Bafana Secure Another Friendly Match
20 April 2010

Bafana Bafana have managed to secure another friendly international during their training camp in Germany. South Africa will take on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Thursday, 22 April. The match will be played at the SV Wehen Wiesbaden Stadium in Frankfurt. Kick off is at 18H00.

The second friendly international match will be against China on Wednesday, 28 April at the Offenbach Kickers FC Stadium, also in Frankfurt. Kick off is at 20H30.

Bafana Bafana Team Manager Sipho Nkumane says the players will be awarded caps for both matches.

"It has been difficult trying to get practice matches but now we are elated that we managed to secure DPR Korea. The coach has been looking for quality and competitive opponents; that is why we had to cancel the match against Nuremburg II. Another team, SPVGG Greuther Furth was going to send their second stream team to play us because their first is rounding off their second division league season. The current volcanic ash crisis has not helped either with Estonia being grounded and had to withdraw from the match that was scheduled to take place on Saturday, 24 April. They are still keen to come though if the skies clear up and they still make it to Germany," said Nkumane.

Korea will arrive from Spain where they are holding a training camp.

Jamaica vs South Africa Again!

April 25, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jamaica’s National Senior Men’s team, the Reggae Boyz will play an international friendly against the South African National team, Bafana Bafana on Wednesday, April 28 in Frankfurt, Germany.

President of the JFF, and FIFA and South African appointed Ambassador to the 2010 World Cup, Captain Horace Burrell received the invitation from the South African Football Association on Friday, 23rd April. The South African team which is already in Germany staging a training camp ahead of the FIFA World Cup, drew with North Korea last week and are anxious to have more international friendlies as they fine tune their preparation for World Cup 2010. A match scheduled with the Chinese National team for April 28 was cancelled by the Chinese on Friday and the JFF was approached to fill the void.

Despite this very late call and the extremely tight travelling schedule, the Federation accepted the invitation because of the importance of exposing the national team and specifically our younger players to as many international encounters as possible.

The travelling delegation will on Monday receive the necessary visas to enter Germany thanks to the German Embassy; the South African Ambassador to Jamaica, Her Excellency FD Radebe; and the Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Wow, they will be so jet lagged they wont be able to run straight (unless, that is, some of the European-based players play, which I doubt)

No overseas players..... the word came too quickly. If a local player did not have minutes on his cell him get what the last duck get.

Well, the good thing is that even if you no have no minutes, you can still get incoming calls.

If them leave this afternoon ( straight to London) they can get to Frankfurt by Tuesday afternoon, 24 hrs before kick-off.

Boyz in race against time for SA friendly

BY SEAN A WILLIAMS Assistant Sport Editor

Monday, April 26, 2010

JAMAICA'S Reggae Boyz are due to tackle South Africa in a hurriedly organised friendly international in Frankfurt, Germany, on Wednesday.

So tight is the schedule that Theodore Whitmore's players may have to play the game the very day they arrive in Europe as they are down to depart Jamaica Tuesday morning via Miami before landing a day later.

BURRELL... we are very happy to help out our South African brothers
BURRELL... we are very happy to help out our South African brothers 1/1

President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Captain Horace Burrell said the South Africans made the SOS call on Jamaica for the game as following the last-minute pull out of China.

"We are very happy to help out our South African brothers in this situation, we know it's a huge challenge in terms of the time we have to pull it all together, but coach Whitmore agreed that it would be a great opportunity to have this game and we just went for it," Burrell said yesterday.

The players, said Burrell, are due to visit the German Embassy this morning at 7:00 for a specially arranged session to process their Shengen visas which will allow them to land in the European country.

"We are very grateful to the German Embassy officials who have gone out of their way to facilitate us on such short notice. I would also like to thank the South African Embassy here, the minister of sport, the foreign affairs ministry and the South African Football Association in coming together to set things in motion," said the CONCACAF Executive Committee member yesterday.

Though no team has yet been made public, the squad is expected to be made up of mostly local-based players, though efforts were underway last night to get the release of Jamaica's Scandinavia-based players.

Jamaica, ranked 78th by FIFA and 88th-rated South Africa, have played each three times prior, with their last meeting being in November last year in Bloemfontein. That game, like all the other match-ups, ended in a draw.

Following that game on the soil of the World Cup hosts, the 'Bafana Bafana' coach Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parriera had criticised Jamaica's approach to the game, lambasting the visitors for their ultra-defensive style which resulted in a goalless draw.

As long as we make some $$$$.

I would recommend that they go directly to Germmany bypassing the UK.

The tricky part is getting the USA transit visas.

The funny part about the whole thing - What happens to the Chinese fans who have already paid for their tickets for the game? They will have the shock of their lives when they see these "JAMAICAN/CHINESE" players walking into the stadium in the "wrong" uniform.

Well both Ricardo Gardner and Omar Daley could play I guess. Omar Daley's season is over as he got a red card in his last match and obviously Gardner isn't getting a game at Bolton. This match will be used for developing young players though maybe so these guys might not be top choice. Its not exactly along trip to Germany (unless that ash cloud is still causing problems)

It is sheer madness. SAFA, South Africa's poorly run federation, messed up, and JA is helping them out of a bad situation. I gather that we will be paid well for this, because we are helping out in a pinch, so that is the reason that the Boyz are doing it. A team of mostly locals will not be paid much by the JFF, so they will keep most of the cash. I wonder how much will go into Burrell's pocket, because I am sure he is receiving a cut?

Parreira has been pissed off with the state of SAFA, and while he does not really want "this" game, he will take what he can get.

We should not be playing this game on such a short notice, not at full strength and no game preparation. This a act of desperation for funds but I hope the players respond positively and I hope the very best local players is selected for the exposure. It is unfortunate and a bit ignorant that someone would suggest Burrell is receiving a cut for the game to go ahead.

There is a VEEERRRRYYYY small chance that Ricardo Gardner, Omar Daley and Oneil Thompson may be available since their clubs do not have meaningful matches this weekend.

Hopefully, some of the players from Boys Town, Waterhouse, St. George's SC can get trials while in Germany.

the game is a bit organized in a rush , but if Burrell get
free plane tickets and 30000 USD , they can pay off the english private firm and only have the FA to worry about .

Carter, in the blogs around the Bafana, a number of letter writers are noting that there is some alleged under-the-table stuff going on. So while it is all hearsay, I would rule nothing out.

There is definately some "politricks" going on. Burrell just left a meeting with FIFA last week and South Africa is hosting the World Cup.

Distributor- Why don't you cut and paste the letters?

You guys on crack today! How can you take fan Blogs seriously and make accusations? What does going to FIFA recently have do with JA taking a last minute game? We need money and games but FIFA cannot force you to play. It is funny how statements are made and nothing to back it up.
