I would not mind seeing Stephen De Roux called into camp. He played his part in Montreal Impact winning the USL Championship. He could also free up Demar Phillips at left back.
"I am looking forward to a very active year so we can test and evaluate the players who we believe could be part of the 2014 World Cup campaign. It is important that we start early, as we all remember what happened the last time. Now we cannot afford to be left behind," Theodore Whitmore, head coach of the national team, said in the release.
I hope Burrell allows him to do his job.....

When did professional experience become a requirement for Jamaica's national team? When did a player have to play X number of caps to qualify for any national team in the world?
Well I guess Tappa can remove that new striker Powell (Tivoli Gardens FC) from his list - he is sooooooooooooooooooo disqualified. On that note does former professionals like Teofore Bennett at Village qualify? He is no longer a "professional" player.
Why cherry pick only a part of the man's commnet? I dont think is sayin only professional players should be picked or picked based on the number of games. To me the most important part of his comment is that these players were average last year - taken at face value, then the players may not deserve a call up for this game as there are limited spots available. From the list mentioned, I say lets cap White, for obvious reasons. As for the rest, I have no problems with any being included and even starting next month as I understand the games purpose. Having said that, certain players of a certain age and numerous professional games this season should be left off the squad - I am just saying, thats all.

Canada test for Boyz
Published: Sunday | December 20, 2009
The Reggae Boyz will play an international on home soil for the first time in seven months when they meet CONCACAF rivals Canada at the National Stadium on Sunday, January 31.
According to a release from the Jamaica Football Federation, the game will serve as the launch of the country's 2014 World Cup campaign.
The Reggae Boyz who, like their opponents, are still smarting from their failure to qualify for the historic 2010 World Cup in South Africa, are eager to put on a treat for the local fans, who have not seen them up close for over half a year.
"For this game and the others to follow we will be looking to have the strongest possible group of players available to us," added Whitmore, who was in charge the last time the Reggae Boyz played Canada on local soil. Then the Reggae Boyz thumped Canada 3-0 but came up short on goal difference.
Expected to be involved in the Jamaican squad for this fixture are United States-based professionals such as Donovan Ricketts, Shavar Thomas, Dane Richards and Omar Cummings, as well as those who ply their trade in Scandinavia. Rodolph Austin, Khari Stephen-son, Demar Phillips, Jason Morrison, Rafe Wolfe, Eric Vernan, Luton Shelton and Adrian Reid are already in the country and should be available for selection. Local-based players such as Devon Hodges, Keammar Daley, Jermaine Taylor, Dicoy Williams, Richard Edwards and Navion Boyd could also feature.
Canada, who recently con-firmed the Trinidad-born Stephen Hart as head coach following their creditable run in the Gold Cup, which included a 1-0 win over Jamaica, are expected to field a strong squad as well. Prior to the game they will have a two-week camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before flying into Jamaica on January 29.
Whitmore, whose Boyz had 10 international matches in 2009, will also have the Boyz in a training camp starting in early January.

Boss let us be clear about something - No coach in the world can pick a squad that satisfies everyone. When Whitmore calls up a squad he has already made of his mind on 75% of the final squad. Anyway let me try to explain this another way. Jamatal was trying to apply a kind of standard to the selection process which would disqualify half the Jamaican based players/players playing in the DPL. You can ask anyone in Jamaican coaching circles and they will tell you that. The performance is way below par.
P.S. - There are "influential" people in Jamaica's football circles who are trying to make a case for Jerry Hue's return. You may or may not believe this but there are folks asking for Kevin "the king" Lamey, because we have no forwards. Go figure.
Now when you consider that Whitmore will call up about 24 players, half of whom will be just there for the coach to look at (practice squad) - why are we stuck on the same "supporting crew?" The "supporting crew" - these are players on the bubble who are there to make a case to Tappa Whitmore as to why they should make the match day squad. Why do we still call up players who WHitmore & company have seen over , and over, and over, and over, and who have ZERO chance of even making a match day squad of 24? We have approximately 20-24 months to get this thing right so why are we wasting the time re-calling people who the coaching staff have seen, again and again - while ignoring others again and again. No one is asking for any player to be placed in the starting line up but please give the players a chance to come to camp and show what they have before we show them the door.
Since some of the call ups are just there for the coaching staff to run the rule over why not give someone else a chance to come in and wear the practice squad bibs? Let me even make it easier for you - The following regular invitees need to be switched out:
the jff should disband themselves if they don't call up any and most of these players... what more do white, priestley, bernard, adams, ryan johnson, ryan thompson have to do to get a cap
What have the majority here done to deserve a cap?
Jamtl, i agee with u 100%. Futher more dont see Priestly as a Playmaker. He's more of a dribbler from waht i've seen of him last 4 yrs at Uconn. Still think we're in trouble for wc 2014 if we have to rely soley on J.Hue as Playmaker.

I am a bit disappointed in the progress of Evan Taylor. He went from playing in the DPL to the PDL in Canada and now down to the Western Super League, which definately does not help his senior national chances.

1. I was just trying to understand the statement.
2. Guys like Taylor is being allowed to fall through the cracks while we try to find the fountain of youth for players like Jerry Hue under the guise of "having the best team available" campaign. What Burrell and others fail to understand is that these games are only for the 10 - 15 thousand die hard fans who will show up even in a hurricane. This is not for the other 25 thousand wagonists who only show up for Hexagon games. Anyway you dice it, Jamaica will be playing against an "experimental" team - so why stifle these upcoming players?

All I am trying to say is that we have less than 24 months to get the wheels back on this wagon and we now have a very good opportunity to look at some player who we have not seen in a while/or have never seen:
1a. We have a good opponent in Canada.
1b. The players from the MLS, USL, Norway, China, Hungary etc are on a break, most are already on vacation in Jamaica.
1c. The cost to the JFF of flying players home to Jamaica for the Canada camp in January has been reduced. So why not take advantage? (Cost savings)
2a.There is no club Vs country fight going on - even though the game is January.
2b. The only English based players who might be available are Bigga Thompson(Barnsley) who might be out of favor at the club and Omar Daley (Bradford)who is on the mend.
3. Many people are so bent out of shape with their emotional blinders on that they cannot see an opportunity slapping them in the face. We may not have this opportunity again for a very, very long time. -----------------------------------------------------------------
Let me simplify this even further for the hard headed folks:
Maybe Whitmore needs to call in some of these guys for his next friendly VS SEBA UNITED or CLARENDON ALL STARS- if you notice I did not say Canada.......so calm down.
The same criteria that was used to invite the following players should be used for foreign based players:
Andre Darby Linval Lewis Fabian Gordon Lovel Palmer Andre Steele Navian Boyd Tyrone Sawyers Kadian Wynter Richard Edwards Evan Taylor Damion Harwood Peter Keyes Etc, Etc...
GIVE THE PLAYERS A CHANCE TO FAIL BEFORE WE SHOW THEM THE DOOR.
Quote:
Reggae Boyz thrash Seba All-Stars 3-1 In preparation for their big international friendly against South Africa next month in that country, the Reggae Boyz on Wednesday defeated the Seba All-Stars 3-1 in a practice game at Jarrett Park.
Striker Navian Boyd scored a double in the 18th and 28th minutes while Damion Harewood notched the third in the 32nd minute. Nicholas Barnes pulled one back for the Seba All-Stars in the 90th minute.
Reggae Boyz Starting XI: Dwayne Miller (Ralston Robinson 51st), Jermaine Taylor (Capt), Dicoy Williams (Andre Darby 46th), Linval Lewis (Fabian Gordon 51st), Lovel Palmer (Andre Steele 51st), Navian Boyd, Tyrone Sawyers (Kadian Wynter 46th), Richard Edwards (Evan Taylor 46th), Keammar Daley (Je-Vaughn Watson 46th), Damion Harwood (Alanzo Adlam 51st) and Devon Hodges (Peter Keyes 46th).
*This game was one of the preparation games for the Reggaeboyz prior to the South Africa game. Can we do some substitutions with some of these names now that we have all these players home in Jamaica on holidays or sitting at home in the USA?
Why are we wasting the opportunity?
** For those among us who are so scared that the Boyz will slide in the FIFA rankings, I have news for you....we will-even if we win the game. There are countries ranked behind Jamaica that will be involved in the African Championships. Continental Championships points carry more weight than friendlies........so we might as well get the best bang for our buck.

What do u guys think about Sylvan Ebanks-Blake ? he looks like a quality player. He is a proven goalscorer.
Since he has come into the Premier League in the 13 games he has played he has scored in 1 but wat I have learnt in the world of football is that you are going to have a goal drought once in a while.
Goals are like buses, on most ocassions they come one after the next, sometimes it takes a long time to come. So his goal drought will be over soon

Tell him go get his Jamaican passport, then call us back.
He was a good goalscorer in the league championship.
Is Tyrone Marshall done with international football ?
He has had a great career with the REaggae Boyz. Not only has he been a general in defense but he has scored cracking goals like the one vs Trinidad in 2001 at the office, that was a rocket
Équipe nationale masculine senior 22 December 2009 Canadian men to open 2010 season against Jamaica
Will Johnson Photo: Tony Quinn The Canadian Soccer Association has confirmed its men's national team will open its 2010 season with an international friendly match against CONCACAF opponent Jamaica. Canadian head coach Stephen Hart will take the national team to Kingston, Jamaica for the friendly date on 31 January at the National Soccer Stadium.
"This camp provides me with the ideal opportunity to see some of our players that are on the winter break from their club season," said Canadian head coach Stephen Hart. "We will also be provided with a good international test as Jamaica has proved to be a formidable opponent within CONCACAF in recent years."
The Canadian team will meet in Fort Lauderdale, FL on 18 January to prepare for the 31 January match. Head coach Hart will draw mostly on players whose teams are on a winter break, including those players in North America and northern Europe.
Canada and Jamaica are familiar foes that have faced each other five times since 2006. The two sides most recently faced each other in Carson, CA for the opening match of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, a 1:0 Canada win en route to a quarter-final finish in the biennial confederation championship.
In 2008, the two sides faced each other in the CONCACAF semi-final stage, a group of death" that eliminated both Canada and Jamaica. Both sides are now forging forward on the road to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil under the direction of new head coaches.
Canada has always found Jamaica a tough place to play. Canada's away record in Jamaica is one win, three draws and three losses in seven matches played, including an 0:3 loss on 19 November 2008. Canada still holds the all time head-to-head advantage with a record of seven wins, six draws, and three losses against Jamaica.
Canada is hoping for a successful 2010 season. Of note, Canada plans two home matches in early September, with venues and opponents to be named at a later date.
