Not sure how FIFA do their thing, but it seems tainted to me.
Colombia - ranked 6th in the world? Give me a break! Do you mean the Copa America carried so much points? Honduras jumped from 48th to 23rd? This is how Concacaf now stacks up with Jamaica carrying the bag in last place.
Mexico = 12 USA = 16 Honduras = 23 Costa Rica = 31 Trinidad = 32 Jamaica = 52
Mexico - got their arse kicked so many times and still remain firm in 12th. Even ahead of England who whipped them 5-0.
Trinidad - Lost so many games in the world cup qualifying and still have not lost a beat.
Jamaica - lost 7 points, even though they are holding their own in qualifying games. Playing those Caribbean minnows may have harmed us...but that bad?
Honduras - Got 25 points for beating a weak Brazilian team? Jumped from 48th - 23rd.
This FIFA world ranking is a big insult to teams all over the world that are playing well and improving. Nuff said!

I agree, but remember the ratings don't mean much. You get no more or no less money. And typically, the rankings are based on performances during FIFA sanctioned Tournaments.

I read recently that you can't get a work permit to play overseas if your cuontry is ranked below a certain spot. This worked against one of the Dreads on the Canadian team.
Now Vigour... That sounds like one of the reasons why, though we think the fifa rankings is a farce, we as the people with less power should take these rankings more serious and really think of the implications and voice our dis-trusts more loudly.
I just cant understand how we never want to play there game but we always abide by their rules.

They make the world so hard
I read that your country has to be in the top 50 in order for a player to be signed in the English Premiership. If so, then it looked like Jermaine Johnson was signed in time with Bolton.
Wow! This was more serious than I thought. In this case the Reggaeboyz have to play their hearts out in the remaining World Cup games. A loss to Mexico would end our hopes and sink us further in the rankings. It will be tough to recover as this is an active year for national teams. A match with Brazil at home may be the best remedy. Honduras gained 25 points with their win.
When we qualified for the last World Cup, we were ranked 32nd in the world. Maldini made harsh criticism of our team, notwithstanding our rankings. Now isn't Jamaica's reputation at stake?
MikeU, does this rule applies to the U20 or only for the senior team members?

Yhat is not true...you have to represent your country in a certain percentage of internationals..NOTHING to do with world ranking...explain the Australians, the Japanes the Russians etc. Their teams did not see a top 50 for extended periods, yet their nationals played abroad.

Here are the TWO main criteria [*]A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive "A" team matches for which he was available for selection during the two years prceding the date of the work permit application. [*]The FIFA ranking of the player's country must be at or above 70th place in the official rankings list when averaged over the two years preceding the date of the application.

Chez is correct. Not sure where MikeU read that fictitious story about a team has to rank above 50 for players to be qualified for contract in England. It has always been 70. That is why Canadian players were suffering for so long...
When we were ranked 32 the system was ok, but now when we are ranked 52 we say its a BIG FRAUD. The fraud is that Caribbean tour we went on. Playing lowly placed teams and loosing drags the scoring down. Its the same criteria used for all the teams. Dont blame FIFA blame the JFF

Grenada moved up 5 places to 132 after beating us, while we went down 7 places.
I agree with you Jagga but I can see several anomalies in the top 20.
First - Brazil do not deserve the number 2 position
Second - Columbia won a sub par competition at HOME and moved up 14 places to 6.
Third - While Concacaf has two teams in the top 20 the African continent which is much stronger (and has already completed their world cup qualiers) does not have any team in the top 20.

Yes Double, the system have BIG HOLES IN it. Re: Columbia, it does not matter the level of competition, sub par or par, once it's a 'A' class match it applies. There is a weighting system involved but dem Geneva Boyz TWEAK IT as dem see fit
Tweak as they may they can't stop di ReggaeBoyz. Only WE can stop our progress.

Tsk, Tsk, Tsk....imagine that..
There were people on this forum bawling out how the little bush league copa competion was a total waste of time....imagine that! They even said how they'd prefer to get 6nil from a big side than 1 nil from one of these mnnows....imagine that!
They bawled how we should be playing big international matches to expose our youths, because these bush league matches are doing nothing for them...imaging that!
But wait! here comes Fifa with the late register, which covers from bush league to roses league, and moves Jamaica 7pts, yet the bawling continues.....
