Miller making his mark in Sweden

National goalkeeper DwayneMiller is of the view that Jamaican footballers can make a career in Sweden once they demonstrate the right attitude.
The soon-to-be 23-year-old Miller, who earlier this year inked a two-year deal with Swedish Second Division club Syruanksa FC, is currently the only Jam-aican playing in that country and would love to see more of his countrymen. The Swedes, he said, have a high regard for the ability of Jamaicans but they would have to make adjustments in order to succeed.
our athleticism
"They like our athleticism, which is good, but our approach has to be different," said Miller, who was recently home for a few days.
"Football in Sweden is different. It is a different style but they are very organised. They encourage a lot of team play, no individual flair, which our players love. What they ask you to do, they want you to do that constantly.
"I think Jamaican outfield players would do well there if they go with the right mentality and commit themselves," added the player who was introduced to goalkeeping at Seaforth High School in St Thomas before moving on to York FC in that parish, Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View.
Of his new experience in Sweden, Miller said things have been going great on and off the field.
hamstring injury
"Things are great. I am coming off a hamstring injury which kept me out of seven games at the start of the season. I am healthy now and have played the last three games," explained Miller, who is the first-string keeper at the club.
"One of those three games that I played was a cup game against Malmo FC in the Swedish top division. We lost 0-1 to them three minutes away from the penalty shoot-out," he added.
While he is the only player from the Caribbean, Miller said he is comfortable in the squad which has players from Nigeria, Congo, Bosnia and Serbia. The fact that most of the people speak English, he said, makes it easy for him to communicate.
The treatment of the fans, even while he was injured, has helped to make his stay even more pleasant

REGGAE Boyz's number two shot-stopper Dwayne Miller is expecting to start in goal when Jamaica host Costa Rica in an International Friendly at the National Stadium this evening.
The former 23-year-old Harbour View goalkeeper who now plies his trade at Swedish club Syrianska FC, has fully recovered from a hamstring injury and is eager to build on his confidence.
MILLER... I just want to put it all out in the game on Sunday [Hide Description] MILLER... I just want to put it all out in the game on Sunday [Restore Description] 1/1
"Right now I'm in good condition, so I just want to put it all out in the game on Sunday (today)," Miller, a likely starter in the absence of Donovan Ricketts, told the Sunday Observer on Friday after a scheduled training session at the National Stadium.
"I have now recovered from my injury and have been playing; and things are good so far. I just want to continue for the rest of the season in this game and also Tuesday (against Peru).
"It's just a part of the game and I just have to move on and learn from this experience.
"Any sort of injury is a setback, but I have gotten over that and looking forward to the games," said Miller, who was forced out of action for four weeks, missing seven club games in the process.
Miller is also looking forward to keeping a clean against the Costa Ricans, who are ranked 29 places below the Jamaicans on the FIFA list.
And with additional support in anticipation from supporters who are expected to be at 'The Office' in their thousands, Miller believes the prospects look good.
"It's always a good feeling to be back home," he said. "So we just want the fans to come out and support us and be the 12th man in the stand, and with that, I feel anything is possible."
Meantime, the young custodian from St Thomas has been in Sweden for seven months and is hoping his budding career will blossom and bear fruit in the near future.
"Well, as you know for any young footballer their dream is to play at the high level possible and also in the World Cup. Sunday is a part of that journey for me and hopefully we can give a good performance.. and come out victorious," he said.
He was, however, coy when asked about interest in him from other top European clubs since his arrival in Sweden, stating that: "My agent said things are looking good, but he just wants to me to concentrate on Syrianska."
Miller said he returns to Sweden on Thursday after the Reggae Boyz play the Peruvians on Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale, USA.

A double victory today for Miller. He kept a clean sheet for Jamaica in a 1-0 win over Costa Rica. Also his club team Syrianska FC won an important match and are now in 2nd place in the Superettan, which would insure automatic promotion.
I remember I asked a question a while back as to why Miller was still keeping goal for Harbourview, even though he was injured? ........ Well, the man went to Sweden and the Syrianska coaching staff did not play him until he was healthy..........Miller has been gone for about seven months now......I guess no one has been in goal for Harbourview?

This one looks favorable to syrianska , it's likely IFK Norrkoping will lose another game . Looking at the standings Norrkoping had 8 defeats to syrianska 6 .

0-0 draw versus Hammarby....now in 2nd place, 2pts. out with 2 matches remaining
Seems he's doing a good job in Goal. I could be wrong but up to a few yrs ago wasn't Richard McCallum the #2 Keeper and Miller was behind him. I think McCallum had an Injury and was out for Min..
I Think both McCallum and Miller are quicker thinkers than Ricketts a and hence better in their Ball distribution especialy fast breaks. When its all said and done Miller just might be better than Ricketts. just think he's better at the age of 23 than Rickets was at same age. Come WCQ he should be pushing Ricketts for the starting job.

Hello!
Donovan Ricketts is the best Goalie Jamaica have . Goal Keepers Age Longer , and the best era for a keeper is in their Mid 30s i.e age 33-37 . Peter Shilton was 40 years old when he kept for England in the 1990 world cup and they made the semis only to be knock out on Penalties I can give other examples too but I wont go there .
Donovan Ricketts still have Years In him

Miller is in a golden position in Sweden. The team is in second place entering the last round two points away from the title.
Syrianska faces already relegated Vasby.
While number 1 face number 3 in the last match with an automatic promotion spot at stake.
While that is a golden position to win the league and a great shot at promotion, this team still really need to come out strong and focus on winning because they could still lose their automatic promotion spot. If they lose and Sundsvall beat Norrköping, Sundsvall will move into the 2nd and final automatic promotion spot on goal difference. So the boys need to come out focus on winning regardless of who they are playing. A knock out from automatic promotion by losing to the worst team in the league would be hard to recover from to play in the promotion playoff. All in all, sights should be on being promoted, not winning the league (Although that'd be cool too). A draw will get that done, but you gotta play for the win.

Miller started as the second choice in the season beginning of Superettan 2010. The team where said to be an outsider for promotion and they succeeded by winning the league and gaining promotion to the Swedish topflight of Allsvenskan. Syrianska had a quite a bad start, with lots of conceded goals. In the first 12 games, they conceded 20 goals. Around that time, Miller was set to be the first choice. In the following 18 games, Syrianska only lost one game, and only conceded 7 goals - with 9 clean sheets in the last 11 games. Miller had a huge impact in the teams preformances and ended up the season with 21 games as a starter, conceding 14 goals, with 13 clean sheets and a saving percentage of 82 %, which was the best of all goalkeepers in the league.

Marvellous Miller... Reggae Boyz keeper attracts German clubs, wins award in Sweden
Andre Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter
Dwayne Miller - file
Twenty-three-year-old Reggae Boyz goalkeeper Dwayne Miller is making a lot of noise in Europe these days after recently gloving the best goalkeeper award in Sweden's second highest league, and attracting the attention of a number of unnamed German Bundesliga clubs, according to his agent Romel Wallen.
Wallen, whose Pro-Goals Sports Management agency secured a two-year deal for the former Harbour View net-minder in March of this year, told Star Sports in an exclusive interview that he has already been contacted by some of Germany's best clubs and believes that there is a solid chance that his client will make the switch pretty soon.
Miller, who was signed after he played through injury in Jamaica's 2-1 defeat to Argentina, started 21 of Syrianska's 30 league games and impressed consistently, helping his team to 14 clean sheets and conceding only 13 goals.
A return that has seen him rise in meteoric fashion from a hopeful tryout to one of the best goalkeepers in the Scandinavian nation.
"He went to this club on a free transfer and has now improved his value immensely," said Wallen. "In eight months, he has become the number-one ranked goalkeeper in the Swedish second Division and is now being tracked in Germany. Obviously, I don't want to call any names yet but there are a couple Bundesliga clubs tracking him."
"To be honest it's still quite early but several agents and clubs have been calling me and asking about his availability. I told them that I wanted to wait until his final game of the season before we started talking about anything but it is quite likely that something solid will come out of this," he added.
youngest Jamaican
While obviously looking out for the best interest of his client, Wallen was quick to underline the gratitude towards the Swedish club, who took a chance on the youngster, who became the youngest Jamaican custodian to play in Europe, signing on the dotted line just three months before his 23rd birthday.
"We are definitely keen in showing our appreciation to Syrianska for taking a chance on him in any event because as you know it's unprecedented because no Jamaican goalkeeper has gone to Europe so early in their career. So this was also a risk on their part and it obviously paid off," Wallen said. "He has one year left on his deal but we are keeping our options open because of the interest that he is attracting."
In any event, the agent believes that the St Thomas native, who is already guaranteed a bumper wage increase as per the terms of his current deal with the Swedish outfit, is in a great position to further advance his career.
"He is in an excellent position in terms of bargaining and that's all down to what he has done on the field," said Wallen.
