Boyz secure Peru friendly
André Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter
Jamaica's Reggae Boyz celebrate scoring in a friendly game against Argentina.
After a spell of inactivity, action seems to be stepping up in the corridors of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) as the administration has managed to tie down yet another friendly international with Peru scheduled to play the Reggae Boyz on September 7.
The contest, which will be played at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will be played two days after the Boyz do battle with Costa Rica inside the National Stadium.
The team only recently defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-1 in a friendly international and will be full of confidence as they continue their preparation ahead of the Digicel Caribbean Cup title defence and the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup competition.
JFF boss Captain Horace Burrell, while explaining that he received some help from US football officials, expressed delight at securing the fixture against the world 39-ranked team, as he looks to return the Reggae Boyz to their past heights.
"I contacted the US officials for assistance and they have now granted the promoter the permission to stage this game in Fort Lauderdale," Burrell noted.
"I'm very happy that we will be able to stage this game, we gave a commitment to the country that we will have the Reggae Boyz play as often as possible and ,though difficult, we have worked hard and we are now able to confirm this game against Peru as well."
strong test
Burrell underlined the importance of the encounter and pointed out that the Peruvians will provide a strong test as the team continues its preparation for international assignments down the road.
"It's our policy, we have to keep the team active. Right now, the Reggae Boyz are preparing for the Digicel Caribbean Cup towards the ending of the year and also the Gold Cup and they definitely need these kind of tests," Burrell noted.
The former army man is also hoping that the large Jamaican community in the area will come out in their numbers in support of the team and made a special appeal to the fans there.
"Our supporters in Florida have always asked to see the team play in their area and this is a golden opportunity and therefore I would like to use this medium to encourage the Jamaican and Caribbean fans to wear their colours and come out and support the team," said Burrell.
The Peru friendly is expected to get under way at 7 p.m. (Jamaica time)
overseas-based players
Meanwhile, head coach Theodore Whitmore has invited 10 overseas-based players to his squad for the September 5 friendly against Costa Rica inside the National Stadium. It is not clear if all these players will also be available for the Peru encounter.
The contingent includes Nicholas Addlery (Puerto Rico Islanders) who last played for Jamaica in a 1-0 win over El Salvador in the 2009 Gold Cup and Omar Daley (Bradford City FC) who last played in February 2009 against Nigeria. Luton Shelton (Valarenga FC), who was the lone goalscorer in the Reggae Boyz last victory over Canada on home soil, has also been invited. Other overseas invitees are; Donovan Ricketts, Shavar Thomas, Ryan Johnson, Omar Cummings, Dane Richards, Demar Phillips and Jason Morrison.

If we are trying to solve a problem with discipline(both mentally and tactically), Omar Daley is not the answer, he must need some caps to renew his work permit.
I would rather the JFF call Joel V. Grant from Crew Alexander or Khari Stephenson from San Jose.
Captain Burrell stop the politricks with the squad selection.
Way too early for Omar Daley while there are other players in mid-season..........
.........In, addition, Omar Daley will not be part of the Caribbean Cup squad......
If this is a midfielder issue.......Khari Stephenson (San Jose), Lovell Palmer (Houston) and for those who do not know O'Brian White (Toronto FC) was coverted to forward by his college coach Ray Reid. Ray Reid (UCONN) recruited White as an attacking midfielder then he realized that White could play both positions.....................White is more effective or more dangerous coming from midfield than as a pure striker. As far as speed....JCR, Omar Daley, Dane Richards, Jermaine Johnson, O'Brian White.......are all speedsters.

LINCOLN, I think the reason they said Continental Europe was because they are omitting the England based players. Continental Europe does generally include Scandinavia with the exception of Iceland I think.
Boss you know that and I know that.........Jamtl mentioned a geography lesson. Geography is one lesson - JFF speak is another.........The JFF folks know that you can get more fans to Fort Lauderdale by mentioning Contentinal Europe. Most Reggaeboyz fans do not care about scholarly definitions of Scandavia/Nothern Europe Peninsula (Norway, Sweden) etc. Some could care less about the players we HAD in Hungary/Mainland Europe (Rafe Wolfe or Jason Morrison). The "Nordic" folks like Luton Shelton, Rudi "Red Card" Austin, Phillips etc are not exactly selling points for the fickle Reggaeboyz (wagonists) fans.......Real Talk-In JFF speak translation - "Continental Europe" = England. After most of the fans get to Fort Lauderdale and sit down.......FANS - "Where is Fuller?"... JFF- "We said Continental Europe"........
Do you see why I underlined "Continental Europe?"
GEOGRAPHY Anyway if we want to get real technical, we can exclude MOST "Nordic" countries and Euro-Asian states from "Continental/Mainland Europe"......all depends on your audience.......and I slept through Geography........after Hot bread wid cheese...... and some wash (cherry flavored bag juice w/ shaved ice)......class done.
Lincs you might have slept through geography class, but you are wide awake when it comes to sniffing out the JFF's double speak and legalese.
Noticed I picked out one such double speak on the CRica thread also.
It is sad that they have to resort to this fi get people inna the stands, but like Technic said they affi do what they affi do fi get people inna the stands.
I rather they do that than wasting money bringing in the English players for these games and not having the funds to bring them in when it really counts. If JA gets positive results from these games no one would remember the deceitfulness. These are the chances a bruk JFF affi tek.

Peru friendly a key step towards Cup berth Published: Saturday | August 21, 2010 0 Comments and 0 Reactions JFF boss Captain Horace Burrell. - File
Andre Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter
Jamaica's upcoming test against Peru at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is seen by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) as another key step towards getting the team ready for next year's start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
The JFF earlier this week confirmed the friendly international against the 39th ranked South Americans scheduled for September 7, 2010, two days after a clash inside the National Stadium against Costa Rica.
The Reggae Boyz recorded a 3-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the twin-island republic; and before that they lost 2-0 to South Africa in April; were beaten by a last-minute goal in a 2-1 defeat to Argentina in February; prior to beating Canada 1-0 inside the National Stadium, courtesy of a Luton Shelton strike.
JFF president, Captain Horace Burrell, underlined the importance of keeping the team active, and pointed to their upcoming assignments at the Digicel Caribbean Cup later this year and the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup as other key outings for the team ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup push.
"It's our policy, we have to keep the team active. Right now, the Reggae Boyz are preparing for the Digicel Caribbean Cup towards the end of the year, and also the Gold Cup, and they definitely need these kinds of tests," Burrell noted. "We have to get the team ready for the start of the next World Cup campaign so, with that in mind, this is a very important period for us."
Burrell expressed delight at the upcoming increased activity for the team, while explaining that he got some help from the United States football authorities for the staging of this game.
"I'm very happy that we will be able to stage this game. We gave a commitment to the country that we will have the Reggae Boyz play as often as possible and, though difficult, we have worked hard and we are now able to confirm this game against Peru as well," Burrell noted.
"Our supporters in Florida have always asked to see the team play in their area, and this is a golden opportunity and, therefore, I would like to use this medium to encourage the Jamaican and Caribbean fans to wear their colours and come out and support the team," he added.
The Peru friendly is expected to get under way at 7 p.m. (Jamaica time).

But then again we still look like idiots because the price of a plane ticket from Oslo, Norway to Jamaica(normally via London) is cost even more than the UK airfares.
I truly think that agent Phil Graham cover the airfares of his players sometimes for the JFF.
It is so pointless arguing who should be selected and who should not. Cannot keep everyone happy. We have the luxury of a lot of above average players to rotate like car tires. It seems like Tappa is going with the proven players for now.

Even though I did mentioned the cost in monetary terms I would suspect there is a lot more cost involve than airfares. I would think there is a lesser cost to inconveniencing a club from Norway than one from England for a game of this nature.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't remember JA bringing in 1 or 2 English players at a time like they do with players from other leagues. It seems the English players always come in as a contingent.
