.

Daley did shine when TAPPA gave him the midfield in the game against Guyanaat the DCC. In the last game against Guadeloupe he wasn't featured and rightfully so.

Even though he has great potential to be a gifted midfielder like a RUSSEL LATAPY he has some growing to do, mentally & tactically.

Hopefully TAPPA gives him, in particular, more opportunities in the friendlies leading up to the GCC.

Orgill I've only seen briefly against PERU, and he has the knack or the look of a stiker that would be dangerous with the ball at his feet. Just need more looks at longer stretches in the game...

I think this is a win/win for Cummings and the Rapids. He should easily gain at least double his MLS salary while on loan to Villa. And his transfer value from Colorado should also increase.

Aston Villa will have to pay £2 million if they are to turn a prospective loan move for Omar Cummings into a permanent transfer, Goal.com UK can reveal.

The Colorado Rapids striker began a trial of unlimited length with Villa last week as manager Gerard Houllier looks to bolster his forward ranks.

Rapids are open to discussing a loan agreement for Cummings until the new Major League Soccer season starts on March 19 but will not allow the player to leave Colorado permanently unless their $3m (£1.94m) valuation is met.

“That is not over the top for a guy who is 28, at the prime of his career and who has been outstanding for us for the last two seasons,” a Colorado source told Goal.com UK.

Cummings, who studied law at college before turning professional three years ago, scored 14 goals last season as his club won the MLS title for the first time in their history.

Before last summer, Mexican club Necaxa had a $500,000 (£320,000) bid rejected for the Jamaica international, who has won 21 caps for his country.

Villa have yet to contact the Rapids about formalising Cummings’ trial into a loan move but Houllier wants to increase competition among his strikers, who have struggled for goals this season.

Emile Heskey, Gabriel Agbonlahor, John Carew and Nathan Delfouneso have scored just four Premier League goals between them this season.

If the deal fails, does this mean that Omar deserves a

raise of pay?

He actually studied pre-law/criminal justice at the University of Cincinnati. He was never enrolled in actual post graduate law school.

Colorado Rapids Want $3 Million To Transfer Omar Cummings, Report Says

by Jeremiah Oshan

Read More: Hugo Almeida (F - Portugal), Omar Cummings (F - COR), Aston Villa, Colorado Rapids, Stoke City

If Aston Villa, or any other team, wants to acquire Omar Cummings' services past mid-March, it will reportedly cost them about $3 million. The Colorado Rapids have repeatedly said Cummings is only available on a loan until the start of the MLS season, but this latest news is a sign there is a breaking point.

The price tag may seem a bit high for a 28-year-old without any European experience, but based on the fees being paid for comparable players, it doesn't seem that outlandish. Stoke City recently spent a about $3.4 million for Jermaine Pennant, a 27-year-old right midfielder who was playing at La Liga's Real Sarragosa. The Bundesliga's Werder Bremen recently sold 26-year-old striker Hugo Almeida to Turkey's Besiktas for about $2.7 million. While both players obviously had more European experience, neither had produced at a particularly high level.

A $3 million transfer fee also makes some sense for the Rapids, whose preference is obviously to keep Cummings. The Rapids would stand to get two-thirds of that - with the rest being distributed to the rest of the league. With $2 million, $650,000 of which could go to allocation money, the Rapids could afford a suitable replacement.

With Cummings already at Aston Villa and presumably sticking around for a couple of months, he should have plenty of time to showcase his talents. Even if Aston Villa deems Cummings an unnecessary luxury, if Cummings plays well he could attract other suitors.

= 3M Cummings?

Who can help me understand some of this?

Assuming that the deal goes through at $3M, how does that affect

his salary at Villa?

Remains the same?

Automatically gets % of transfer fee?

Bound by contract with Colorado?

Cummings in under contract to Colorado for another 2 years. If any clubs wants to sign him they will need to pay Colorado and MLS a transfer fee.

Cummings is free to demand whatever salary/personal terms he wants from Aston Villa.

Players have to sit down and discuss personal terms with the club....or walk away.....Discussion may include salary, car, housing, bonus tied to performance incentives.... I think Bibi's mother was a part of his deal......

Mi can shed a little light on how it works here as opposed to MLS.

In MLS, the league owns the players contracts and the players are 'contracted' out by the MLS franchises; their contracts involve players salaries at a cap set by MLS and also a % of any transfer fees from the MLS franchise club to a foriegn league going back to MLS.

In Britain, the clubs own the players contracts outright; there are no 3rd parties involved.

Any transfer fees are agreed totally between the negotiating clubs and the player or his agent has no say in setting a transfer fee...

Where its also different from MLS is that the player has the right to 10 % of the transfer fee; that is probably shared with his agent.

The player negotiates personal terms with the club through his agent and those terms include basic salary, allowances, bonuses and any special clauses etc etc.

If Cummings does earn a permanent move from MLS to Aston Villa at $ 3 million, that will be a steal for Aston Villa at current transfer prices in the EPL..

I hope he does well enough to earn it; its beteer for Jamaica if the best national team players are playing in the best leagues in the world.

If MLS has to suffer his loss, then so be it.

If Omar Cummings does get a permanent contract with Aston Villa, and can help the Villa up the EPL table and scores goals, he can negotiate a contract that will pay him WEEKLY, what MLS is now paying him ANNUALLY...

Even at the basic EPL salary of £20,000 per week plus appearances and win bonuses, Omar will be almost doubling his MLS salary, per week !

Jamaican players are properly being 'shafted' by MLS but I think that's no great secret.
