In my humble opinion, The Harder they come is perhaps the best movie that has been WHOLLY made in Jamaica....
I was reading some info on Perry Henzel the other day, and he said that there were three parts to the Movie, and they were already written and complete,,,the problem is that after the Movie was Made, the Jamaica Govt at the time fight dung the movie, and the finances got tied up with the fight...the whole thing bankrupted Perry, and run wey the investment fi the other 2 parts...by the time the movie was released, Jimmy Clif, Perry Henzell, and the career and the Local Movie industry inna Jamaica got stifle.....it wasn't till the sountrack started to introduce the film overseas a good 4-5 years later when non- Jamaican audiences(most of whom did not even understand or relate to the circumstances in the plot of the movie) began to rate it as as a great piece of work, that people in Jamaica began to see the movie as such!!!
According to Perry Henzell, the other two parts to the Movie are more powerful than the first, and the story is not complete without it being told...I think he went to his grave trying to get them financed/completed. Correct me if im wrong but the time of his death i believe he was still working on the scond part...but is a shame how we Jamaicans are: we don't know or acknowledge or appreciate or utilize what we have until another man from another land come tek it and enslave us all,, then we begin bawl,,,but a who fault?????
Anyway, if them can get the Harder they come 2,, I know sey it would be a blessing fi tell the tru story bout ghetto youts livity in Jamaica!!!Hopefully a Jamaican can have the faith, finances and fortitude fi finally finish the FLIM!!!
