Whitmore said the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is the ultimate goal of the programme and getting youngsters involved from early can help the cause.
"We will use them... as long as they can come and show what they can," he said.
The inclusion of these young players, Whitmore said, could serve as a motivation for other young players looking to get inside the national set-up.
See it deh. .....and also send a message to the "elders" that they are not indispensible. After the Gold Cup Kaka garbage where people like Bibi and Fuller spent more time partying than training, Tappa should also emphasize that a national cap is NOT A RIGHT - BUT A PRIVILEGE!!!

With players like Rudi Austin, Eric Vernan, Demar Phillips, Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Dane Richards, Omar Daley, Damion Stewart, Jermaine Johnson etc still in the player pool mix - this a good look.
================================================================ This definitely a step in the right direction. If the "elder statesmen" like Bibi, Fuller, Pepe , Claude, Ricketts and company are around when WC qualifying starts in 2012 then by all means include them. Right now the priority should be the younger/inexperienced players.

Reggae Boyz Begin Camp Monday January 11, 2009
January 9th, 2010
Six schoolboys were rewarded for their excellent form throughout the recently ended schoolboy football season with an invitation to camp with the Reggae Boyz squad from Monday January 11 to Thursday January 14. They were named in a group of 28 to begin preparation for a friendly international against Canada at the National Stadium on January 31.
The six include forwards Allan Ottey (St James High), Christopher Waugh (Wolmer’s Boys) and midfielders Ricardo Morris of St James High and Romena Bowie of Manchester High. Jamaica’s Under-20 goalkeeper Andre Blake and Marvin Morgan who played an instrumental role in St George’s College’s retention of the Manning and Olivier Shield double were also included.
When the new boys get into camp they will rub shoulders with more experienced and seasoned campaigners who ply their trade overseas as well as in the local Digicel Premier League. Among these seasoned professionals are the United States-based duo of defender Shavar Thomas and Omar Cummings as well as the Hungary-based Jason Morrison and Rafe Wolfe. Luton Shelton who plays for Valerenga in Norway is also involved in the camp as is defender Demar Stewart who plays for Chengdu Blades in China.
The stars of the DPL also feature prominently in the squad with the competition’s leading scorer Devon Hodges (13 goals), Tivoli Gardens spearhead Navion Boyd and rising midfield star Kenardo Forbes, the man credited as a major driving force behind current second round leaders Waterhouse’s fantastic run earning spots. Jermaine Taylor of St George’s, Dicoy Williams and Adrian Reid who have been growing in their roles are retained in the squad.
“As we have said before it is the performance of players that will determine whether or not they are invited to the squad. The fact that these players are invited is only the beginning as they will all have to perform very well to keep their places as this is only the first camp of the year and the first one before the Canada game,” head coach of the national team Theodore Whitmore explained.
“Looking at this squad one could say that there are a number of other players that could be involved and that could be true for a number of reasons. Yes some players are not available because of club commitments while the difference between some in the squad and others is marginal. Once they remain consistent their chance will come and besides there are plans to look at others,” he added.
Jamaica’s friendly international against Canada will kicks off at 6:00pm and will cost patrons $3,000.00 for Grandstand Category 1, $2,500.00 for Grandstand Category 2 and $1,000.00 for Bleachers.
Full squad :
Goalkeepers Dwayne Miller (Harbour View), Duwayne Kerr (Portmore United), Andre Blake (Glenmuir High, Sporting Central);
Defenders- Jermaine Taylor St Georges SC), Shavar Thomas (Philadelphia Union), Dicoy Williams (Harbour View), Demar Stewart (Chengdu Blades) Adrian Reid (Portmore United), Linval Lewis (Sporting Central), Rafe Wolfe (Ferencvaros);
Midfielders – Jason Morrison (Ferencvaros), Richard Edwards (Harbour View), Nicholi Findlayson (Waterhouse), Je-Vaughn Watson (Sporting Central), Kenardo Forbes (Waterhouse), Lovel Palmer (Harbour View), Keammar Daley (Tivoli Gardens), Andre Steele (Harbour View), Bowie (Manchester High, Mike Gully FC), Morgan (St George’s College), Morris (St James High, Village United);
Forwards – Omar Cummings (Colorado Rapids), Luton Shelton (Valerenga, NORWAY), Devon Hodges (Rivoli United), Navion Boyd (Tivoli Gardens), Waugh (Wolmer’s Boys), Ottey (St James High and Village United) and Peter Keyes (Boy’s Town).

The part I like about this squad.....“As we have said before it is the performance of players that will determine whether or not they are invited to the squad. The fact that these players are invited is only the beginning as they will all have to perform very well to keep their places as this is only the first camp of the year and the first one before the Canada game,” head coach of the national team Theodore Whitmore explained.
JAMAICA VS ARGENTINA will also be a challenge in getting "big" name players.
Quote:
Wednesday, February 10, is not a FIFA-sanctioned date, which means that both Jamaica and Argentina may not have the services of their top European stars as clubs are reluctant to release their players outside the official FIFA calendar.

CSA Announces MNT Roster for Jamaica Friendly January 14, 2010
Canada’s men’s national soccer team announced its roster today for the upcoming camp in USA and Jamaica. The camp runs 18 January through 1 February and includes the international friendly match against Jamaica on 31 January. Coach Stephen Hart has selected 17 players for this first camp of the 2010 season.
“We brought in many young players for a number of reasons,” said head coach Stephen Hart. “We want them to experience an international senior camp and become familiar with our methods. We also want to observe them in an international match.”
Canada’s lineup features players whose clubs are currently on a winter break. A number of players were not available for selection because of ongoing club seasons in Europe as well as winter tournaments during the break. Canada is expected to add another goalkeeper to its lineup before the start of camp.
Of those 17 players selected, six of them come from Canadian clubs – five from Toronto FC of MLS and one from the Impact de Montréal of the newly-formed USSF-2 NASL division. Beyond the 11 players on North American clubs, there are five players from European clubs and one player from a South American club.
Of note, four players have received their first call to the full national team: goalkeeper David Monsalve of FC Inter Turku, defender Nana Attakora of Toronto FC, midfielder Carlo Rivas of Club Deportivo Universidad de Concepción, and midfielder Massih Wassey of FC Schalke 04 II. Canada’s national team will be in Ft. Lauderdale, FL from 18-29 January and then in Kingston from 29 January to 1 February. Coach Hart hopes to see as many players as possible in the 31 January match against Jamaica.
“Jamaica at home is very strong, as it demonstrated two years ago in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers,” said coach Hart. “The opportunity to view our players in such a match is ideal.”
In 2008, Jamaica won all three of its home matches in the semi-final stage of FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers, including a 3:0 win over Canada. Like Canada, Jamaica did not advance beyond the so-called CONCACAF “Group of Death”. In 2009, Canada and Jamaica again faced each other as group opponents, this time at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in Carson, CA. Canada won that match 1:0 on a goal by Ali Gerba. This time, Canada advanced to the quarter-final stage while Jamaica failed to advance beyond the group phase. CANADA

The Reggae Boyz ended their four-day camp in preparation for their International Friendly against Canada with a 3-2 defeat of Digicel Premier League (DPL) club, Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Stadium on Thursday morning.
Tivoli Gardens took the lead through Dane Kelly and extended it when Horace Sharpe converted a penalty to give the DPL champions a 2-0 half time lead.
But the DPL’s leading striker Devon Hodges, Navion Boyd and schoolboy Marvin Morgan struck in the second half to give the Boyz victory.
The Boyz will return to camp on Monday January 18 to begin final preparation for the game against Canada at the National Stadium on January 31. They will also play two-time World Cup champions Argentina in Argentina on February 10.
