Immediate impact @ the start of the second half vs the Fire...After being subbed on @ the interval and creating the attack by playing the ball wide to Dero, O'brian made a quick burst into the area to bundle into the net the Canadian international's return ball...Real striker instinct, the yute a warm up Tappa!

White will get is chance my friends. I am not convinvce he will play for Canada. This is White first full season in the MLS and I am sure he wants to establish himself so he can make a move to Europe one day. The reggae boyz have enough players and can call him when the games are important. IE Brazil WC qualifying.

Obrian White has completed his first full year playing at Toronto FC since return from knee surgery. He is now fighting for a start spot with arrivals a Brazilian and a Spanish forward.

Let us hope, he will fight his way back into the starting XI and be ready for either the Digicel Cup or Gold Cup.

He is now on the bench, and Preki seems to see him strictly as a few-minutes-a-game sub. White has potential, but his game needs great development, especially his passing and tactical reading. The new players will give him good examples to learn from.

Hopefully he gets a few more minutes in CONCACAF Champions League matches where he can gain valuable senior international match experience.

He played about 60 minutes yesterday as TFC beat Motagua 1-0. He made some good runs, and set de Guzman with a lovely pass, but our Filipino Jamaican missed his chance.

White has potential, and I think that he will learn a lot under Preki. He is not yet ready for the Boyz, because he is behind other MLS players such as Cummings, but maybe next year.

I am just curious because I see these statements over and over again. Zaidie was "not ready".....neither was Tyrone Marshall........Ryan Johnson needed 4 years and some are still not satisfied. The jury is still out on Shavar Thomas after all these years........but even D-Cup and Manning Cup ballers SHOULD be invited. Where is the logic?

What qualifies or disqualifies one set of players from even being INVITED to the national set up?

Better yet, what does the following players have over O'Brian White? The only "qualifying" factor I can see is the physical location of the five listed below. First of all White may not be setting the Bush League on fire but......the rest are still trying to get into the Bush League.

(1) Navion Boyd.
(2) Kavin Bryan.
(3) Jason Johnson.
(4) Roland Dean.
(5) Devon Hodges.

They all need "developing" - so what makes one more worthy of a call up over the others?

Lincoln, he is barely playing for TFC at this moment. Yes, he has potential, but I have seen him play far more than you, and he has struggled a lot this year. Preki played him for a good portion of last night's game, because the team has a hectic schedule coming up, and he wanted to rest his preferred starters, Maicon and Mista; Mista is also not yet in full game shape, having only just come into the team. The depth chart in Toronto has White as fourth on the list of the out and out forwards, behind Chad Barrett and the other two.

White will eventually get his turn, but I would be surprised to see him called any time soon. However, I might be wrong, and Tappa and Burrell might have other ideas.

Do you even have any idea at what level of football the home based players are playing? Let me give you an idea......We are calling up players who are STRUGGLING to beat M-A-N-C-H-E-S-T-E- R HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!not Bolton Wanderers......When you have players being called up for the national team and you CANNOT seperate the Nationals from a P-R-E-S-E-A-S-O-N HIGH SCHOOL team......what else can you say?

Now let me ask you a a couple of questions....

(1) Would you use the same standards for Eric Vernan?
(2) When was the last time you saw Eric Vernan play?
(3) Eric Vernan rides the bench at Nybergsund IL.......
(4) He has not commanded a starting place...
(5) HAVE YOU EVER SEEN NYBERGSUND PLAY?

================================================================
(1) Mr. Kavin Bryan?
(2) Why does he deserve a call up based on your reasoning?
(3) He could not even break into the Notodden FK game day squad of 18
(4) Spend his almost entire season in the Notodden Reserves.
(5) Kavin Bran came back and walked right into the Jamaica squad.
(6) Mind you Fabian Taylor was out for the season with broken foot - he came right back and walked straight into the Nottoden starting line-up.......
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(1) We have Allan Ottey, Jason Johnson, Marvin Morgan and all these other schoolers who DESERVE a place at the table even though they are riding the bench at clubs like Village FC?
(2) Jason Johnson plays for Mile Gully........do I need to continue?

Granted, the more seasoned players were sitting down, but what makes the other 11 players left on the field any more qualified than O'Brian White (TFC) , De Roux (Montreal) , Francis (Columbus)etc?

For the record Manchester High is in preseason........

Whitmore keeps faith with young Boyz

BY LIVINGSTON SCOTT Observer staff reporter

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

DESPITE mounting scepticism about the local-based squad, national senior football coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore believes he is on track as the Reggae Boyz continued preparations for next month's friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.

The former national player came on as a substitute and played more than 70 minutes with the younger players of the national senior squad against Manchester High School in a practice game at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

However, before he entered the game it was very difficult to separate the teams based on their performance at that stage, which raised serious questions about the quality of the side.

But Whitmore insisted that the standard of his team is not an issue as most of the players used in the game were young players he was still looking at.

"There are three young players that you saw today that we'll be taking to Trinidad, so this was like a trial for the rest of players.

"It was just a little practise, scrimmage-like game... but if you notice, most of the seniors players that we'll be taking with us to Trinidad... were sitting down, so it was just for the younger players to really get a taste of things," he explained.

Despite looking a cut above everyone else, Whitmore said his presence on the field was mainly to give advice and motive his players.

"It was just to encourage and... really bring them up to date with what is happening on the field, because some of them have lost the fun out of the game and that's the most important thing," he stated.

Meanwhile, only one of the three players who were suspended recently for turning up late for training is now eligible for selection.

"The only player who is up for selection is Keammar Daley, but we still haven't heard anything from (Xavian) Virgo and we haven't heard anything from (Desmond) Breakenridge," Whitmore said.

The team has already played matches against St Thomas and St James Allstars and will continue their preparations against Trelawny this Sunday and Portland Allstars the following Saturday.

Whitmore says he is very pleased with how preparations are coming on presently and will be trimming his squad very soon.

"We will be taking 18 players to Trinidad and that will include about five overseas-based players," he said..

Lincoln, I am not talking about White in comparison to local JA ballers. I am talking about the depth of experienced forwards who are playing abroad, such as Cummings, Johnson, Richards, and so on. I am not even mentioning Fuller because I am thinking of the future team. The local youths who are being called are ones who only those who are resident in JA can claim to have seen with any regularity. And why mention them when you know that the main reason that they are there is because the overseas ballers are not available for the training camps?

I have seen De Roux play a number of times, and he is not top quality, which is why he remains below the MLS. He is a decent baller, but I would rank him below the aforementioned. As for Francis, he is also inexperienced, but I have barely seen him play, so I will reserve judgement.

White is gifted, but he needs seasoning at the club level. If JA ever gets their act together and sets up a good scouting system to observe some of these overseas players, it will be beneficial in helping to select the best talent. But, hell will freeze over before that happens. \:\(
