That is the 2014 question.

Are we just satisfied with having a bunch of names on paper or do we really want to evaluate our players to see what these other cats are made of?
These other "Shop keepers" cannot hide behind Ricketts forever.
Tarzan Miller took his arsing in Iran (8-1) and he keeps going from strength to strength.... the others have to cut their teeth too....

I GUESS WE HAVE SOLVED ONE ISSUE FOR 2014...........

IF the following players are a waste of space then we need to find a couple of D-Cup or Manning Cup keepers to groom very fast!!!
GK Richard McCallum (Age 26) Waterhouse F.C.
GK Dwayne Kerr (Age 23) Portmore United
GK Andre Blake (Age 20) Sporting

This is not the time to limit our player pool or start a problem with one of our key players over Burrell's media talk about commitment. He may need to be committed himself if he doesn't stop his nonsense and politricking our football. But all the same I am surprised that after Arena's mouthing off a Jean Tigana when he managed Fulham. He attacked Tigana for the same reason calling him a "complete jerk" now he's doing the same thing as a club manager. So was Tigana not a jerk or has Arena become a jerk?

Redz

What makes you believe that at 33 yoa, Ricketts is nearing the end of his career as a goalkeeper ?

Ricketts is just entering his prime years as an experienced goalkeeper a la Edwin Van der Saar and others.

Why you think the Galaxy holding out on Jamaica so ?

They would rather Jamaica drop Ricketts or Ricketts retire from international football altogether so they can get the best of him now that he's proven such a good investment.

Sir Burrell still too 'bully bully' to be dealing smartly with this situation.

He doesn't understand that he needs Ricketts and other senior players more than they need him or to play for Jamaica now.

As LINCS sey, wha Burrell a go do now when him caan bully man fi play because dem don't need caps for contracts.

Him betta stay outta di mix and mek the national coach, Tappa Whitmore, negotiate and deal with his players individually, the way most other national associations work.

When a player really wants to play for his country and his coach, no association president don't need to be involved, all im fi do is request the players release and leave the rest to the managers/coaches.

They are the ones to sort issues out with the players and their releases.

Ricketts released
Published: Monday |
August 2, 2010
Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

National goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is expected to join up with the rest of the Reggae Boyz squad ahead of the Trinidad and Tobago friendly international, having been released by Major League Soccer (MLS) club LA Galaxy.

Initially, it had seemed that there was a confrontation brewing between the MLS outfit and local football's governing body, the Jamaica
Football Federation (JFF), after initial hesitancy on the part of the club to release the player for the encounter. Despite a splendid run of form for LA Galaxy, which saw him recently earning a spot as starting keeper on the MLS All-Star team, Ricketts has not made an appearance for the national team since last year's Gold Cup.

According to the JFF, several requests to have the shot stopper released for a number of friendly internationals since then, a total of six in all, had been turned down for various reasons by the club, a situation that had seen the local body threaten to approach FIFA with a view to having regulation enforced.

Fifa regulations

According to FIFA regulations, "A club holding the registration of a player called up to play in the national team must release him to the national association on the fixed/set dates (FIFA dates) for international matches in each calendar year."

The Jamaica vs Trinidad game, which is set for August 11, will fall on an official FIFA friendly international match date.

"We are happy that a compromise could be reached. At any level of international football, there has to be a certain amount of give and take," head of the JFF, Captain Horace Burrell, told The Gleaner.

"We understand that there are times the player will not be available due to the fact that the club has an important fixture and we are willing to work around that, but cooperation is extremely important."

"However, the situation as it stood had become totally unacceptable and we were not willing to put up with it any longer," Burrell said.

It should be noted that in an unofficial response, officials from LA Galaxy had pointed out that they were well within their rights because of the six previous requests that were made by the JFF for Ricketts, only one fell on a FIFA match date. The official, who could not speak on record due to protocol, noted that the shot stopper was also injured at the point of other call-ups, and that some were made during or close to important fixtures for the club.

Meanwhile, Ricketts will be joined by MLS players Dane Richards of the New York Red Bulls, and Ryan Johnson, who plies his trade for the San José Earthquakes. Rodolph Austin of Norwegian Premier League side SK Brann and Eric Vernan, currently on loan to Nybergsund IL, also in Norway, will be the European additions. Despite the squad missing a number of regular invitees, including Luton
Shelton, who recently caught the eye of Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola while playing for Valarenga, Burrell explained that it was part of an evaluation process being carried out by national coach Theodore Whitmore.

The 83rd-ranked Jamaicans will tackle the Trinidadians in Macoya and then prepare to host 49th-ranked Costa Rica at the Office on September 5.

1. Donavon Ricketts? = Evaluate Ricketts? Waste of a plane tickett!!****

2. Dane Richards of the New York Red Bulls = "Evaluate" him, because he has been blowing hot and cold....

3. Ryan Johnson, San José Earthquakes = "Evaluate" him because Tappa has only seen him twice.

4. Rodolph Austin,SK Brann = Very expensive "evaluation" ...Sure, he has changed positions for his club but another wasted ticket?**

5. Eric Vernan, Nybergsund IL = Maybe, because he has not been playing shite all season.

* Two wasted plane fares.......if we are talking about "evaluation" of players.......waste those tickets on two other players who Whitmore have not seen/have not seen much of!!!

when last rickets play an internatinal game for Jamaica? If he is still our number one goallie, then we cant afford to just throw him by the wayside in favor of blooding up and coming keepers. At the end of the day, Ricketts must see some action as well, particularly on FIFA dates. He can share duties with reserve keepers on these dates. I am sure the reserve guys benefit when they train with him too.

Relevance as it relates to the other two 'keepers in camp?

Who said anything about throwing Ricketts by the wayside?
*If Jamaica had three keepers at the same level of Ricketts would there be a problem as to who was selected? How do you get there by keeping Ricketts in goal ahead of all these other players who are just an injury away from the number one shirt? Do you get theses keepers up to speed on your own terms or do you wait until the situation is forced upon you?
Better yet, would you rather them be blooded in the Azteca during qualifying?

Is it the quantity of the opposition or the quality of the opposition? Would you rather "evaluate" Ricketts' progress versus Barcelona or versus T&T "C" team? Do you think T&T is sending a T&T "A" team?

Ok, Ricketts plays 45 minutes and the second keeper plays 45 minutes.......So Richard McCallum or Duwayne Kerr goes along for sight seeing?

* Oh, so if Ricketts "fails" this evaluation process he is left out of future Jamaica squads? ;\)

Boss this is called F....E....A....R...... plain and simple. Fear of losing........
-Enjoy the madness.

Tappa has about 18-24 months to waste before qualifying comes knocking on his door.......and you will hear the same nonsense.
We are not prepared! We need more time to prepare!

That even makes the situation more grave than first thought:

(1) A team is only as good as its replacements - Take a look at Jamaica's second XI. That is pretty discouraging when the coaching staff gives a resounding NO CONFIDENCE vote to the back-up SHOPKEEPERS.

(2) What does that say about our "program" and our approach? Half - Arsed and limited.

(3) What does the inclusion of Ricketts prove vs T&T "B" or "C" team?

(4) How soon we forget - These are some of the same cats who were ripping Dwayne Miller apart for his game versus Argentina a couple months ago......Well, the reality is Miller is the BEST we have after Ricketts.....Ouch, very, very scary eh?

When will the guys below Miller get a chance in this E-V-A-L-U-A-T-I-O-N process that the good Captain was refering to? Or did he mean O-S-M-O-S-I-S Process?
How do we approach the problem? What problem? Everything is irie.

I see that USA called up Donovan and Buddle for their match versus Brazil on August 10th in New York. Now, while I understand how Burrell could feel disrespect by Arena, I still believe we should have gone to Trinidad with one of #2 keepers and then fought to get Ricketts for the matches in the Office.

CARSON, Calif.

The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has claimed rookie goalkeeper Brian Perk off waivers from the Philadelphia Union. A native of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Perk was waived by the Union on Friday after being selected by the club in the fourth round (49th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

A four-year standout at UCLA, where he was a teammate of current Galaxy rookie Michael Stephens, Perk was also a member of the Galaxy’s U-20 team in 2008, helping that squad win the Pacific Southern California Division title in their inaugural season. The 21-year-old has played for the U.S. Under-15, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 National Teams, playing at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2007 and 2009, helping the U.S. reach the quarterfinals in 2007.

Perk did not appear in any MLS games for the Union, though he did play in the club’s recent friendlies against Celtic and Manchester United. He is expected to join the Galaxy in training for the first time on Friday, August 6 and will be available for selection against Real Madrid on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl.

That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. (PT) and tickets are available now. For more information about this game or to purchase tickets, please contact the Galaxy by calling 1-877-3GALAXY (342-5299) or by visiting http://www.lagalaxy.com.

Yes Lincoln I agree Miller is right behind ricketts. When world cup qualifying comes around Miller will have to be the understudy to ricketts. so he must get the experience he deserves.

Ricketts will join team after game vs Real Madrid

RICKETTS GETS JAMAICA CALL: Donovan Ricketts will also be on international duty this week as he has been named in Jamaica’s squad for their friendly against Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday night in Port of Spain. The 33-year-old goalkeeper last represented his country at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July 2009, starting all three of the Reggae Boyz games at that tournament.

Following Wednesday’s game, Ricketts, who has been capped 75 times by Jamaica and was a part of their squad at the 1998 World Cup, will fly directly to New York where he will meet up with the rest of his Galaxy teammates ahead of Saturday’s game against the Red Bulls.

ARENA TO BE HONORED TUESDAY: Prior to Tuesday’s game between the U.S. and Brazil......Along with Buddle, Donovan and Gonzalez, Arena will remain in New York on Wednesday and meet up with the team on Thursday.

LA's Ricketts honored to suit up for Reggae Boyz

CARSON, Calif. — Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts has been a fixture for his country for some time. Ricketts played all eight of Jamaica’s 2010 World Cup qualifying matches and started for Jamaica in the 2009 and 2005 Gold Cups.

Thus, it is no surprise that he has been called upon to help Jamaica usher in this World Cup cycle. Ricketts will try and help the Reggae Boyz on the long road to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup with a warm-up match against rivals Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.

Ricketts is likely to start in goal for the Boyz.

“It’s always an honor to play for your country, but sometimes you can’t go because of club commitments,” said Ricketts, who last played for Jamaica in the 2009 Gold Cup. “It’s not necessarily that you don’t want to play for your country, but sometimes their schedule is hectic and sometimes club comes first.”

Club seemed to come first this time around. A report in Jamaican daily The Gleaner said the Jamaican FA was threatening to approach FIFA over the Galaxy’s alleged denial to release Ricketts. But the big 'keeper said there was nothing to that report.

“The Jamaican federation jumped and put something in the paper but later apologized,” Ricketts said. “It was just a slight misunderstanding.”

Potential controversy notwithstanding, Ricketts is approaching the match against the Soca Warriors with excitement and confidence. If nothing else, Trinidad and Jamaica should provide an electric atmosphere.

“It’s like a Chivas-Galaxy game," he said. "It’s always a close rivalry between us and Trinidad. Every game is a competitive game between us, and I’m looking forward to it.”

As far as predicting a winner, Ricketts didn't hold back his confidence.

“We’re going to win down there on their turf,” he said. “Jamaica is the better team.”

Not only does Jamaica have the better soccer team, but Ricketts also ensured that their national beer – Red Stripe – was better than Trinidad’s Carib.

“Red Stripe, mon!” he exclaimed.

Well, it is about damn time!!!!

What is the purpose of having a bunch of names on paper if Tappa Whitmore has no idea what the players can do in a match situation? A team is only a good as the 2nd or 3rd string team....TRANSLATION?...In our goal keeping department, the Reggaeboyz are are just as good as who is behind Ricketts or Miller......enough said. So while Mexico, Canada, USA , Honduras, Panama etc were using the opportunity to sift through their RUX player database, we were here fighting the LA Galaxy for Ricketts and spending money we do not have to fly a jetlagged Miller from the top of the globe.........Well, I hope Sportmax picked up the bill for Miller.
Anyway, thank goodness the light bulb went on in somebody's head......trust me.....Tappa Knows better.......so I know it is not him.
