I just did some thinking and perhaps, it is better to call up at least 28 players to camp in early January, so this would allow for at least two intrasquad matches, then Tappa could select the best 18 that fits the system for the Canada match. Since cost is a big factor, players who are in Jamaica during January would receive preference.

Reggae Boyz will provide 'good test' - Canada's coach relishes opportunity to look at youngsters in Jamaica match

OTTAWA, Canada (CMC):
Canada's coach Stephen Hart has welcomed next month's friendly football international against Jamaica's Reggae Boyz, describing the away fixture as a good 'test' for his side.
After a two-week camp in Florida, Canada will tackle Jamaica at the National Stadium in Kingston on January 31 in the first international for Hart since being confirmed earlier this month as Canada's head coach.
"This camp provides me with the ideal opportunity to see some of our players that are on the winter break from their club season," Hart said.
"We will also be provided with a good international test as Jamaica has proved to be a formidable opponent within CONCACAF in recent years," added Hart, who had previously functioned as interim coach.
Preparing for month-end match
The Canadian squad will meet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in mid-January to prepare for the month-end match and Hart will draw mostly on players whose teams are on a winter break, including those players in North America and northern Europe.
Canada beat Jamaica 1-0 in their most recent meeting at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the USA, but the Reggae Boyz had beaten them 3-0 on their last trip to Kingston for a World Cup qualifier in November 2008.
Both teams consider the friendly early preparation for CONCACAF qualifying to the 2014 World Cup Finals in Brazil.
The Jamaicans are currently ranked 81st on FIFA's world list and Canada are 56th.

$4 million for Reggae Boyz camp
Andre Lowe, Senior Staff Reporter
JFF general secretary Horace Reid. - File
It may cost the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) as much as $4 million to stage their 30-day training camp ahead of the January 31 friendly international against Canada inside the National Stadium. However, JFF general secretary Horace Reid has defended the need to stage the camp.
The match is deemed to be an extremely important encounter by the Captain Horace Burrell-led administration, in light of the team's recent plunge in the FIFA rankings, slipping seven places to number 81 in the world.
The present position would prevent players who wish to ply their trade in the UK from obtaining a work permit from the British Home Office and will also affect the team's appeal to international opponents.
importance of match
Reid confirmed the figures while underlining the importance of the match. He also added that the administration is looking to take advantage of the fact that a number of the island's top players, particularly those based in Scandinavian and the USA, are already in the island.
Said Reid, "If we stage a camp weekly and depending on the facilities that we use, it can run us up to a million dollars per week."
"We have to recognise that it is important for us to keep improving on our ranking because players who are currently plying their trade here and those who are playing overseas and have ambitions to play in the UK will need to satisfy certain conditions. One of the conditions would be the ranking of the country that the players are tied to, so we are always looking to improve on that," said Reid.
"We do have a number of our players who play in the MLS and Scandinavian countries in the island, so it was a matter of trying to take advantage of the presence of these players. If they are going to play in the international game against Canada, then they need to be in some kind of shape," Reid continued. "The intention is to get them into a camp and improve the fitness level of the players and also give the coach a chance to assess them."
Reid is in the meantime welcoming the number 56 ranked Canadians and was quick to point out that the Federation is keen to improve on their ranking as they look to secure other top games for the team.
understandable
"A part of the challenge is that the countries that are at the top of the ranking and are better placed are not necessarily keen on playing those teams that are at the bottom of the ranking and that is understandable," said Reid.
"However, we have to keep looking for opportunities and keep playing whenever we get a chance and we are happy that we are going to kick off the new year with Canada. They are much better ranked team than we are, so that is good for us."

I would love to see him selected in jamaica squad , but this is one of the few reasons am going to take up new interest over the net like , 2012 chat room ...little or no attention is given to this site by JFF coaching staff and administration , mi si man like lincoln with some good scouting on our younger players and no one cares

Jamaican youth.. weren't you just on stoke's oatcake forum talking crap about how fuller was the first player to score a bicycle shot for jamaica? IF that is the limit of your knowledge please do us a favour and stfu.
Seriously spouting such crap about jamaican football on another forum shows not only a lack of knowledge but a sense of ignorance on your part. (end of rant)
On another note: Whitmore has nothing to lose and should field a mixed team of youngsters (that is under 23) as well as a few (stressing this word) experienced players to steady the ship.
Jamaica's football has really gone as far as it can imho under the captain if all we can look forward to is a friendly against canada. -__-

Schoolboys invited to Reggae Boyz training Published: Saturday | January 9, 2010

From left: Wolmer's Waugh, St James' Ottey and St George's Morgan
When Jamaica's training squad for the upcoming friendly against Canada on January 31 convenes, it will comprise five of the youngsters who participated in the recently concluded schoolboy football season.
The five are St James High's Ricardo Morris and Allan Ottey, Manchester High's Romaine Bowie, St George's College midfielder Marvin Morgan, and Christopher Waugh of Wolmer's High.
National head coach, Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, says this is all part of the rebuilding process.
"We are rebuilding for the 2014 (World Cup) and these players, along with a lot more, will be rotated in the three camps that will be held leading up the game (international friendly against Canada)," Whitmore said.
"What you find (is that) after the players finish playing daCosta Cup and Manning Cup most of them stop, so you want to assure them that we still consider them to be part of the programme.
"We have an under-23 tournament coming up soon, so we just want to bring them in so they can get a feeling of the programme and, hopefully, they come and show that they want to be part of it and bring something to the table. You never know, one or two of them might be included in the game coming up on the 31st," he added.
Whitmore believes the youngsters selected were outstanding in the schoolboy season and the Jamaica Football Federation wants them to know that their performance has not gone unnoticed.
He added: "We want to really reward them and, hopefully, they can come and reward us as well. It is a long-term thing and they are young and doing well at the schoolboy level so we just want the transformation.
"We are using these training camps to get in some games where they can gel and they can understand what the national programme is all about. The schoolboy football competition and the national programme are two different things, so you have to make them get accustomed. If they come and they work their way to the top, you can't knock them for that; you have to give them their chance."
overseas-based players
The six overseas-based players who are currently in the island will also be part of the camp. These players are Shavar Thomas, Omar Cummings, Luton Shelton, Rafe Wolfe, Jason Morrison and Demar Stewart.
The camp will run from the January 11-15 before breaking for the weekend. It resumes between January 18-21, before reconvening in the run-up to the game

Everyone thinks Tappa is a "good boy" or Horace Burrell's puppet? Guess what?... Burrell is afraid to give him the green light. .......Just one week end with Tegat Davis and Tappa start showing his true colours - Mr. Independent. Anyway, Tappa and Tegat are disciples of the real rebel - Steve "Gabby" Bucknor.
