We will need to work hard and play intelligently to beat Trinidad in this tough derby match. They will need to dominate possession of the ball with sharp and intelligent passes. We have inexperience players in the midfield so they will need to step up their game MENTALLY as much as physically. If we are leading by 1 goal near the 90th minute, expect at least 5+ minutes of injury time to be added. Finally, our CONCENTRATION in the last 15 minutes of the match is key.
With the right preparations and squad...Jamaica can win the 2011 Gold Cup.
I would love to see Jamaica finally put it all together and come good to contend for the Gold Cup championship in 2011.
If we can do that, then we know we're on the right track for Brazil 2014.
Jamaica needs to 'humble' wi self and accept that its only hard work, good administrative decision making and the necessary rub of the green along with a solid commercial marketing strategy will have us fulfilling our potential and football goals.
We have to accept that we are not as good as Mexico and the USA and be willing to work hard to become as good as them in every area of the game.
A tough job I know but accepting where we are now is the first step.

Latapy cancels training session ctntworld.com
National coach Russell Latapy has cancelled training sessions for the rest of the week due to the non-availability of players from San Juan Jaboteh and Joe Public.
The Soca Warrriors are due to play Jamaica next week in an international friendly.
Both Jabloteh and Joe Public are involved in the CONCACAF Champions League qualification series with key return leg fixtures on Wednesday and Thursday respectively, making their players unavailable at this time.
Furthermore, Jabloteh, Defence Force, W/Connection and North East Stars are also involved in the Lucozade Sport Gold Shield semi-finals on Friday, keeping the core of national players away from Latapy's training sessions even more.
As a consequence, the next scheduled training sessions will be Monday and Tuesday of next week, ahead of the clash with Jamaica on Wednesday at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
One man keen to assist coach Latapy is goalkeeping ace Clayton Ince, who recently ended his professional playing career in England. He is helping out with the goalkeepers on the senior team, just as he has been doing with the under-20 and under-23s in recent weeks.
Ince will not be eligible for selection in Wednesday's clash, but is keeping fit incase his services are required later.

So it appears Jamaica is at a disadvantage in terms of match fitness. Also, the game is scheduled to be played at the Marvin Lee Stadium which is an artifical turf playing field.

Boyz depart for Warriors showdown

Jamaica's national senior footballers are slated to travel to Trinidad today ahead of Wednesday's friendly international against the hosts.
The game was originally set for the Hasely Crawford Stadium, but due to FIFA inspection of the facilities for the Under-17 Women's World Cup, the game has been switched to the Marvin Lee Stadium at 6:00 pm (5:00 pm Jamaica time).
Thirteen local-based players have been selected by head coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, and they along with Eric Vernan, the European-based player, who is already in the island, will depart today at approximately 2:00 pm. They will be joined upon arrival in the twin-island republic by US-based players Donovan Ricketts, Shavar Thomas, Ryan Johnson and Dane Richards, as well as Rodolph Austin, who is also based in Europe.
Wednesday's game is a continuation of the Brazil 2014 World Cup campaign, which was launched on January 31 with a game against Canada at Kingston's National Stadium.
The game, the first of a two-leg series between the top two Caribbean nations, will be the fourth international for the Boyz this year, after the 1-0 win over Canada, a courageous 1-2 loss to Argentina in Mar Del Plata and a 0-2 loss to South Africa in Germany.
The return leg is slated for October 10 at the National Stadium, but before that the Boyz will entertain CONCACAF neighbours Costa Rica at the same venue on September 5.
Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) boss Captain Horace Burrell has promised that both teams would parade their best "available players", and while the English League players are not expected to participate, Trinidad and Tobago's head coach Russell Latapy is sure to field a number of his star players.
Jamaica's local-based players are Jermaine Taylor, Dicoy Williams, Andre Blake, Devon Williams, Oneil Fisher, Troy Smith, Adrian Reid, Richard Edwards, Ricardo Cousins, Devon Hodges, Kavin Bryan, Kenardo Forbes and Mario Swaby.
The touring party is completed by Head of Delegation Sheridan Samuels; Whitmore; assistant coach Bradley Stewart; team manager Howard Bell; team doctor Ivor O'Connor; and equipment manager Dwayne Blake.

As Jamaica's 19-man Reggae Boyz squad gets ready to depart the island later this afternoon for Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Captain Horace Burrell, is expecting his team to get the better of their regional arch-rivals on their own turf.
Speaking to The Gleaner last night, Burrell was extremely confident when asked to weigh the team's chances in the twin-island republic, as both teams get ready for their friendly international on Wednesday.
"I think that we have enough ammunition in our arsenal to take care of the Trinidadians in Port of Spain," said the captain.
"I'm expecting this to be a keenly contested game. It's not going to be easy as when both teams play each other it's normally a difficult game and I'm expecting no less this time around," he added. "But I believe our players are focused and are aware of the task at hand and I'm expecting a good performance from them."
Long-term plans
Burrell was also keen to highlight the importance of this encounter to the long-term plans of his administration with the Digicel Caribbean Cup and World Cup qualifications just around the corner.
"This game is very important for us to fine-tune preparations first of all for the Digicel Caribbean Cup to be held later this year and beyond," Burrell noted. "We recognised the need to get back to where we are expected to be in terms of Caribbean and CONCACAF football and this is a step in that direction."
Meanwhile, the squad, which is scheduled to leave the island shortly after 2 p.m, features three first-time senior team invitees; Devon Williams (Real Mona/St Georges), Oneil Fisher (Harbour View/St Georges) and Andre Blake (Sporting Central). The trio were all part of national Under-21 squad, which had been preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games in July.
Six overseas-based players
The squad is highlighted by the inclusion of six overseas-based players - Shavar Thomas (Kansas City Wizards), Ryan Johnson (San Jose Earthquakes), Dane Richards (New York Red Bulls), Donovan Ricketts (LA Galaxy), Rudolph Austin (SK Brann) and Eric Vernan (Nybergsund).
Norway-based left-sided utility player, Demar Phillips, was also invited but could not make the trip after he picked up an injury two Sundays ago.
Jamaica squad: Jermaine Taylor, Dicoy Williams, Richard Edwards, Adrian Reid, Devon Williams, Kavin Bryan, Oniel Fisher, Kenardo Forbes, Ricardo Cousins, Troy Smith, Devon Hodges, Mario Swaby, Andre Blake, Shavar Thomas, Ryan Johnson, Dane Richards, Donovan Ricketts, Rodolph Austin and Eric Vernan.

Latapy: Nothing for T&T to prove
Story Created: Aug 9, 2010 at 1:54 AM ECT
Story Updated: Aug 9, 2010 at 2:33 AM ECT
National senior men's team head coach Russell Latapy yesterday said there was nothing to prove when Trinidad and Tobago take on keen Caribbean rivals Jamaica in the first of two friendly internationals on Wednesday.
Latapy yesterday named a 22-man squad to face the Reggae Boyz and told TTFF Media, "the only point we have to prove is to play to the best of our ability."
Included in his squad are several high performers from the T&T Pro League, including top marksmen Kerry Baptiste of Joe Public and the Defence Force duo of Devorn Jorsling and Kevon Carter.
Also in the mix will be the Puerto Rico Islanders pair of Kendall Jagdeosingh and Keon Daniel whose club enjoyed a triumph over MLS side La Galaxy in the Concacaf Champions League last week.
However, San Jose Earthquakes striker Cornell Glen will not be available for Wednesday's friendly because of last minute overseas commitments.
Glen, who was invited for the encounter last week, has indicated his willingness to accept further invitations for upcoming international friendlies once called up again.
Also missing will be midfielders Densill Theobald and Clyde Leon through injury but experienced Joe Public midfielder Trent Noel and teammate Hayden Tinto are in the squad alongside W Connection's Hughton Hector. Both Jorsling and Carter are enjoying good runs, having scored in the recent 4-1 win over Antigua/Barbuda last month, while Baptiste is coming off a fine opening item in Joe Public's 4-2 win over Costa Rica's Brujas FC last Wednesday.
T&T's back line includes Defence Force players Aklie Edwards and Keston Edwards as well as W Connection's Kern Cupid and Makan Hislop. Joe Public's Carlyle Mitchell has gotten a first time call for the new year from Latapy.
Like T&T, the Jamaicans—who also face Costa Rica in another friendly later this month—are preparing for the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup. They will arrive in Port of Spain this evening.
Both Latapy and Jamaican head coach Theodore Whitmore are widely regarded as two of the most decorated and recognised players to represent their respective countries and will be coming head to head for the first time since taking over the top coaching positions of their countries. For Latapy, it is just another element of what promises to be anintriguing clash between the region's top two teams.
"Like I said before, we haven't seen Jamaica in a while and I wanted to see where they are at the moment and I'm pretty sure they will be hoping to do the same. It's going to give us another idea of where we are at right now in preparations for the Digicel Cup," Latapy said.
Wednesday's evening of matches kicks off at 4pm with the T&T's women's Under-17 team meeting the T&T women's senior team, followed by a 6pm start for the feature match between the "Soca Warriors" and the Reggae Boyz". Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for children and will be available on Wednesday at the venue.

Donovan Ricketts - File
KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC):
Donovan Ricketts heads a list of six overseas internationals that have been called home to boost Jamaica's squad for an international friendly against Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday.
Ricketts plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy in the United States' Major League Soccer, where three others have been invited for the match against Russell Latapy's Soca Warriors.
The others from the MLS are Dane Richards of the New York Red Bulls, Shavar Thomas of Kansas City Wizards, and Ryan Johnson of the San Jose Earthquakes.
The pair of Rodolph Austin and Eric Vernan of the Norwegian Premiership sides Brann and Nybergsund, respectively, have also earned call-ups.
The match is part of the Reggae Boyz and the Warriors' build-up to the Digicel Caribbean Cup, which starts later this year.
National coach Theodore Whitmore noted the campaign for the island to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil starts now.
He agreed that Jamaica does not have the talent locally, but he made it clear the job must continue.
"We just have to work with what we have and try get the best out of them," he said.
"Nothing in life comes easy, so we just have to come out on the field every day, and work, work.
"There are positive signs. The players are coming out and they are putting in the work, so I am confident."
Three uncapped players have also been included in the squad. They are Devon Williams, Oneil Fisher, and Andre Blake, all members of the Under-21 squad that prepared for the CAC Games in July.
Their selection is consistent with the technical staff's policy that players from this squad can find a place in the senior team.
The Boyz depart the island today.

Figured you guys may as well enjoy this bit of audio since few up here are interested in Jamaica-Trinidad.
